I bought these then promptly took them on a 40-mile backpacking trip through the Tetons. What a relief to finally make the switch from boots to a trail runner! They did great scrambling on the rocks, felt fantastic with 30lbs+ on my back, and I only got a small blister the last 2 miles of the trip. After a whole summer of hiking and backpacking, I then brought then to Turkey to hike the Lycian Way. That trail sucked, but these shoes rocked. My final trip was to the Wind River Range on a 60-mile backpacking trip. They were still great, but after 800+ miles, they were losing their grip, so it's time for another pair. I don't know if they are the best backpacking shoes, but after years of uncomfortable heavy boots that constantly gave me blisters and made my feet go numb, these are like heaven, and I just ordered another pair. P.s., don't let the stupid sales people try to talk you out of waterproof boots. They have been indispensable to me over my travels. As far as fit goes, I always thought I was a size 7-7 1/2 in shoes, but was a size 8 in these.

I have yet to wear these hiking, but I have worn them on longer walks around town. Thus far, I can say that they provide some ankle stability without being overly constrictive. I wish the foot-bed was a bit softer, but they are comfortable nonetheless.

I just received these and have not used in a trail or running setting yet. They are very comfortable and well fitting. I especially like how they fit around the ankle for stability and to prevent any rocks from getting into the shoe. These are my first trail sneakers and I look forward to using them.

I wore these for the first time just out at a street festival. There is a stiff part of the construction that hits the outside of my right ankle right where that bone is. I'm trying to decide if this is a matter of needing to be "worn in" or if I should just return them. The left shoe has the same construction but it doesn't seem as pronounced. The trick is if I wear these hiking to wear them in, and it doesn't get better, they will probably be too dirty to return. Wonder if anyone else has had this issue?

these are the third different style of Montrail shoes I own and are my favorite over all i've ever owned. Fit and comfort right out of the box for all activities, which include long hikes and running trails. Plenty of toe room and support with NO issues for fit for my size 7 1/2. LOVE THEM and will buy this brand from here on out!!!
