I wore these quite a lot on an adventure vacation and I even purposely stepped in puddles (less than ankle high, anyway) to test out their waterproof abilities. Well, I'm pleased to say they kept my feet dry, and were able to take on a lot of terrain in temperate climates.
The only detractor is I definitely have to wear blister band aids on my heels, as the way these come up rubs the wrong way.
If you're looking for cold weather shoes, these are not your answer, but Columbia makes excellent boots with cold ratings. I have another pair for just that, and those are great, too.

Right from the box, I wore these on a 3 mile beach walk on ice crusted snow...performed well. Great traction. A llittle stiffer than my usual running shoes, but they are quite runable!! Did not check the waterproofing as everything is frozen but they do seem a little warmer than some running shoes and also protect feet better from rocks, sticks etc Lacing system allows for nice snug fit. I suspect these shoes are a tad narrower than some "b" width shoes...but the fit is fine for me.

They are nicer than in the picture, perfect for adventure trips. I give them 4 stars because they come a little tight.

I travel a lot and need waterproof shoes for some of my destinations, such as Seattle. I saw these on the Columbia website and found them on Amazon for much less than retail. I received the shoes and wore them around the house to see if they were going to be comfortable enough for all the walking I do. Not only were they totally comfy, I decided to wear them while I was walking my treadmill. Mind you, this was the first day that I received them and they felt like I'd owned them for years. Plus, they're really cute with the purple they don't look too butch!
