I've been using these for at least 3 years in most of my hiking and running shoes. I have very narrow, high arched feet and have plantar fasciitis. Most shoes dont have near the arch support I need and this insole makes otherwise unsupportive shoes comfortable. For me, the insoles seem to work best in shoes with some degree of cushioning. In shoes that are firmer the insoles dont seem to be quite as comfortable, possible due to the hard plastic base of the Enduro-sole.(and my sensitive feet) The insoles are thermo-moldable, meaning you put them in the oven (200 deg.?)for a few minutes per the instructions, then immediately put them in the intended shoes and stand in them for a couple minutes while they conform to your feet. This insole is also available in a low profile(thinner)version for lower volume shoes.(or higher volume feet) None of Montrail's shoe lineup fits my narrow foot but these insoles are great. I've tried many aftermarket insoles over the years, including other thermo-moldable brands and even custom orthotics, which turned out to be the worst experience of all. The only minor flaw I find with the design of the product is that over time, when used in a highly cushioned running shoe the hard plastic in the heel tends to sink into the softer cushiony foam of the shoe. This results in the arch support actually feeling higher and more noticeable where the arch meets the heel. If the company can figure out a solution to this issue it would, for me be a perfect product. For me this doesnt become a problem for several months to a year and by then the shoes cushioning is starting to break down anyway. The Enduro-sole probably isn't for everyone but I hope they don't discontinue this product.

I've sold, and purchased, and used (hiking, running, cycling, skiing, work, and casual footwear) countless pairs of insoles (footbeds) over the past 25 years, and in my opinion Montrail is simply the best. The self-adjusting material is a miracle: it acquires an impression of your toes, of the ball of your foot, and the exact shape of your heel, but it has the right density to stop compressing beyond a certain amount, so that the whole thing doesn't go flat. You end up with custom support that's not as good as $120 professionally made insoles or $300 orthotics, but way way better than anything else in the $40-$50 price range. The adjusting material can be activated by heat, or you can just wear them in over about a week.

The real kicker is the combination of self-adjusting support and the firm plastic outer heel cup which extends into just the right amount of firmer support through about a half to 2/3 of the arch. Superfeet's $45 insoles have the plastic heel cup and arch support (it's their best feature) but they don't have self-adjusting foam. Other brands leave it to just a bigger thicker lump of foam to support the arch and that's not nearly as good as a plastic bridge that can flex and leave room for a small amount of air part of the time, rather than just stuff the arch with foam.

The grid of little holes punched through the forefoot area isn't just a gimmick: they (a) provide a place for sand, tiny pebbles, and lint to go temporarily so that those materials are not moving around freely in the shoe; (b) provide a minor amount of air flow-through which actually does help to a degree with avoiding athlete's foot and toe blisters; and (c) still are pretty easy to clean out. I just poke the holes out once in a while with a pencil or pen.

One other thing: I don't know what Montrail uses for the smell, and I'm not saying it smells wonderful, it's more kind of industrial, but it smells a lot better than smelly feet AND it's very very durable. I have had pairs of these still smell the same newish smell for months, and that's pretty hard to accomplish.

I bought these inserts for arch support when I run. I have used other inserts but none work as well as these.

My Podiatrist sold me a pair of these to help relieve my Plantar Facitis. They gave so much relief that I purchase a second pair from Amazon. Now I don't have to keep switching them between shoes and boots. Am considering getting another pair for my lace up moccasins which I wore all last weekend at a Living History event.
