If you live/work in an environment where you need to remove shoes often, or have a household where shoes are taboo on the carpet, or any other such place, then these may be very useful. I purchased them so I could tighten my sneakers, after an accident that drastically limited my mobility, and these were a lifesaver for me! This length is definitely not made for my sized shoes, however taking the spring loaded clip off and putting them on most other laces is quite simple. As a cheaper alternative, I have seen clips very very similar to this on hiking packs, and other "quick tie" products. The biggest difference I've noticed between these and the ones on my hiking backpack is that these have a stronger spring in them, so they seem to loosen a bit less throughout the day.
Definitely not the best investment for everybody, but this is definitely a great product for people who are looking for an easier way to lace up quickly, or with less mobility.
