The shoes are really comfortable but I wore the soles off in less than 3 months wearing them daily to walk around (no running). This is absolutely unacceptable, previous generations used to last a lot longer.

Discount ASICS Men's GEL-Arctic WR Running Shoe

I live in central Minnesota and have been running in these shoes all winter. Have ran in temps down to -8 below zero and feet have been warm, whether I've worn cotton or Smartwool socks. I typically run 5-12 miles at 8-9 minute miles on asphalt roads in winter. With these shoes I've found it best to run on at least 1/8 inch of packed snow or 1/2 inch of loose snow, but these shoes are still comfortable on bare asphalt the spikes just make a clicking sound. The spikes work great except on glare ice. The bottoms of these shoes can, like any running shoes, get packed with snow then they can become heavy or feel like you're wearing round bottom shoes and the spikes become less or totally ineffective. The spikes are not sharp. They are blunted on the end and are about 3/32 inch diameter; then after about 1/8 inch they step out to about 5/32 inch diameter. The spikes only extend past the sole about 1/16 to 1/8 inch, depending on how you land. If I ran only on icy trails I would consider putting in 1/4 inch pointed track spikes. The shoes are not Goretex, but are water-resistant and seem completely windproof. The spikes can be removed with an included wrench, which I am considering doing so that I can use these shoes for snowshoe running. The soles are slightly rigid, which they need to be to mount spikes and seem to have about the same cushioning as a pair of Asics Kinseis and less cushioning than a pair of Asics Nimbus 11s. I've been away from Asics for awhile, running on Nikes and Spiras, and the Gel Arctics are more comfortable and have larger toeboxes and wider soles than anything I've worn from those companies lately. On snowy and icy roads I would say that I slip about 80% less than my friends who don't have spiked shoes.

I live in Montana and want to be in shape for a spring 10K. Without these spiked shoes, I don't think I could make my goal by spring. We have snow and winter conditions from November until the first part of April. The spikes on the bottom of the shoes work great. If you go to the grocery store after your run, you have to walk lightly or you'll sound like a tap dancer. Most people don't notice when I come tapping up behind them in the grocery aisle. The spikes are not too big, but they are there and they work. I'm writing only because I find comments helpful.

Last year, the first time I attempted to run outside in the winter, I purchased this shoe. Turned out both the snowfall and temperature challenges were well beyond nomal. This shoe was great and exceeded my expectations. Excellent traction running on packed-down ice/snow. Minor slippage on larger patches of thin clear ice. Warm and dry running directly through snow and icey puddles. I'm running outside again this winter. Purchased these shoes for my wife who just tried them for the first time in 10 degrees/2 inches snow (last year I ran in minus 10 degrees/over a foot snow.) She thinks they are great also and will be free from the treadmill/indoor track this winter.

These shoes exceed expectations. I purchased them after a fall on the ice during a run. I replaced the stock spikes (8 mm, conical) with 9 mm pointed and they really rip up the hard pack and ice. I suspect the beefier spikes are over kill, but the included spike tool made for a trivial swap. The added bonus of these shoes is that they are warm and dry. Snow running results in wet feet, but even long runs in these shoes my feet stay remarkably dry. The price is a bit more than I typically spend on shoes, ironically 8 weeks after I purchased these shoes I picked up a used treadmill for the same price. These shoes make it possible to get outside for a run even in the snow and ice.

My son has dropped arch's and severe pronation from fast weight gain from all chemo meds. We went the route of medical orthotics and in grade school all he got was blisters and couldn't walk or any extra activities. We found these shoes and have purchased them ever since. For whatever reason I have always had trouble finding shoes that really made my feet comfortable. A few years back, after doing some research, I discovered the New Balance M1122MC (The single M is for "Men", the MC is for "Motion Control"). I have been wearing this shoe, and its previous incarnations, for several years now and without a doubt this is the best shoe I have ever worn. It's is built around what New Balance calls an SL-2 last (or "mold") and and the extra room that this gives my foot in the toe box makes all the difference in the world. With out a doubt this is my Number 1 choice in shoes!

While I'm not a runner, I bought these on advice from others that have to walk on concrete as part of their job. The anti roll and cushion soles are the best support I've had for my feet in a long time. I ended up buying a second pair, one set for work, and the other for home and biking.

I bought these to replace the size 8/9 crocs from the previous summer for my now 4-year-old son. These are larger in size than I would like, but he loves them and is happy to have shoes he can easily slip on by himself. He wore them all day at SeaWorld in San Diego and all over L.A. this summer without any complaints. He wears them on the weekends and on outings, but not to Pre-K -because they're somewhat large, I prefer that he wear trainers to school. These Super Hero Squad crocs have Iron Man and Thor on one shoe and Captain America and Hulk on the other.

Mizuno Men's Wave Inspire 8 Running Shoe Reviews

A life-long Nike supporter, I decided to get fitted for a running shoe since I am preparing for the Houston Marathon. I knew that I had flat, narrow feet, but I didn't know that I had a problem with pronation until the salesman watched my running stride. Telling him that my previous shoe was a Nike Vomero 6, I half-expected him to bring out the Vomero 7s. Was I stunned when he fitted me with Mizuno Wave Inspire 8.

The moment I put on these stability shoes I knew I was wearing something special. When I ran with them in the store, my ankles didn't turn, and, in a way, it made my feet feel wider. The one comment the salesman made was that the Wave Inspire takes a little bit longer to adjust to a runner's feet, but after running with them a couple of shorter runs of four and five miles, these shoes paid huge dividends on the long run of 13 miles.

What I experienced on that long run was close to divine. I recognized that the Wave 8's designers understood the needs of long distance runners for the simple fact that the shoes prevented much of the energy from the pavement weakening my legs. As a result of the shoe's technology, I can run longer distances at a faster pace without my legs and feet feeling it afterwards.

I will continue using my Nike Vomeros for my gym workouts, but if you're a long distance runner (or at least trying to be as I am), then I definitely recommend being fitted for a running shoe at your local shoe store. You may be surprised. In my case, I found a wonderful stability shoe in the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8!

When it came time to replace my worn-out Wave Inspire 7's, I got curious about another company that had my "Adrenaline" all pumped up by their fancy technology for absorbing shock. I thought they'd provide better cushioning, but in the middle of a half marathon when knee pain kicked in, I wasn't "running happy", and finally admitted what the blisters and dead cat bounce cushioning had been telling me all along: it was time to try the Wave Inspire 8's. Wow! and Awesome! are understatements. This is the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn for my size 13, somewhat narrow and mildly overpronating feet. Mizuno got everything dialed in perfectly on this model. I'm battling the urge to stockpile a bunch so I can have a great shoe to run in for the next ten years. The 8's have a slightly reduced upper around the ankle (nice, because the 7's initially rubbed my ankle bone), a slightly more roomy toe box, and better forefoot cushoining than the 7's. I did a 20 mile run last week, had no pain anywhere, and the blisters are gone. The guy at the running store told me once people run in Mizuno's, they don't go back to other brands. I certainly learned my lesson! Couldn't recommend them more.

I had the wave inspire 6 and they were a great running shoe. I was excited for the wave inspire 7, but was disappointed very quickly once I put them on to go running. They were not the most comfortable, especially around the ankle. In fact, I bought another pair of 6s because I didn't like the 7s. When it came to the wave inspire 8 I was weary because of my dissatisfaction with the 7s, but because of how good my wave inspire 6s were, I decided to give them a shot. The 8s are better than the 6s, and much better than the 7s. I am very satisfied with the wave inspire 8. It is very comportable, and a solid running shoe. When the pair I have are worn down, I will not hesitate to buy another pair. Great shoe!

After running my first marathon in 2009 and going thru a good number of shoes leading up to it I felt like I would be a life long Asics wearer. Now that I am doing some serious training again for a half marathon I noticed some knee issues and just general comfort issues with my current pair of Asics training shoes. I was wearing the Asics Gel 3020, since I was told I was a moderate over pronator. I know these were not the best Asics out there, but at this point in my training I was only running 7 miles max, 3-4 times a week. The tread was wearing quickly and I only had 140 miles on them. I made a trip to my local running store, told them my issues and they did a full eval and fit again. I kept telling the clerk ASIC this and that, maybe Brooks, but he finally talked me into trying others including these Mizuno Wave Inspire 8's. As soon as I looked at them I was skeptical, but as soon as I put them on I was instantly open minded. They were noticeably lighter, had good response in my step. I then took them for a short spin on the track at the store and definitely knew I was on to something. I decided to buy a pair there since at the time they were $115.00, the same as Amazon. $40 Cheaper than the Asics I was considering. I took them out the next day for a short 5K and had not foot or knee pain. I also noticed less leg fatigue. The stance of these took some getting used to since to me it feels like the rear heel sits lower than most other running shoes I have had in the past. I quickly noticed though this meant a much smoother transition through each foot strike to push off. The cushion was great, much better than my last Asics, even with out the magical gel. The shoe breathes great, very important in Florida. The wear has been good and I am up to 100 miles now in this pair. The Inspire 9 is out which is good for me and you since these are now priced at $87. Going to get another pair now for Christmas. I would highly recommend these! FYI I am 5'10 and 200lbs, so yes they are good at a higher weight people than your normal 120lbs runner.

Coming from the ASICS GT-2XXX series which I've worn for the last 10 years. Supposedly they changed the design for the 2170 and 2000 models and a lot of higher mileage runners are complaining re: injury. I found the transition to this shoe fairly seamless. I didn't like it for the first 4 miles, but as I got used to it/broke it in, it started feeling really good. The ride is firmer than the ASICS, but not severely so. So far so good, after 60 miles in them, I ordered another pair for the future.
