I usually run in the Kayano and Trabuco and was excited about getting this shoe for going out in the snow. The problem is that the toe box is a lot smaller than the other 2 shoes mentioned. It appears that Asics did not account for the volume that adding the gore-tex lining would take up. Also I was getting a weird pulling sensation across the big toe down towards the inner ball of my foot with each step.

I was really excited when I saw these shoes; gortex and they were ASICS. I placed the order and was very disappointed. I've been wearing nothing but ASICS running shoes for the past 5 years and was surprised that the GT-2170 G-TX was a 'let-down'. When the shoes arrived, I immediatly tried them on only to discover that the width of the shoe was very narrow and materials seem to be of poor quality. My feet were not comfortable and the cushion seem to be 'sub-par' compared to my ASICS Nimbus. After 5 minutes of walking (indoor carpet), my feet were starting to feel sore. I returned the shoes for refund and will be looking at other ASICS models...something comparable to my Nimbus running shoes.

Don't be confused i am Ilicia's husband reviewing the men's sneaker!....Let me first say that the style of these sneakers is awesome. They look great and Darn it, I feel cool when they're on my feet! And They have pretty good water resistance. Great for the rainy day or the accidental puddle stomp. When I first Dawned these sneakers the cushioning inside felt like micro fiber. Awesome! So I thought. I wore them just to break them in and they felt great but then, I started to run with them on...The microfiber cushioning became like an oven, then feeling more like a hot wet sponge squishing around my sole. I almost immediately felt blisters forming. These Sneaks might be better in sub zero temperatures. I dunno. The ankle support was also lacking. I thought for 116 bucks that these would be the end all running shoe. I was disappointed. Goes to show you; sometimes more expensive does not mean the best. I will go back to the regular 2170's. They were great but the GTX did not live up to the price tag! On a positive note great going out walking around shoe!

Bought these shoes because I was looking at dual-sided pedals for my road bike (Cannondale CAAD8). I live in a busy urban area where clipping in is not always an option or the wisest idea in stop-and-go / constantly fear-for-your-life defensive circumstances. I already have a set of Shimano Ultegra racing pedals and SPD-SL cleats, but these weren't very practical for every day use.

These shoes absolutely met my expectations!

My criteria:

Comfortable: check. Not quite as light or firm as carbon shoes, but please for $71.33 (my purchase price through Amazon, $30 cheaper than any big box retailer had them), try and find a better value for all-purpose biking.

Good fit: check. As mentioned by previous reviewers, these run small for some reason. You definitely want room for your feet to swell during a ride, so do not buy your 'correct' size based on these sizing charts. I normally wear an EU 44 dress shoe / US 10 10.5 athletic shoe depending on the brand. I went with an EU 45 for these shoes and they fit like a dream with no heel lift during rides when velcro is down correctly.

Recessed cleats and treads for walking: check. These are great for walking around after hopping off my bike without the annoying click/clack and slip/slide with my racing shoes/cleats. I hope to never have to hike my bike in these, but they would be more than up to the task.

Easy to clip in, clip out: check. I went with the SPD SH-56 multi-directional cleats on these shoes and everything works as expected. The cleats seemed to come loose after the first few rides, but a few additional tightenings and they seemed fine.

durable: check.

Compatible with SPD SH-56 (multi-directional) and SH-51 (uni-directional) cleats.

These are great shoes. I use the for spin class so I may not be their best critic but I will say that they do run small and correlating the size from US to European makes matters more confusing. One reviewer suggests that you take your US size and go 1/2 size larger then convert to EU. I did this and they still feel a little tight not unbearable but not the most comfortable either. If I were doing this again I would go a full size larger and then convert to EU and select that either that or go somewhere locally to determine my European size before ordering online. Hope this helps.

This is the first pair of cycling shoes I have owned. They work very well and definitely improve my performance on the bike. However, they do not keep your feet warm on cold morning rides. Also, make sure the screws are very tight on the cleats. If they come loose, it is extremely difficult to become unattached from the pedal check the tightness of the screws frequently.

And the size may run a slight bit below stated size. Not being used to the EU sizing, I ordered what it stated and they are a tad small. They fit okay but not enough room to double up on socks for the cold morning rides.

I just received them and even though I ordered a EU size too big the shoes we still too small. I wear a 12 in normal shoes and had to order a 47! This is a pretty bad manufacturing problem.

The build quality is great though and I will be ordering another pair.

Watch out for non Amazon sellers as they will likely make you pay to return or exchange. I usually make sure items are actually from Amazon or Zappos.

These run about 1/2 size smaller than most running shoes, but I knew that already. This is my third pair of the Ultra Race 3.0. This is probably the last of them as the style changed with a different lacing mechanism.

These are ultra comfortable shoes to wear. I am not a triathlete, but I walk a lot and these are fantastic shoes. They fit like a glove and I don't have to adjust the lacing.

This is my third pair of Nike Shox. I love them, comfortable to wear all day as well as run a few miles in. If I was planning on doing a half-marathon or longer I would go get a custom fit shoe from a running store but for everyday wear and morning runs these are great! I usually wear these shoes everyday, 7 days a week and they last about two years before I either have to replace them because they are falling apart or they are just too dirty.

This is 8th pair of Nikes in 15 years. The last better than your average sneaker. My knees and joints are getting there so I wanted something with superior cushioning. I guess this is as cushioned as the come.

Performance 8/10 As usual I get a half size larger on Nikes because they are a snug fit for me. The contours are great and wrap well. Heel guard isn't too stiff and is flexible. The shox feel really good but need some getting used to as far as balance. Not like you'l keel over, but it's slightly different. Good airflow that keeps it comfortable too.

Price and appearance 7/10Not a big fan of the exposed shox but I guess that's what makes the show. Feels like I'm on stilts but otherwise not an issue. Price is average, and is usually worth the durability.

In general, this is a good walking shoe if you need the extra bounce or cushion.

I bought these shoes after trying them on at a department store in New Jersey.

These shoes integrate decades worth of Nike technology making the smoothest ride that I have ever found in a shoe. (I know this sounds like an advertisement from Nike but I assure you that I'm just a really big fan of this shoe). With that aside, I think that all the research sure does pay off. I'm going to give you a short description of each technology.

Shox these four cylindrical columns at the back of the shoe provide great support without the added weight of a heavy sole.

Air each Shox has a small, extremely-durable air bubble encapsulated within the column in order to provide great impact resistance.

Lunarlon (Lunar) Nike claims that this technology was developed with NASA. whether true or not, the Lunarlon is a foam that lines the bottom of the shoes. It makes the shoe super light and provides excellent protection from running surfaces.

This combination of these technologies make the shoe such a joy to wear. The only downside to the shoe is that the mesh upper may wear out quickly, but the superior breathability makes this downside worth it.

FYI I use these shoes mainly for cross-training (lifting weights, light jogging, calisthenics, etc.)

I love these shoes! I am actually thinking about purchasing a second pair before I can't find them. I love ASICS for their supreme comfort and functionality, but I sometimes have trouble finding ASICS that are aesthetically appealing to the eye. I love the look of these shoes and bought them primarily for wearing them with jeans and snowy, muddy weather in general. I've been wearing them for several weeks and they have been great. The comfort is among the best of any shoe I've owned (as all ASICS are) and I really like the way they look with jeans. Critical information: I am 6'3" and weigh 230...a pretty big guy. I regularly hike segments of the Appalachian Trail and do so in trail runners.

I bought these shoes due to the ASICS reputation and the agressive tread, thinking it would be a great shoe for me for the trail. Right out of the box, the fit and feel is GREAT. In 152 miles I put on the shoe in the first 9 days of ownership, I never got a blister or even a hot spot. Great fitting shoe. However, within a few hours on the trail, cracks began to form at the base of the lugs. Within four days (only about 60 miles), the second lug from the back on both shoes separated and began to tear away, eventually tearing off, on both shoes (in spite of trying to use duct tape and gorilla glue to keep them stable). Once that lug was gone, the large lug on the back was unprotected and began to tear away. By the sixth day on the trail (about 100 miles), I had more duct tape than lugs. It made for a very sketchy last 50 miles, wondering if I was going to be barefoot before I got back to civilization!

I loved the shoes and, perhaps, my weight (230) plus the weight of my backpack (30 lbs), combined with the rocky, rough, and sometimes steep terrain of the AT were too much for the shoes. They do not advertise a load rating...but I'd be willing to say that, if you weigh over 180...and/or if you do any trail running or hard backpacking...these are probably NOT the shoes to get. If you're a lightweight and/or just plan to use these around the house, they do feel superb.

I got this shoes last week, on MOnday, just in time for my 10K race on Sunday. Had just about enough time to break into them. From my first run with them I felt like I was stepping on clouds, they feel so soft on each step, but its not only that, when I did my sprints I felt that each bounce really propelled me. Yesterday I finished my 10K race and my feet felt great and comfy. I was a fan of the Pegasus 26 and had a short enchantment with the Lunar Glides, but these running shoes are really something. Outstanding.

let it be known i'm rocking out to george michael right now--so i am thrilled to write a positive review for this fine product.

my dad suffers from overpronation. except he didn't known of his foot condition until recently when i made him aware. i believe my exact words were "dad, your feet are totally janky." he often wore his shoes out in certain way: the medial (inner) side of his shoes were ground-down to not much of anything. and he suffered from sore feet.

then one day, daddy came home with new sneakers (the catalyst..a turning point). he bragged to me and mom that they only cost $16. they were hideous shoes. so...since father's day was coming upon us, we needed to rid the house of the eyesore dad called his "hot new sneaks," and i love problem-solving...i decided to find a solution on the interwebs resulting in new shoes for dad.

i researched his problem and found a name for his foot condition (overpronation). i learned that overpronators need "motion control" and "stability"--you must find these words in your shoe product description. most shoes that address motion control and stability are very expensive. and they look straight-up geriatric.

these shoes are neither expensive nor geriatric. he loves them to death and wears them every day. so i win, and the rest of my stupid siblings have a lot of catching-up to do.

I purchased these shoes after owning pairs of both Tempos and TT's. I use zoots for sprint and Olympic tris as well as normal training. these are significantly more narrow and tightly fit. I think it has something to do with the lack of laces, but i always ran the others without the bungee laces anyway. i had to order my Swift FS a full size larger than i normally would and Ive only ran a handful of miles in them but they are still really constricting. I'm hoping this will go away as it does in many slip-on shoes and they become very comfortable.

the 4 stars is for the sizing inconsistency and seeming lower shoe for your money feel that the others have. i would probably not buy again.

Wore this shoe on my vacation where I did a lot of walking. I usually have to wear orthotics due to flat arches to prevent my feet from hurting. I was able to wear this shoe without my orthotics and did not experience any discomfort or pain in my feet with all of the walking activities I used them for. I will likely get more of this shoe in different colors because not only do they feel good but they look cool also! They do fit snuggly but I expected that due to other customer comments, so wear them with thin socks or without socks to ensure a comfortable fit.

I started a few weeks ago with these in black. I have endless problems with shoes ... I like the short boot because my orthotics work more stably. This is the FIRST boot/shoe I have really, really liked from day one in many years. I liked them so much I got the brown ones, too.

Do not expect these to be serious hikers. They'll do in a light pinch, but they're really a knockabout casual boot-shoe. And they're verrrrry good at that.

These are designed to be used with the liners provided ... very pronounced arch support, heavily cushioned heel. They work well enough that I can cheat and skip the orthotics if I need to. Having been warned at EMS that I was supposed to use the Chaco inserts, I experimented anyway. My take is that Red Wing liners and orthotics work just fine.

The fit is so consistent that if I dressed in the dark I'd have no idea if the left was black and the right brown.

Shoes and boots and feet are idiosyncratic; I wear hiking boots (usually Merrels) pretty much 365. These work incredibly on MY feet ... and they look casual-good, too. (The black ones have grey sole sides. Why? I have no idea ... within black would've looked better. In a manner of speaking, the browns are better looking brown boots than the blacks are black boots. But both better looking than most hiking boots.)

These boots are designed extremely well much better than boots costing 3x as much (Wolverine, Merrel, Frye...I've tried those). Chaco is a favorite brand of mine for sandals and they deserve applause for applying their design to boots. I've worn them now for 3 month, daily and never had a single complaint. They're one of the easiest boots to put on and take off.

I like the new Chaco Tedinhos but I would not classify it as much of a hiking boot. It's great for kicking around, okay for shoveling snow but not a real hiker. The soles are very much like the Chaco sandals which would allow you to go hiking but not protect the bottoms of your feet very well. I will not be using these for hiking.

Nice materials. Comfortable. Good looking. But stick to the well known hiking brands if you're going hiking.

Very good trail shoe. Very light, great spiky like tread on the bottom, and a lot of motion control. Pretty good cushion at least enough for me. The one thing I do love about this shoe is that it sits low to the ground allowing you to really plow through trails without worrying about turning your ankle. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because this shoe comes a 1/2 size to big which was a small disappointment but other than that so far so good. I will write another review if I discover anything else about the shoe (good or bad).

So I use the Kinvara's for road races and training, and recently ran a pretty rough xc trail race and found I was in much need of a trail running shoe. I absolutely LOVE the feel of the Kinvara, the low profile drop from heel to forefoot and ultra-lightweight have made it one of my favorite running shoes I have ever worn, but as it was made for the road it lacks in traction. In comes the Peregrine, I actually went to one of my local shoe stores and tried them on to see how the sizing compared to different reviews and I will say that I usually wear a 12 in just about everything and had to go up to a size 12.5 in these. The feel of these shoes is fantastic, they have the same low drop as the Kinvara's and are really lightweight too! The sole is awesome, very grippy and plus the shoe just looks sweet to boot. I have been doing a lot more trail running now that I have these bad boys in my arsenal, and have recommended them to all my friends and fellow trail runners. All in all a very very good trail running shoe.

I ordered this shoe after a lot af research, and arrived after 4 days (To Norway). They fit perfectly and is true to it's size. But over to the important part. On the track they do not dissapoint. They got a great grip on almost all surfaces, and I've never felt so safe on wet and muddy surfaces. The shoes are not waterproof in any way, but they dry really fast, as long as you got the right socks. They also protect your feet, and roots and sharp rocks don't hurt. Even the toes are well protected. Recomended for every trail and mountain runner!

I'm not an extremely experienced runner (completed one half marathon in Feb 2011, before buying these,) but I will say that these shoes are comfortable, very lightweight, and have made me want to run faster. They seem to have good grip on trails and provide sufficient cushion, without being as heavy, structured, and supportive as most running shoes.

If you plan to do most of your running on pavement, opt for the Saucony ProGrid Kinvara Running Shoe instead.

I bought these as a lightweight trail shoe to complement my Kinvara 2s. They are pretty similar except the fit is more narrow and they are stiff. I ran a hard 20 mile mountain run in them right out of the box. I have a pair of Hokas that I use for racing, but as a generic mountain trainer they are better than my LaSportiva Crosslites which have too much traction for the gravel / fire-road sections of trail that I encounter on daily use.

These shoes give plenty of support and I use them primarily in the gym on weight day. However, these shoes run really, really small. All of my adult life, over 30 years, I've worn size 10, medium width. Now, with Nike and Adidas shoes, I've had to increase to over a whole size. All the athletic shoes run small and narrow. I tried these shoes at size 11 and they barely fit my feet. Either my pituitary gland is out of whack or they've moved their companies to another third world country with sizing issues. From now on I'm going to a local store and try on any athletic shoe first just to see how the sizes run.

I bought this shoe to use on the treadmill so I'm not risking getting outside dirt in the works and messing it up. As with the Saucony Outlaws I got this shoe fits great, has lots of padding, a great tread that can handle the street and the trail and is a high top to provide that needed ankle support. I like this shoe so much I'm thinking of getting another pair to wear as a regular daily shoe to pair up with blue jeans.

Beware! The air soles in this shoe, the Air Max 2012 and 2011 are very prone to failure! I've returned 4 pairs out of 6 total and Nike replaced them all, but it's not free to ship to them. I'm told by a Nike Customer representative that the Air Max 2013 has a totally redesigned air unit (the old was too stiff and failed regularly), and sadly this one is based on the 2012 design. I put them on and always feel the air bubles for firmness given my high failure rates! These things can go flat just sitting, you don't have to wear them for it to happen, so check carefully and if you have a failure (all of mine failed on the left shoe only for some reason) be sure to go to Nike and arrange for a return authorization!

Nike issues a certificate good only on their site, and you may not get the same model or color combo as Nike changes colors faster than I change underwear! Amazon is always a good way to return items like this and you'll get good customer service from them as I have when I've experienced issues with ANYTHING I've bought here.

Just be understanding of the fact that you may not be able to replace the shoe with the exact same colors.

When the air units are intact they are incredible shoes to wear.... but....
