This is a great shoe for walking or hiking, very light weight and comfortable, don't even need to wear orthotics with them.Best Deals on Merrell Women's J68204 Avian Light Ventilator Hiking Shoe
I have plantar fasciitis so I wear these with Powerstep protech full length orthotic supports. Worn together, these shoes are heaven to my feet. They are light weight and well ventilated. I originally ordered them in Drizzle/Lychee which is a great color, and I just ordered a new pair in Dusty Olive an even better color. They are not waterproof, the soles wear out quickly and I've had to replace the laces from rubbing against the top metal grommet, but I STILL give them 4 stars because of the comfort and style. These were my first pair of Merrell shoes so I was excited about them. They fit very comfortably and are light weight. But when I started really hiking in them they were a problem. I frequently hike a trail that is very steep, and after a couple days in a row of hiking this trail, even though it's only a couple miles, my feet started to hurt. That's because they don't provide enough support at the ankle against pressure coming down towards the toe and even though they are the right size, my toes were continuously being pressed together at the end of the shoe.Adding insult to injury, a strip of the knobs on the soles of the shoes that grip the ground has now come loose and is hanging off the shoe. Needless to say I am not impressed. There are supposed to be very well made shoes, and they have not lived up to the reputation of the brand.
However, the waterproof feature works very well on my shoes. One person said in her review that it didn't work for her. She must have had defective shoes or something because it works great for me and does not let in sand or anything else.
Aside from problem with the sole of the shoe, I think this shoe would be fine if you were only hiking level trails, but who want's to do that?
