i bought them for day hiking. First try was Clouds Rest in Yosemite on Saturday (13 miles and 3000 gain/loss). The 2nd time was two days later for a Whitney day hike (my first time hiking whitney, 22 miles and 6500 gain/loss). Talking about taking a risk.It took me a bit of adjusting to break the shoes in. Once i figured out what's comfortable, they are great. Nothing that creates discomfort. The bottom is legendary in grabbing onto dirt and scree, which was a BIG PLUS for Whitney.
If your hiking terrain is steep, loose dirt, loose rocks/pebbles (scree/talus), or often wet from water fall or humidity, try these. They are not NOT slippery on wet rocks (got stream crossing during whitney) but with caution, they do ok.
the sizing is a bit big. I usually go a half size up for hiking shoes, as this time, but they feel a bit too roomy, even after 16 hours on my feet. perhaps this one is a "true to size" hiking shoes.

I love this shoe! It was comfortable from day one when I put them on. I have suffered from plantar fasciitis and needed a shoe with good arch support in the right place and this shoe fulfilled that necessity. I work in a hospital setting and I'm on my feet most of the day. I get lots of compliments because they are stylish! Its more than just a good running shoe. I highly recommend the Salomon Women's Speedcross 3 CS running shoe!Honest reviews on Salomon Women's Speedcross 3 Climashield Trail Running Shoe
I bought these shoes after buying a pair of the regular Speedcross because I wanted to have a waterproof version to wear when hiking in snow. Unfortunately, for some reason, my socks bunch up in this shoe, which has never been a problem in the regular Speedcross. It might have to do with the fact that the tongue of the shoe is stitched to the body (to make it more waterproof, I guess). I find it very annoying to have to stop and pull up my socks again every few minutes, only to have them bunch up again in just a couple of steps.I love my regular Speedcross running shoes, which I got for hiking, not running, to give me better traction going downhill, especially on steep, sandy, or pebbly trails. I used to slip and fall a lot, and that almost never happens now. I feel very secure and lightfooted in these shoes (like I could hike for hours), and they are the single most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. I've also worn them in snow without my feet getting wet, so they must have a certain amount of waterproofing as well.
