Although I haven't worn my Firetail GTX's yet I love the style and the weight and the ability to change out the souls fit. They are exactly what I was expecting and I'm looking forward to my first adventure in them. I'm not a major mountain hiker, just someone who loves to go with friends and go 8-12 miles when I can. I do love some mild hands on rock climbing as well. I read lots of reviews before I purchased these so I'm hoping they will go the distance with me.

These shoes were to be my approach shoes climbing steep rocky trails to the crag in Colorado. I previously owned a scarpa boulder x that worked well but were not as grippy as these vibram soled shoes. Also, they were not waterproof and I needed shoes that didn't get soaked while walking is snow, mud and little streams of water. I usually wear a size 7-7.5 street shoe but ordered these snug (like my climbing shoes) at 6.5 for steep approaches that require a more secure, less sloppy footing. I saw a deal on amazon and decided I should go for it since I already know my size and like the shoes anyway. Ordered it and over 2 weeks have passed and no shoes arrived in the mail--apparently the courrier delivered it to the wrong address! Amazon was nice enough to offer to replace and refund the item but I couldn't wait another 2 weeks so I just opted to refund and buy them at the local Bentgate. Good job handling it amazon, boohooo on the carrier! Mind you, this has happened to me 3 times already but amazon handles it graciously enough that I come back to give them my business. Good shoes and good job amazon.

I searched for a waterproof shoe that I could wear for mostly day hiking and found the Salewa Firetail's. After much research and reading other reviews, I bought a pair of them and I LOVE them! I didn't want an "oversized bulky hiking boot" and these are sleek and have just the right amount of room with medium weight socks on. (I would say I have an 'average size foot') They seem to be true to size (I ordered the same size I wear in Asics running shoes). I love the eye catching color and I get plenty of compliments from other hikers on the trail about them! They provide great traction on hard surfaces and kept my feet dry when going through patches of slushy snow and water. I've never owned a Salewa shoe before but I would highly recommend these. They were wicked comfortable right out of the box ... a keeper for sure!

After extensive online research, I chose this shoe for an upcoming Kilimanjaro climb. Tried it out first on a treadmill and found it very stiff and uncomfortable. Since I had never owned a pair of Salewa's I thought they just needed breaking in. I tried various sock thicknesses as well as adjusting the inserts with no significant improvement. After an 18 mile hike which ended with aching feet and a couple of blisters (so much for their blister free claim)I took them off and haven't had them on again. I wear a size 6 medium width. Would not recommend. Pros: Shoe is well constructed and I like the ability to adjust laces close to the toe.

These are really stiff shoes so I'm still trying to break them in 3 months later. They grip rock great, but I wish I could tighten the laces more. By the end of a 8 hour hike, my feet have a lot of wiggle room, which is pretty uncomfortable. I probabaly should have returned them asap to get a 1/2 smaller.

Normally I wear size 8 in my sneakers, 7.5 in dress/casual shoes. Ordered the 8 but feel like it's a little too big.

I am a longtime Saucony shoe buyer, for running and walking. I am heavy, in my 50's, with a high arch, narrow heel and wide forefoot (supinator). My regular Saucony shoe is the ProGrid Triumph in its many iterations. So I was very happy to see that Saucony has come out with a trail boot. Right out of the box I knew this would be a great shoe. No breaking in, and good cushioning. The size is consistent with the running shoes and there is enough room for wearing a medium thickness sock. Though expensive, this a good buy with the Gortex waterproofing and it is lightweight compared to other hiking boots. That said, beware this is not as rugged or supportive or heavy as a full leather boot, but for my needs of around 5 mile hikes, it fits the bill. Wish they would come up with more color schemes, but this one is okay.

I live in the San Juan mountains of Colorado and have never found a better shoe for hiking or running on the snowy trails, or just wearing around town when navigating the slick sidewalks/parking lots/streets. It has a Vibram sole with a beefy tread that really does grip in the snow. Additionally, this shoe is super lightweight, comfy, and warm. It may run a little big--I wear a 6 and have to wear 2 pairs of socks with it, which isn't a problem. The 5.5 was too small. I actually bought another pair I love these so much. They are pricey, but worth it!!

My 10 year old was in need of a good pair of shoes to help support her ankles and I purchased these for her along with a set of arch supports and right away she felt relief from her pain. Not only are the shoes a perfect fit to her whole foot, but the soles being wide and covering the entire bottom of the shoe gives her greater stability and allows her to participate in sports that she has been avoiding until now. I've just received these shoes and wore them once for water aerobics, which I do up to 5 days a week. I cannot say one bad thing about these shoes. They are very well made and light on the foot. They are also quite stylish and look great. I had previously purchased the Speedo Wave Runner, and while they were also cute and comfortable, they only held up to the chlorine for 6 months, before the fabric upper deteriorated. This shoe also seems to provide great shock absorbtion, which does me a world of good, and anyone else who needs pain relief. They are really made like a good running shoe. Everything on this shoe is mesh, they dry fast. I believe they are going to last much longer. I am completely happy with this purchase. I paid $45 for the Pagoda Blue and I feel like I've gotten away with something, really.

Needed a shoe for a trip involving white water rafting, jungle hikes, rappeling, zip lines, beach walks, city tours and more. I use only a carry on rucksack to travel. This shoe substituted for flip flops, Teva sandals and dress shoes used by my travel companions.

Comfortable even with my bunion, practical, space saving and enough support that using them 10 days straight did not bother my arthritis.

Bonus value was the ease of cleaning. 2 travel companions were delayed at customs in the US because of the mud on their athletic shoes. No real issue but an avoidable annoyance.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)I bought a pair of these water shoes (in light blue and white) for a vacation when I was going cave tubing in the morning and zip-lining in the afternoon, with moderate hiking and climbing in between. These were perfect! Their deep, sectioned treads provide good traction through mud, across wet rocks, and up slippery ladders/steps. Thanks to mesh upper material, thin insoles, and drain holes in the foam mid-soles, they dry out quickly, even with your feet inside. I never felt that squishiness of wet footwear. They offer decent arch support, too, something that I was thankful for as I crossed a rocky riverbed. Best of all, they are completely comfortable all day, without having to break them in.

These lightweight water shoes look like walking or running shoes, but they don't have the rugged construction needed for those uses. Although the shoes transition well between the water and land, they probably wouldn't last long if worn for everyday use. Mine ran true to size; if you plan to wear socks, particularly thick ones, you might have to order up a half-size. The only issue I had was walking up normal stairs -the deep treads tended to catch on the lip of steps, just a little, and I was afraid of falling if I wasn't careful.

I recommend these shoes for boating and land/water transitions or for wading circumstances when you might need extra foot support. If you're just going to use them for the beach or pool, go with one of the less expensive, form-fitting types.

AVIA Men's I Shape Toners Review

This is probably only my 2nd review ever for any product, but I felt I needed to share my experiences with others with similar feet problems. I've been having foot heel pain for the past year and it's progressively gotten worse. I thought I shattered my heel bone the pain was so bad but it looks like I have Plantar Fasciitis resulting from my flat feet. I've tried all types of shoes, New Balance, Nike, Thick sole boots and the Sketcher I shapes. The sketchers felt good at first but my pain never went away. I had begun to just accept that this is how it's going to be from now on.

Not even looking for them, I found the Avia Toners on sale so I tried them on. I immediately noticed that my heel that has the most pain did not hurt when I walked. It's just the opposite; the rocking on the super high spongy arch actually made it feel good to walk. There is so much cushion I can't feel the floor impact what so ever. I've had these shoes over a month now and can you believe I'm playing basketball twice a week again. However, I would not recommend playing full speed in them as the crescent shape underneath may result in you rolling your ankle.

I know it's the shoes that helped me as when we went out to a nice restaurant I had to put on my nice pair of Dockers. These shoes are also cushioned nicely but I barely made it back home due to the pain. Now, I know these shoes helped my condition, but they are so much more comfortable than anything I've ever owned in the past. All shoes should be designed to conform to the arch like these. There was another post on this site that gave a negative comment for quality. So far mine are as good as day one and I wear them even when I'm doing some lite construction work outside.

BTW, I just ordered two more pairs in-case these are ever discontinued.

The AVIA I Shape shoe is a little weird when you first put it on; the arch support is a bit high, causing your foot to be at a different angle than most other shoes. It takes a bit of time to get used to it; after a while (I have had the shoes for a couple of months now) your foot grows accustomed to it, and you don't even notice. What I like about these shoes is that when I play table tennis a lot for two to three hours at a time on a cement floor (it is hard on my feet and knees), these shoes mitigate the negative effects of the hard floor to a large extent (they aren't perfect, but they are the best I have found). The shoes are well made (good quality leather, good craftsmanship--but made in China like everything else). I don't know how well they work muscles in your feet (they are advertised to give your feet muscles some exercise), but I find them comfortable, well made, and good grip soles. I now have two pair of them (I am always afraid when I like something it will be discontinued).

I purchased these exact toning shoes 2 years ago and walk the same route approximately 4 miles a day. These wore very well, held up fantastic and worked as advertised. When I saw the need to replace them, of course I came to Amazon to buy them. I received the new pair right before Christmas and by New Years day, the right heel rubber had separated from the sole. Amazon was first rate in sending out a new pair with return shipping on the old. As of today, 1/24/12 the rubber on the heel of the replacement pair is almost worn through. I don't know if the materials used has changed but it seems the quality of these shoes have been compromised in the last 2 years. As far as the rating system, Amazon would get 5 stars from me for their excellent customer service. UPDATE 1/30/12 Not only are the rubber heels almost worn through, I've now discovered both soles are starting to crack side to side in the back third of the shoe. If you are an avid walker, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND these shoes due to their lack of durability

I ordered these shoe's and did not realize that they were getting shipped from Germany. It took about two months to receive the shoes (VA USA). Once they arrived I was bit disappointed because I received the green instead of the red.(I was trying to match my cycling clothes) I looked into shipping them back and realized that it was not cost effective; And the process was nearly impossible to figure out. (The people at My Hunt Shop were nice and helpful)

After looking at them on the counter for a week or so, I picked them up and noticed the good construction. They seem to fit nicely, so I took them out for a ride. I was looking for a stiff sole for riding my bicycle and they worked out just fine. Now I have ridden them in rain, mud and hot. They seem to dry quickly and keep my feet nice and dry. They are unique and well built, I would recommend them. Just order them a couple months out if you need them for a specific time frame.

I love these shoes. They are very light and fit wonderfully. They took me a couple days to get used to how light they are. They are different than any other 'sneakers' I ever had. I called and asked Merrell what the differences was between the 'waterproof ' ones and the 'GORE-TEX'(which are also waterproof) ones are. I was told that the GoreTex is a brandname and costs a bit more so Merrell has made their own waterproof material to use. BUT I was also told by Merrell, the Merrell waterproof ones don't vent as well as the GORE-TEX does. Get the GORE-TEX! I wear these every morning in high WET grass with my dogs , for over 2 hours. MY feet stay dry. Here is a hint on how to make sure they stay waterproof. The outside will get wet , but not go into your socks area. They take awhile to dry. Make sure they are completely DRY before using them in wet again. I put them on top of the water heater, works great to completely dry them. .

I actually purchased another pair so when these finally wear out (which will be a long time from now, they are well made) I will have another pair to use. Some reviewers said to buy a larger size, I bought my regular size, they fit fine. Also the tongue did rub just a couple of times the 2nd or 3rd time I wore them, but it went right away and molded to my foot. I have now started alternating the two pairs so I know they are completely dry when I start out in the morning. Sometimes if they are damp on the outside overnight (if I forget to put them on the heater after a really wet day) they will let a sllight bit of dampness in after about 1.5 hrs of use. It has never happened when they started out DRY.. even after 8 hrs.

These shoes are pretty comfy, other than they are stiff around the top of the foot, you need to wear a thick sock to help with this, they feel good on the bottom of the feet and fit well, need a half size up.
