I'm a trail runner coming from the MT101 and I loved them. When buying the MT110 I was expecting similar quality but with some improvements. But what I experimented was:
1. The Rock Stop sole on the Mt110 is a bit lighter than the one used for the MT101. With this they lose some protection respecting the previous model. This also means that you get more feeling on what you are stepping on. I actually like more the Rock Stop solution of the MT101.
2. The default width "D" for these shoes (MT110) is more narrow than the same width on the MT101. They squeezed my feet and even on short runs (10km) my toe got a bit hurt. This problem went away when I bought the MT110 on 2E width.
3. The material of the shoe is too soft. I run on rough trails and just after my first works out of 15km the sole started to be burnt out and the sole extension that comes up at the front of the shoe started to come unstuck. Thinking that it might was because of some manufacturing defects I purchased another pairs, but they got same issues.
4. Because of 3) I contacted NB customer support service asking for a solution to my broken shoes but they do not do any support in Spain. I'm actually quite disappointed on this matter since I really expend lot of money on NB products.
That been said, I'm actually running on the new balance MT110, they still give me the best feeling on my mountain runs and for now they are the best "minimal" shoes for the kind of trails that we have here.
I'm not sure why NB doesn't market these with the "Minimus" name but these are about as minimal as a trail shoe comes. There is little to no drop and no foot insert but the padding on the inside is very comfortable. The upper is made out of a vinyl-like material which makes them quite durable and the vent holes make them very breathable.
Along with a bunch of training miles I have now taken them through three 5k mud run / obstacle courses and plan to take them through at least one more this year. These provide a ton of grip on pavement, grass, dirt, roots, and any obstacles. They fit like a glove and stay on through water, mud, and anything else thrown your way. Because of the material and the vent holes in the toe they even drain water very well after trudging through a pool or creek. One downside though is that same holes that make them breathable and drainable also let in finer dirt and sand.
I see people at these events throwing their shoes away on the spot because they are ruined by the mud and water but my MT110's are still going strong. After each time I beat them up I just spray them off with water and maybe lightly go over them with a small brush and they are good to go.
Note: If you are looking for a comfy shoe for bumming around the house, wearing around town, or mowing the lawn then these are not for you. These shoes fit like a glove and are made to be worn barefoot. To me they are only comfortable while running and as soon as I am done it feels great to peel them off.
Foam tread under arch is very soft and wears fast, but not really used for the type of running that these are designed for.
I am just disappointed at the quick wear on the sole, it was visible after my first 4 mile run.

I was looking for a cheaper pair of shoes to wear for mud / obstacle runs (Rugged Maniac, Warrior Dash, etc.). I didn't want to spend a lot so I wouldn't care so much if they got ruined. Especially for the price, I have really been pleasantly surprised with these shoes. They are extremely light, comfortable, and durable. Fit right at my size 12. Feels comfy, break over toes is just right. Traction is excellent, sole protects enough on sharp rocks.
