My problem: the cut is very different between the shoes. Most New Balance have a squarish toe box, which fits my foot well. The 1521 is cut at an angle, reducing the toe box area, and just not fitting my foot. A larger shoe would not work for me, as the length and arch are a proper fit.

I don't see what all the fuss about these being sized wrong. I wear 11.5 and these fit great. It's hard to find sneakers that give my plantar fascitis feet a break and still manage to not look too dorky, but these do both. I combined these with New Balance Stability Men's / Women's Full Length Insoles to give me great support. Awesome shoes!Best Deals on New Balance Men's MO1521 Multi-Sport Shoe
These shoes are seriously undersized. I have other pairs of New B`s that fit great at size 12 but these were very small. You might want to size up or go to a NB store to try and then buy through Amazon as the price is cheaper here.Honest reviews on New Balance Men's MO1521 Multi-Sport Shoe
Similar to model 1520 (see my review here: )-Still same "smaller" New Balance last (RL-3), so order larger size!! I wear 10.5 EEEE in this shoe, but 9.5 EE in other NB running shoes.
-Untested sole life, will let you know!
-New feature: has a little D-ring, presumably for gaiter attachment. Sort of an over-the-top feature, and these D-rings "click" when you run.
Still a great shoe.

These shoes have a lot going for them. I have, over time, purchased four pairs of them. I use them for daily dog walking around the 'hood. They are very comfortable. I can wear them all day without foot fatigue. The waterproof is nice on rainy days.Pros:
They provide a lot of support through the arch and the sides.
Comfortable.
Waterproof.
Cons:
They run small. In other shoes I'm an 11 1/2 D. In these I'm a 12 1/2 4E width.
Traction: on wet cement these shoes slip. During winter rains, sidewalks can be dangerous in these (I sometimes use the street). The molded shoe bottom is better on grass and dirt. Not so much on wet surfaces.
