Recently got the Oboz Hardscrabble for an all around workout shoe. Happy to say its performance exceeded my expectation. Shoe is light weight, sturdy, and flexible. I do a lot of jump training, shoe aborbs impact and I had no pain in my feet after my work out.

Shoe fit well. Arch felt like it was custom made for my foot.

Definitely worth the money.

These are great. I am not using them as a trail runner, more of a hiker that has now turned into my everyday shoe. I have a pretty narrow foot and these don't have to be laced overly tight to get a comfortable feel. The heal support is rock solid and the toe area has the right amount of room. They have great traction and have worked nice as a mountain bike shoe on flat pedals and done equally well on beach hikes. I can't say enough good things about these, they are awesome!

Amazon's product description should be corrected. After few research, I found out that the the green/lichen Oboz hardscrablles are not for men nor not available for men's size. This are the women's version. Men's has the olive color.

I was so excited waiting for my first Oboz, at first I thought that they ran at least 1 size small. Then I found out that I got the women's shoes in 9.5. Amazon still posting the Oboz Men's Hardscrabble BFIT Multisport Shoe,Lichen,9.5 M as of 3-1-2013.

I'm an outdoor professional, in the last 4 years I've cataloged over 500 nights in the field with various outdoor education and guiding companies. I bought these in 2010 as a pair of trail runners. They felt good out of the box, had cushioning for trail running (lightweight runners be damned, you want armor against NC granite rock and the occasional forgotten piece of trail-reinforcing rebar when running) and off-trail travel without a pack while I worked. Almost right away the shoe started to fray on the inside along the inner heel collar and the The reflective material also started to delaminate within a month. The black toe box cover has held up remarkable well and the midsole and outersole have held up well and only after 2 years of repeated wear have they started to loose their shock-absorption and show significant tread wear. The glue that holds the soles to the show has held up incredible, its still rock solid. I've had my Chacos, Asolo boots and even a pair of Stohlquist wetshoes lose their soles before these did, with equal amounts of use. This is a glowing review in that regard.

Be warned, with all the extra cushioning, these shoes get STINKY FAST. This is less of a critique and more of a warning for those with extra sweaty feet (like me): Be ready to give these babies the occasional dunk in a dilute bleach or mirazyme solution.

All in all I've owned tougher shoes, but these LOOK great and are useful for pretty much everything. I've used them to hike off-trail in the Linville Gorge, play flag football, run in the Flatirons and recently as wetshoe beaters for hiking in the sawgrass of the Everglades and they are still holding up.

One minor critique is that the damn cylindrical laces come untied REALLY easily, sometimes even after a surgeons knot and a double knot, but it is what is. The sockliner/insert was also poorly glued to the inside and came off after only 3 weeks, but most folks should replace their liners anyways with a custom one. I pronate and I will say that these have pretty good arch support, although everyone's foot is different and I did add an arch supporting liner just to be safe (rolled ankles SUCK).

Oboz is an American company and I think still independent (we'll see how long that lasts, if it hasn't changed already), though their shoes are manufactured in Asia which is an unfortunate reality but perhaps a necessary one for a smaller company.

Bottom line: For the price, get these shoes. They are similar to more traditional running shoes for those of us who never had a problem with heel-striking, and for the amount of durability you get, the price is hard to beat.
