I am a casual runner about a month into a 10k training program. My old running shoes were not offering adequate arch support and as a result my feet were sore after every run. These shoes are the exact oppositegreat arch support! Additionally, they are very light and you can actually feel the air through the mesh. This is great for running on hot days. I'm quite fond of the bright colors, which are true to the image. I had read other reviews saying this shoe runs small. This was not my experience, but I do have a narrow foot. Overall, I highly recommend this shoe.

Great lightweight, cushiony shoe, with a very sheer-like material. I just bought them yesterday but after one day of running my feet can tell whether or not the shoe is good and my feet are loving this shoe. I will continue to buy them and recommend them.

These were a gift for my wife. She got the pink and yellow version. They are quite loud and bright, which was what I was hoping for. Sometimes the internet pics don't color match what you end up getting, but in this case they are spot on.

Fitwise she wears a 9M in most running shoes and these were no exception. She says these are very comfortable. Fit and finish wise they are well made. The upper feels like a traditional running shoe and the lower is well cushioned and flexs well, which is the design of the shoe. I have a pair of realflex with a suede upper and this smoothflex shoe is much nicer. After seeing hers in poerson and getting postive feedback from her on its function, I will likely look at getting the men's version in the future.

I bought these shoes after a fellow runner recommended them. She suggested that I get a half size larger, and she was right. normally I wear a 10, but thte 10.5 fits just perfect. I didn't have to break them in. I took them out on a 5k run and felt like I was flying. They are super light and breathable. The only down side is that rocks can get stuck in between the ruts, so stay off the trails. I am sure I will buy another pair!

I love Scott shoes but this one is too flexible in the midfoot area for my liking. It is not a stiff enough shoe for me to run on the trail, some people may not need a stiff shoe and in that case, it should be fine.

The latest Barefoot line up from Merrell have been absolutely the best shoes I have run in for quite some time. I have been running in the Barefoot arc 2 for about a year now along with VFF's for about the past 3 years. Once I saw the Vapors I just had to try them out. The fit may feel a size too big at first but once you get settled into the shoe it seems to form to your foot like most Merrell shoes do. The toe box is perfect leaving enough room for the toes to do what they need to do during the run. I bought this shoe to try them out and have since then ordered all available colors. If you like VFF's you will love this shoe

I've never reviewed anything but felt the need to with these because they are an extraordinary product.

First thing to mention is that I live in a beach community and have always run barefoot on the beach. BUT, I also ride a mountain bike to the beach (quickly not for leisure) and barefoot pedaling just won't cut it I've fallen enough with the skinny tires I have on sandy roads to know they need protection. So....

First thing go a 1/2 size small at least! I like my athletic shoes to be compact on my foot and ended up a full size down on these.

As for feel/performance.... I tried the Vibram KSO, and absolutely loved the feel (like there's nothing even on my foot), however my toes are somewhat crooked and after messing with them for 30 minutes I'd generally just give up on them. In comparison, the Merrells are not quite as comfortable on the top of the foot I can tell there are laces but it's not uncomfortable (I don't wear socks with the Merrells). If the Vibram foot comfort is a 10, the Merrell is an 8. In terms of comparing to barefoot, the Merrell is pretty much perfect I can feel everything below my foot, there is no unneeded rise or padding (4mm sole made by Vibram I believe), but I don't need to constantly look at the ground to watch for every little shell that crosses my path. And I can ride the bike with the gnarly teeth in the pedals with no problem at all. The sole's grip, in fact, was far superior to the Vibrams when on the bike. Which is also something to note the grip on these is also fantastic with one caveat... after my run on the beach the sand does get caught in the tread (as would be expected) and does compromise the traction. A few good stomps gets the majority of it out but I always need to really smack them together to dislodge it all. Again, though, it's sand and I tend to run through the water at time just cause it's so awesome to have finally found a perfect shoe for my needs. Which brings me to my final point they don't have a problem being wet. You get a bit of noise from them, but no noticeable weight difference, my foot doesn't slide around, and no problems once they dry out (that I've noticed after 2 weeks).

Overall these are a revolutionary product in my opinion the perfect solution for a biker/runner/swimmer. I haven't tried any other sports in them, but I have worn them casually and even then they just feel good protection for the feet but not all the bulk! I can't say enough about how happy I am with this purchase and the one person that also got them on my suggestion (who is not a "barefooter" at all) also loves them. Hope this helps someone I say go for it if you're looking for a minimalist sneaker!

Best Deals on Merrell Men's Vapor Glove Minimal Running Shoe

I'm a skateboarder, and have found minimalist running shoes to be the best skate shoes. I've been skating in a pair of Minimus (don't know the model) I bought marked-down at the local mall eight months ago, but they are starting to wear. I just received the Vapor Gloves and took them out for a spin this evening. Very comfortable and very grippy. I ride an un-gripped homemade wooden longboard deck and the Merrill's provide excellent traction even after a soaking in this evening's downpour which caught me just before I got back to my car. I felt very connected to my board and to the asphalt. It's close, but I think I prefer them to my old Minimus, which may not be fair as the NB's had served well for months and are worn from extensive use.

I like the Vapor Glove styling and the wide toe area. I did buy them 1/2 size smaller than usual after reading other reviews here and am glad that I did. They fit well and there's still enough room for socks. They are 1/2 size smaller than my Minimus and the fit is very close, maybe even slightly looser.

The Vapor Gloves seem well-made and I'm hopeful that they will last. Plan to update this review in a few months. I give these five stars for skating. Skaters you should try minimalist running shoes. Runners you should try longboarding!

Honest reviews on Merrell Men's Vapor Glove Minimal Running Shoe

The good:

These shoes feel very light (I weighed one at 5.95 oz, size 10.5). Unlike similar-weight water socks, they stay on solidly, and the little bit of structure in the heel makes them pretty stable in side-to-side motions. The mesh over the toes and on the sides is very thin, allowing for good ventilation, but looks and feels sturdy. The tongue is slightly padded, which is fine. The sole itself is reasonably flexible and fairly protective when walking on gravel, riding a bike, etc. I was hoping it would be a bit thinner for more of a barefoot feel, but it's comparable to the KSO, which is not bad. The tread is nice and grippy, although it does tend to trap dirt and little pebbles underneath. The extension of the rubber over the toes is a nice protective feature. Overall, the look and feel is nice.

The not-so-good:

First of all, I normally wear an 11 but based on other reviews I ordered a half size down. I'm still not sure if this was a good idea. See, the length is a little longer than I would prefer. My big toenail (which is cut pretty short) tends to catch on the bottom edge of the rubber toe-lip when I flex my toes, which wouldn't happen if the end of my toe were closer to the end of the shoe. But the toe box feels narrow. I don't normally wear wides, but with a minimal shoe I think I should be able to spread my toes out when I walk, and in the vapor glove I can't spread them as far as I'd like. They're a big improvement over track spikes or, really, most other sport shoes, but the mesh does end up pushing my big toe into my second toe and curling my little toe inward a bit. This may not bother most people very much.

The bad:

So I put these shoes on (without socks, which is how I intend to wear them in general) and I wore them for a few hours of intermittent walking with a couple minutes of light jogging. After a while I started to feel a hot spot on the knuckle of the fourth toe of each foot, right where it sits under the edge of the tongue. But when I took the shoes off to see if there was a bit of pointy stitching or something, I realized it wasn't a hot spot at all--the shoe was sticking to my toe and pulling on the skin and hair every time I took a step. Turns out the lining flap underneath the lacing loops isn't sewn down, it's glued with some kind of sticky-note glue that doesn't keep it in place at the edges. I may have to sew the ends of the flaps in place myself to solve this problem, which seems a little nuts for an $80 pair of shoes. It makes me wonder what other pieces might start to come apart over time.

I'm still planning to wear them as everyday shoes, so really my rating is more like a 3.5, and I'll try to remember to update after a few months to comment on durability. But until I figure out the stitching issue I won't be able to do long runs in them, and the squished toes mean I might not really want to anyway. I'm left wondering if the Vibram EL-X would have been a better choice.

I bought these to wear for a warrior dash, but as I broke them in they quickly became my favorite running shoe. I can say with some confidence that I will likely never buy a non-minimalist running shoe. I have ran about 50 miles in them so far and there is no sign of wear whatsoever. Even after running through the mud and climbing obstacles at the Warrior Dash they came clean spraying with the hose. The running form is a little different than a traditional shoe. Even with less padding the impact feels lower. I have zero pain in my knees. Your calves will be sore at first as those muscles are used more. This shoe seems to be a like a good choice for a mix of trail and road running. My next pair will be the Merrell Road Glove 2.

Skechers cured my plantar fasciitis and when you walk, you feel tired so I believe it can help exercise more. The important thing is it is very comfortable by walking long distances, you don't feel any pain at all.

I planned to buy a new pair of Gel GT 2170 only to find that these got replaced (again) with a new version, GT-2000, for a higher price (as usual). Highly frustrating after many happy years using the 2150, 2160, 2170. So I checked out the other Asics shoes with Duomax system. Although Asics uses this system in many types they aren't identical. You can check by pressing the grey inside heel part (where the arch starts) with your thumb to see how firm it is. The firmer the better for pronating runners. This Exalt feels the same way as the old 2170. Next is the heel stability and shock absorption which you can check by pressing the sole on the back part of the heel. Also here I found that the Exalt is identical to the 2170; not spongy like the Phoenix. Front and upper part are more or less identical for most Asics running shoes: lighter structure than Nike and Brooks, so more for mid foot/heel runners. I'm using these shoes for running so colors are not relevant. After a few runs they'll be muddy anyhow. Last but most important: I did a quick 50 yard run in the store to check for comfort and manufacturing quality. Comfortable feeling so no problems (if you want to wear them right away you know they fit OK).

So, the Exalt sole is built for runners with somewhat higher weight with moderate to significant pronation and who can use good stability and shock absorption: Me (57, BMI 28, 9 min/mi, 15-20 mi/wk). The price is less than the new GT-2000, so my next 300 miles running will be on the Exalt. If they still are OK after a few runs I'll happily downgrade from the GT2170 / GT-2000 to this Exalt version and will buy a 2nd and 3rd pair.

Update1: I did three runs in five days, total 25 miles. I was surprised by their excellent shock absorption. Muscle recovery was also better than my 250mi 2170's. So I bought two more pairs and don't have to worry about running shoes for at least one year.

Update2: The DuoMax system on the GT-2000/2170 extends up to the ball of the foot so offers more support for heavily pronating runners. The extended Duomax also offers more stability than on the Exalt. I noticed this last aspect when I used the Exalt for a hike on a rocky mountain path. If you plan to use your running shoes 'off-road' you should try the GT-2000 (or buy mountaineering shoes).

I am a part time runner, I am muscular heavy, so I don't run marathons, but I do my five miles or so, this shoe is good, not super great but it does the job. For the price you can't beat it and people like the color. There is a more expensive shoe with the same color and people confuse it with that one. Enjoy, but remember always order one size bigger.

Bought these online, paying special attention to the comments from other buyers. These are excellent shoes! I recently used them in a 5K. They were so comfortable that I did not realize I still had them on until 8 o'clock that night. It's quite a statement to take on a few miles and stay in them while running post-race errands for a total of 13 hours with no discomfort whatsoever! I have to +1 the advice from other purchasers and recommend you get a half-size larger. I did, and they fit me perfectly!

On an aesthetic note, the shoes are not purple as in photos, but royal blue per the description :)

With 13 wide feet, I have always struggled to find a decent fit in the shoe department. However, I have just fallen in love with this shoe!!! I love walking around barefoot and have seen scores of people hiking around in the vibram 5 finger shoes (I am an avid hiker/backpacker), yet, whenever I have tried on the vibrams, the toe shoes never fit. This was mostly because of the little toe. My little toe is not long and doesn't really get into its own space on the vibrams and likes to come out. They fact that the Filas don't have a fifth toe, Hooray!! Also, I think it provides a little extra protection for that delicate little toe for anyone.

I felt compelled to write this review because last weekend I put them to a major test, I took them with me backpacking and gave them a multi-mile trial. I was in the mountains and had 32lbs of gear on my back. These things were flawless! My feet loved them! After several hours in them, my feet hurt less than they would have if were wearing my favorite well worn in hiking boots. Although the soles on these are a bit heavier than those of the Vibrams, this was an advantage. With trails littered with sharp rocks and tree roots, the soles on these were perfect to protect my feet from a serious poking, yet allow them that total freedom of movement. They also have a heavier section of rubber and leather (or leather type material, idk) on that little double toe pocket. This was a big help when it came to accidentally kicking rocks (something I do all the time), I didn't hurt any of the little guys.

No one shoe will ever be the shoe for everyone, but I recommend you give these guys a try, because if the shoe fits, you will love them!!

After wearing vibrams for the last 5 yrs, wanted to replace. The newer versions just did not fit my 10.5 extra wide foot at all. So I looked around, found some local stores that carried other brands of toe shoes, and lo n behold found these. Simply put AWESOME. Much better construction than vibrams and truly fit my foot like a glove. I am happy again.

Shoes provide extra agility on the trail and protection against rocks while still keeping the almost barefoot feeling. Used these to wade through the a river with a very rocky bed and they worked like a charm. I also appreciate the protection on my little toes.. combing the 2 smaller toes is a nice feature! Bought these at academy for 49.99.. cant say enough good things!!

Honest reviews on Fila Men's Skele-Toes Bay Slip-On Shoe

After trying out the more expensive Bikila LS Shoe Men's by Vibram Fivefingers, which is subject to the same fundamental flaw which I will detail, I figured I would try out the less hip and more economical (half as expensive) fila alternative.

In contrast to Vibram's bikila, these shoes have a thicker sole, I'd say about twice as thick. This is vastly superior if you need the extra cushion to run on a track that is littered with small jagged rocks. Accordingly, their weight is about twice that of Vibram's bikila. The little fastening mechanism is also a major plus, as you don't have to stop on occasion to tie those pesky shoelaces mid-run.

Now on to the fatal flaw: If you run on a regular basis (I run 4 miles a day) be prepared for the fabric to rip on the inside of your big toe. The sole seemed to hold up pretty well, with a little more wear around the big toe area, but because there is a bias for your big toe to shift to the inside of your foot, there is extra pressure pulling the glued fabric from the rubber sole. The obvious fix is to "cup" the big toe on the inside with the rubber sole all the way until it is level with the outside. The ultimate result is that my big to is exposed to the ground and two of my injinji Performance Micro Toesocks were torn at the big toe. It'd be vastly less annoying if these socks didn't come at $12 a pop.

After a mere two months use, these toe shoes have let me down. If you use them casually, I suppose they will last you a bit longer but with enough use will inevitably tear. I will abstain from buying any more toe shoes from any manufacturer until this design flaw is fixed!

I have been a runner for a dozen years, switching to minimalist/barefoot shoes about 2.5 years ago. I run upwards of 55 mpw and run almost every day. My first minimalist shoe was the Merrell Trail Glove and I loved it until it fell apart just 200 miles into it's life. Then I went for the Vibram KSO and it didn't make it that far and also rubbed blisters every time that I tried to wear it barefoot. Then I found the Fila's right after they came on the market and have owned several pairs, alternating three different pair for my daily runs. They fit so well that I rarely have a hot spot anywhere and then usually after running so long (90 min.) that they have become sweat-saturated. They have been the most comfortable and long-lasting of all the minimalist shoes I've had and I have never had to wear socks with them. If you want light weight shoes and want to run with barefoot mechanics, I highly recommend these.

I agree with the term fashion sneaker, these are adorable and very nice to look at. For cardio and working out I really do like these shoes, however I am not very fond of them for running. This might be because mine are a little tight and I'm still breaking them in but I just feel like the arches aren't good for the purpose of running. Also I am a consistent 6.5 and these are too snug, maybe order a half size up for more comfort. Overall a cute and useful shoe, just maybe not for running.

I can always rely on the fact that I wear a size 7. The tongue of these shoes is attached to the side of the shoe. Therefore, it makes it rather difficult to get your foot in the shoe if you have thicker socks (or an ankle brace) on. After being worn a few times they losen up a bit. I did order a 7 but I probably could have gone with a 7 1/2. If you have a wider foot (even in the slightest) I would certainly order a size up.

Looking to replace my Voltaic shoes, I tried these out definitely not the same!! The "Voltaic" has fantastic cushioning, support, and fits my narrow feet extremely well. These "Voltaic 3" however are somehow wider, all the nice cushion around the toes seems to have been taken out and put into the ankle area. Very awkward and not comfortable at all. I can't recommend these shoes, move back to the original Voltaics if you can find them..

Bought these for my hybrid bike. I ride 11 miles to work in each direction and these are very comfortable. The cleats are in an indented part of the shoes so they don't scratch up the office floor on my walk in before I change them. I also think it makes them less prone to getting small rocks stuck in there and affecting the clipping.

Would definitely recommend these. They are heavy so they may not be great for someone that is looking for something light for a road bike. If you have a hybrid or a mountain bike and are looking for something you can walk around in pretty easily when you are off the bike I think these are perfect.

I always have trouble finding shoes to fit because I have small feet. These shoes fit great, were true to their size, and rachet tight enough to be effective. I love that the heel has an actual sneaker tread so if you have to walk anywhere if you stop for lunch or a drink they really aren't bad, yet still plenty stiff to be efficient. They worked great with my cleats and I love them!

These shoes look great and are great value, BUT they run incredibly small. I ordered a 39 and I normally wear a 38 shoe. When I received them they were about a size and a half too small still! I am reluctant to re order as I have no idea how much bigger I should go.

I just purchased my first recumbent trike, so I was looking for a nice looking pair of SPD biking shoes, also a first. I spent quite a while deciding which to order, there were so many to choose from, but I kept coming back to this pair. The only thing that I hesitated on was, they were a little more than I wanted to spend, but I finally I ordered them and I'm so glad I did. When I got them I was so excited. I unpacked them and put them on and wore them for 8 straight hours. They fit me perfectly and are so comfortable. They were so easy to put on... Bought these shoes 4/28 and wore them 4/29 for my first mountain hike of the season. I swear these shoes don't require any breaking in to wear. I was incredibly comfortably climbing up rock and even ice. The only downside was when the soles got a little wet, climbing up a flat rock got slippery and had to wait for them to dry a bit. However, my boyfriend had the same issue with his Columbia hiking shoes. Great support in these and are definitely waterproof as we trekked through mud and puddles at times. Absolutely love these. Can't wait to wear them for the next outing! :)

These hiking shoes are simply wonderful. They are incredibly comfortable and yet they provide the support I am always looking for in a good pair of hiking shoes. I have worn them to work for over a month now and they are holding up well. I work outdoors on rugged terrain and I cover several miles a day over rocky slopes, hiking trails, and through dense (and sometimes thorny) vegetation. They are extremely lightweight which worried me at first but they are taking a beating with no obvious problems. I ordered a half size larger because several reviewers said that worked best for them and I would agree the fit was perfect.

These shoes are snug in width and a bit difficult to put on. You have to loosen the laces all the way down before slipping your foot in. Takes more time than I would like. I cannot wear them for very long since the toe area is cramped. They are very lightweight which is wonderful but haven't stretched out at all to be comfortable for me. They look good though.

Vivobarefoot is, in my opinion, the makers of some of the finest minimalist footwear in the business. I own Breatho trail shoes, Gobi casual shoes, and another style of running shoe whose name eludes me at the moment. The new Stealth is a wonderful addition to their line.

I typically run completely barefoot, but sometimes, the conditions (of both the road or my feet) call for some type of footwear. I was approaching a local half-marathon and wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it unshod, so I bought a pair of Stealth shoes. Since I am already use to no padding between foot and ground, the thin sole and zero support of the Stealth wasn't a surprise to me, but if you aren't well-prepared, these shoes could overwhelm you. Good ground feel, roomy toe box, and very snug fit when laced properly. I typically wear a size 10 shoe, and these seem to run true to size. As it turned out, I raced barefoot, but wore these shoes on a hike the day before and they were terrific. I don't even like to wear socks if I can avoid them, and these shoes were comfortable and my feet blister-free afterward.

They ARE pricey, though, and that's too bad, because more people should be able to experience how nice these shoes are. An outstanding minimalist road shoe, I gladly give these 5 stars.

Fit is a little small...I prefer inno8 much more. Many more choices at a more reasonable price. Would not purchase again.
