I bought these for use in Tough Mudder/Spartan obstacle races and other similar courses. My first event in them is coming up shortly but I did a few pre-runs in them to test them out. Tried them out a few times on pavement but it is kind of a waste with these shoes, like putting 4 wheel drive tires on your jeep to drive your kids to daycare
My first test was a 4 mile trail run over rocky terrain and loose gravel. The aggressive tread gave me great traction and the extra ankle support was a great addition on a trail that could easily cause you to roll an ankle. Light and cool these worker really well as a trail runner
My second test was 3 miles on the beach and in the water. I got these for obstacle events so I wanted to test how they would hold up in the water, and I could not have been more impressed. Completely submerged water just flowed into the shoe and right out, within taking 4 or 5 steps back on dry terrain the water all squeezed out and the shoe was completely dry and light, free of being weighed down holding in a bunch of water. The wet sand did have a tendency to clump up in the fine tread but a quick tap and they were once again good as new. My only issue was that these shoes are not made to be worn sockless, and once wet my socks were soaked but my shoe was totally dry, they were light running socks so they dried quickly with the vents on the shoe but still something to be aware of. Got home and a quick rinse had them good as new,
Next test will be a 4 mile mud/obstacle and if I remember I will come back and update this, but overall I am very pleased and impressed with this shoe so far
**Update 7/1**
Did my first mud/obstacle run with these. It was a very tough 4 miles over mostly rocky terrain. Shoes preformed exceptionally. The high ankles were great on uneven surfaces and the cushioning was quite comfortable over rocks. In and out of mud the tread on these were great. While others were slipping all over trying to scale a wall I was able to get traction and walk up like spiderman. The tight fit around the ankles kept out large rocks but the shoe still filled with mud and sand so by the end we quite heavy. Once home a quick rinse to get the sand out and they were good as new.

I bought these specifically for mud runs and am very happy. They are very comfortable to wear for long distances and off road terrain. I recently did the super Spartan(little over 8 miles) with a lot of trail running, water, mud, rope clmbing, etc...These over great support for your ankles and have excellent treads for extra traction on the dirt trails. Lightweight and dry pretty fast. I don't get why a lot of people doing mud runs will still wear a regular pair of sneakers with poor traction the moment the sole gets clogged with dirt and they soak up water and hold onto it making your feet very heavy once you go through the typical water obstacles.

the shoes were comfortable, but in the right shoe the tongue curled inward and was hurting the instep, thus rendering the shoes not suitable any physical activity. I would venture to say that this is an issue with that particular pair, and I can definitely see that, if I had enough time to exchange it, I would have replaced with another pair. I, however, was running out of time to break in the shoes for the Spartan race I purchased them for, and had to go with a different shoe.I would recommend trying the shoes for yourself, as they definitely have great grip and seem very accommodating to the feet, if all parts actually stay in place. The should would drain well, and the soles allow you to feel the ground while being well protected.
