As a drummer, I was looking for foot wear that would improve my contact with my bass drum pedals and still allow me some grip. I didn't want to spend the money on "Vibram 5 finger" shoes and during an Amazon search, these popped up. Their price was very reasonable, so I bought them. I think these are a great solution to my personal application. They fit tightly so my foot does not shift inside. The split-toe feature is great; it makes me feel like I'm barefooted but I'm still protected from the metal surface of the bass drum pedal.
As far as other applications, I don't have any input. I leave these shoes by my drums and use them only for that purpose. I'm not sure how they hold up "on the street", but they feel well constructed and they haven't worn out or anything.
