My wife and I purchased these shoes for a bike tour in Europe and were very pleased with the comfort and convience of the shoes which are easy to walk and even run in, yet great bike shoes. We traveled in these shoes in case our baggage got lost and TSA didn't have any trouble with the cleat mounts in the Xray. They are so comfortable that we didn't bring other hiking shoes and they even worked for running on off-the-bike days. The water proofing worked well on a particularily rainy day. The shoes fit our orthodics well. The shoes do run small as other reviewers have noted so order the next size up.

I have tied about 7 different traditional road bike cleat shoes from $90 to $300 all in the right size, and all of them felt either weird on the feet or heavy. These X Alp instead feel light and natural. In more than 500 miles I have put on them I haven't suffered any bruises or cramping or feet pain. They are also useful to walk the bike almost like regular shoes, and are nicely built and designed. These are your allies, not something you have to get used to.

I'm new to running so I guess I'm no expert here, but there are several things I love about this shoe.

-it's water resistant, yes it is

-very structured; cradles my foot

-isn't too heavy

-feels substantial

-for all these reasons is comfortable

-stay-in-place laces (they're coated with something, so they don't come untied.

I don't think it's water resistant at all. To me, water proof means you can dump water on it and water resistant means it should take a light rain or walking through wet grass. I've had wet feet several times. That being said, this is a comfy durable shoe that gets worn almost every day.
