The shoes are super cute. The laces are very slippery and they don't stay tied all that well, but I am sure once they get some good wear they will tie just fine.

I received these shoes and he wore them about a month to break them in before a big trip, went on the trip and two weeks later they were falling apart. He went to England and i guess with all the rain there they could not hold up. Coming apart on the sides. It was almost like the glue gave way or either they were not put together well at the seams. Never buy this brand again. You would think you would get more for the money I paid.

Was looking for a shoe that would work well for me by indoors and outdoors. I am very pleased with this product. It is well made, looks good, and is fitting better and better the longer I wear it. I guess I should be out running on a trail but haven't done that yet.

Bought these for my boyfriend. The fabric along the sole started to "rip-out" I guess you would say. Contacted Amazon. They sent out a new pair immediately!!! I was very pleased with the service. He loves the shoes and was disappointed when the fabric started to tear for unknown reason. He said they are comfortable and enjoys wearing them. Thanks for the prompt service and quick response on returns and shipping. Awesome service! :)

This is perhaps the best trail running shoe I've run in. I've had a lot of shoes over the years(since 71)and these are great. First, the fit is awesome, very stable even on technical trails, forefoot is nice and wide-makes a good plant, and very cushioned ride. No need to spend over $100 for a good trail running shoe try these.

I've been a big fan of Hi-Tec for several years, and have owned several pair of their hiking boots. This is the first pair of trail runners I've purchased from them, having just worn out my New Balance.

Pro: Light weight, good support, good construction, and good traction. Con: Narrow fit; foot bed a bit stiff.

I have a narrow foot, and this shoe gives me adequate room. Anyone with other than a narrow foot will need to go with wider options if available. Right now its winter and I'm wearing mid-weight wool socks. Heavier weight would be too tight. In summer, a lighter pair of sock will make for a better all around fit. I've worn them now for nearly a month and they are more comfortable than when I first put them on. I still might choose to replace the sock liner with something more comfortable.

Bottom Line: There are better trail running shoes out there. The company's website does not list them, so any you buy will be closeouts. If you can pick them up for $50 or so, and you have a narrow foot, be a bit patient and they'll probably work for you. If you want something very comfortable right out of the box, go elsewhere.

I bought these after trying many other shoes online by the buying-and-returning method and after I was finally at the end of my wits and patience. Since the physical stores are few-and-far between, you have to submit to this `site unseen' shopping which with shoes becomes a practical joke.

For some inexplicable reason, athletic shoe manufacturers came up with the `original' idea to change the standard sizes on us...buy a 9 to fit an 8 or buy an 8 to fit your 9.

By the same token, I decided that from now on after all these years of being 5'4" tall, I will be 6'8"... why not?

Well, I guess it was worth the search and pain, because these shoes literally hug your overworked, tired pugs. I use them for walking 3-5 miles a day. I'm a bit over the slim line, not a spring chick anymore, so I needed a cushy, pampering sweetheart of a shoe for serious all-season walking.

I took them out of the box, put my orthotics in and then my bare feet. Victory!

Walked that very first day in them, no breaking-in necessary, just utter bliss.

I used to run many years ago too, but problems with knees and foot surgeries have closed that avenue for me. These let your foot do its walking, just gently protecting your stride, no shouting, no rubbing, no clenching. That's why I think these are also excellent for running.

When you're young and trim it's easy, everything fits pretty much like a glove. But the real challenge is to make the not-so-trim and not-so-young comfortable and I think these shoes do.

They're very light, soft and flexible, roomy toe-box, easy to put on and take off. If you're always in a hurry like me and you slip in them lace tied, make sure you use a shoehorn to keep your shoes longer. It takes 10 seconds more but it could mean 6 months longer of shoe life. (I know because I've ruined most of my shoes by crushing the back...).

Still, a half size larger is a better choice so your pedicure won't hit the front or to give you a bit more room if your foot is wider.

A few suggestions to the Brooks people: The shiny patent leather trim was a no-no... It's a running shoe not a night at the Opera.

Also, the arch support needs to be more pronounced, otherwise you have to add to it.

On the positive side, it's great that the shoe is a basic black, it keeps looking new longer and it goes with any slimming black walking outfit. The best of it is that it's waterproof, so you can venture out for a walk/run in the rain.

I can say that this is definitely a user-friendly shoe. `Hi, I'm your new shoe. Can we walk?'

I recieved these shoes so quickly. I ordered them on Tuesday and they arrived the following Friday. In my book, that is super speedy. So Thanks!

The shoes themselves are exactly what I wanted. They provide tons of support and the arch height is perfect. I am an aerobics instructor, so I am always trying to find shoes that I can use to teach in, but can be used to run in as well.

The color is exactly as it looks on Amazon.com.

I did order a half-size bigger than my true size, as I read that they run small. That is true. They fit perfectly just a half-size bigger.

Thanks for being awesome Brooks!!!

I bought these last fall in hopes that they would keep my feet relatively dry while walking the dog in the wet Seattle winter. The fit seems true to size; I usually wear an 8.5 in dress shoes, 9 in street shoes, and size up to a 9.5 for running shoes, and the 9.5 Ghost GTX fit me well a little stiff for the first couple wears, but softened up nicely.

They functioned well for the first month or so, reliably keeping my feet dry on damp pavement, through shallow puddles and wet grass (unless it was a downpour and water came in over the tops, of course, but that's not the shoe's fault). However, after a month or so of daily wear I started noticing water seeping in around the toe box and balls of my feet, usually when walking in wet grass. This continued to slowly get worse until now they aren't waterproof for more than a few minutes. They also take FOREVER to dry out... even with insoles removed and shoes unlaced/opened up, it is a couple of days before they are dry again! You can imagine that this has created a very special stink that none of my other non-waterproof running shoes have (they also dry faster, by the way more breathable I guess!). These shoes also show a surprising amount of wear around the heel cup.

For $130, I expected much better. I will not buy them again I would rather have wet feet in my regular sneakers than pay extra for wet AND stinky feet!

Yay! Partial redemption for New Balance with the 1080V2, after blowing it big-time with its predecessor, the 1080 (which we'll call 'V1' to avoid confusion).

New Balance had a SWEET thing going before the 1080V1, namely the 1060 Series (i.e. NB 1060 through 1064)... which were all more or less awesome shoes. Terrific shock absorption, great fit, very neutral, made in the USA, came in widths. Even usually had a few 'grown up' color schemes. 1060 Series was pretty much EVERYTHING you'd want in a shoe, or close.

Then New Balance decided to 'fix' what didn't need fixing. Result was the crap-tastic 1080V1.

The V1 somehow managed to be a neutral cushioning shoe that was neither neutral nor cushioning. The fit was still good, but the shoe's tendency to roll your foot strongly to the outside was ridiculous for an allegedly 'neutral' shoe, and this only got worse with age as the foam broke down. They also felt stiff and downright 'weird'. This was the shoe that sent me back to Nike briefly.

But Nike screwed the pooch too... the Vomeros I had were superior cushioning-wise, but they were also very high and narrow in the last (i.e. were 'ankle-breakers'), even in their allegedly 'wide' width (I take a 2E). Nike apparently likes to save money by using the same last in different-width shoes, only the uppers get wider, apparently. New Balance, on the other hand, will usually give you a wider last/platform in their wide shoes, as the shoe gods and common sense intended.

So okay, let's give New B another chance. Will they screw it up twice?

1080V2 comes out. Cushioning is improved over the 1080, though still not quite back to 1060 Series standard. But they're 'cushiony enough', and I like the low ride height, which helps keep me from turning an ankle on potholes/ruts and the like. Fit is generally good, tight enough in the heel to prevent slippage, yet there's plenty of width in the toe box... exactly the combination you want. Shoe is noticeably light too, hopefully this does not have any major implications for durability, but it sure feels nice.

But most of all, the 1080s actually do feel very *neutral* this time around. Am crossing my fingers that it stays this way through the life-cycle of the shoe. Have a feeling it will.

Criticisms/areas for improvement?

* They may have taken the whole 'fitted' thing too far in the ankle area. The collar of the shoe is quite aggressively/tightly fitted to you... some may like this, but it definitely annoyed me. Size-wise, I can wear either a 9.5 or a 10, and I chose the larger shoe just to get some relief from the aggressive collar. With the size-10s it's no longer an issue for me, and I can definitely see others choosing to buy these a bit large too. With the V1s and the 1060 series shoes, I was wearing the 9.5s.

* In the forefoot area, the V2s nail it in terms of width, but the amount of *vertical* room inside the shoe @the forefoot is a bit lacking. Again, another overly-aggressive stab at making the shoe extremely 'fitted' to you. And again, another reason to go a tiny bit large when buying this shoe.

* NB could up the cushioning slightly. These feel more 'bouncy' than plush, as if they used a more resilient foam with lots of 'recoil'. Is fairly cushiony even so, but the bouncy foam seems slightly harder on my knees than the plusher shoes I've worn. However, 'more plush' shouldn't be done if it will turn the shoe into a tall, high ride-height 'ankle-breaker' -type deal. But if it's just a matter of the shoes weighing a half-ounce more...

* Could use the tiniest bit more arch support. Are a tad bit too 'flat' front-to-back. Even a significantly inferior (but popular) shoe such as the Nike Pegasus gets this more right than the 1080 does, last I checked anyway.

* Needs a color option for grown-ups. Yes, the silver & navy color scheme is that, but it's only readily available in the UK, not the US. The three color schemes that *are* available here are varying degrees of 'almost, but not quite'. C'mon New Balance, many of your buyers are over 30 and aren't afraid to look it. In other words, you don't have to be a 'Nike' about this... you aren't hip, and that's what's hip about you. Just ONE fully grown-up color scheme, that's all we ask.

(editJust saw the color choices on the new 1080 V3, and sadly NB seems to have ignored the advice in the above paragraph... all 3 color schemes are varying degrees of getting whomped with the ugly stick. What's so hard about that ONE grown-up color choice, NB? Some of us not only run in our shoes but also like to go to work in them too. Sigh.)

Points for improvement aside, the V2's still a worthy shoe overall, and a vast improvement over the V1. I'm happy I got 'em in fact, I'm now on my third pair, and I may order a couple pairs more before they're sold out (in part to avoid the awful V3 color schemes =o ).

And if future 1080 versions fine-tune the 'fitted feel' and cushioning for the better, the unthinkable may actually occur... we might not miss the amazing 1060 Series anymore.

Well, at least until New Balance again 'fixes' what doesn't need fixing, of course. =\

I Purchased the 1080 V2 shoes at the same time as New Balance 610s. I intended the 610s for casual wear and the 1080s for running. The 610s crapped out within a month and a half (see my Amazon review). The 1080 V2s are AWESOME! I purchased these for running and they met the challenge. I'm 6'3" 240 lbs, a neutral gait runner. The 1080s fit great, were plenty wide for my super wide feet, were lightweight, and provided great cushioning. Perhaps my most favorite running shoe ever! 5 months in I still love them.

I love New Balance products, so it pains me to give this one three stars. Although it seems to be made well enough...the sides by the outside of the balls of my feet "pooch out" when running or exercising in them.

I offer that these may be too lightly constructed. However, in all fairness am I a "big boy", so these may work just fine for a smaller, lighter person.

The fit was great though.

Having bought over 20 pairs of New Balance 926/927/928 shoes over the past several years for daily power walking, I have a lot of experience with this particular shoe, which is especially suited for wide feet and motion control to handle walking issues.

The 928 has much more in common with the 926 than the 927, and that is a good thing. The 927 was clearly designed for longer feet and had a more elongated fit than its immediate predecessor. It also required a considerably longer break-in period than the 926. The 928 does a much better job being true to length, although the initial wear is surprisingly tight in the toe box (I wear 6E shoes). You may want to break in the shoes without orthotics before attempting to walk with them in a brand new pair.

The shoe is less stiff than the 927 as well, which means a more comfortable fit, although you will need a break-in period with this shoe just like any other.

Shoe fit and stability are both well-regarded, but there is a manufacturing concern that started about a year ago and carries forward into the 928, and it's unfortunate.

For those using orthotics or have a particularly bulky foot, initial wear with the 928 is going to be exceptionally tight. But as the shoe breaks in, those of us with wide feet will begin to see the shoe walls stretch outwards slightly to better accommodate our feet.

Unfortunately, this spread also causes the top of the shoe to push downwards, applying additional pressure along the top of the foot. Unfortunately, where the tongue of the shoe is attached and sewed into the rest of the shoe, there is a slight internal ridge and pressure point. This contributes to even more constriction along the sew point on the top of the shoe. That can be a point of friction, and it ended up causing a blister and considerable pressure around the base of the big toe about 1/2 inch above the top eyelet. Unfortunately, loosening the laces cannot correct this issue.

This issue may only occur on one foot and/or may not affect everyone, but slight manufacturing inconsistencies like imprecise or sloppy sewing seems to be the problem. These inconsistencies have grown in the past 12 months, leading me to wonder if New Balance has reduced quality control standards in its offshore manufacturing plants.

If you encounter this issue, it is likely to show up only after a week or more of regular wear, by which time most dealers will no longer take returns. But New Balance has replaced defective shoes when returned (ask for a postpaid return label when contacting them) to their customer service department. Considering the cost of these shoes, do not hesitate to return any pair that exhibits manufacturing inconsistencies or defects.

[Update 3/2013]:

Have been in the 928's for several months now, I have to downgrade them another star at the five month mark. I have to say these shoes are pretty hard on your feet as what little cushioning there is breaks down as they age. I've been starting to experience some knee issues, which is almost always attributable to the shoes I wear. During some periods over the winter, I actually switched back to my old school 926 shoes, which were more comfortable for me after three years than a five-month old pair of 928s.

My theory on this is that the shoe 'last' was changed after they retired the 926 model. Starting with the 927, the shoes grew slightly longer, and the way you roll in and out of each step changed with it. The shoe materials used also appear to have suffered from cost-cutting over the last few years.

For example, the 928 lacks the the rollbar quality of the 926. The sole of the shoe also suffers from design shortcuts, making it very unforgiving as you push off and land. Without appropriate cushioning that lasts, the result is a lot of energy transferred to your knees and lower back and they thank you for it by getting sore.

I also find the tread on the 928 less aggressive than earlier models, so slipping was a real concern over the winter months.

But one improved feature: the metal grommets on the two front holes for the shoelaces are a vast improvement over the cheap plastic ones on past models that often broke.

My solution to the shoe tightness reported above: a shoe extender that comes with adjustable pressure relief points I could use to attack the tight areas.

My podiatrist theorizes that another contributing factor to the pressure point problem is my tendency to supinate. Most people overpronate, so shoe manufacturers often build a lot of support into shoes to correct this issue. But supinators often get the short end, with much less support in the shoe's design. The podiatrist thinks that as I supinate, it is also forcing the shoe walls out, which brings the top of the shoe material right down on my big toe. My orthotics will have to be adjusted to compensate for this flaw, because the shoe was not designed to deal with it.

All in all, I continue to believe there is no way this shoe is worth the $125 New Balance routinely asks for it. Shop around and look for deals that bring the price closer to $90. I am seeing a disturbing trend in New Balance where the prices remain excessively high, but the quality of materials used in the shoe and the design cost cutting simply does not justify the asking price. But for those of us with 6E wide feet, there are VERY few alternatives, so we're at their mercy.

[Update 5/2013]:

The 928's I bought last fall are now effectively dead and need to be discarded. They did not get worn at all over much of the winter, so I would say I effectively got about three months of use out of these before the cheaper materials and lesser-quality construction made the shoes unwearable, even before the usual visible signs appeared on the sole that tell you a shoe needs to be replaced. The important inner-materials simply broke down rendering the shoe a potential health risk.

There were medical consequences for me as a result of wearing these shoes. The reduction in quality padding and shoe features that promote healthy foot motion were responsible for most of these. The offshore factory that produced these also delivered significant variations and inconsistency with the three pairs I purchased -unacceptable quality control failures that should not be happening at this price point.

Most of the impact of these issues will be felt while wearing these shoes as part of an exercise walking program. Casual day use may not present as much of a challenge.

It seems New Balance redesigns are now more about cost cutting and reducing the complexity of shoe construction instead of user comfort, reliability, and quality features. That is a major disappointment for those of us with exceptionally wide feet that have very limited choices.

The most important needed improvement: better padding to help redistribute landing force.

It is easy to make a stiff shoe that can a company can sell as "motion controlled," but it is more costly and complicated to build a shoe that limits motion but also encourages and facilitates a healthy and safe walking style. My earlier New Balance shoes included a rolling feature that helped you land safely on your heel and gently promote rolling forward to push off from your toes in one smooth motion. The 928s are far too stiff for this. Instead, you land hard on the heel and have to fight the shoe to roll forward and push off the ground. As you walk, the tight and unforgiving leather tops are brutal on the top of your feet, especially near the big toe.

I'm forced to conclude the 928 just has too many liabilities, and if one has an easy to fit foot, I'd recommend looking elsewhere, especially at New Balance prices. The 811's are certainly more forgiving, but you will lose some of the motion control features. I have been recently experimenting with Propet's Stability Walker as a replacement. It is also a very stiff shoe that wears differently than the 928 and could use some rollbar technology, but it is a much roomier shoe free from foot strangulation and suitable for even professional orthotic inserts.

For a long-time New Balance wearer like me there is one word to describe all this: frustrating.

It is hard enough to have only around a half dozen 6E walking shoe choices to choose from, but it is getting depressing to suspect charging top dollar for lower-grade materials is the new industry paradigm.

[Update 5/12/2013]:

Visited my local New Balance PROCARE dealer to discuss my issues with the New Balance 928. The PROCARE program connects medical professionals with dealers who often have certified pedorthists in-store to assist with analyzing walking, shoe fit, and alterations such as orthotic inserts.

While my dealer has nothing bad to say about the 928, we both agreed the updates New Balance made in this model make the shoe no longer suitable for me. We also reviewed some alternatives in the 6E width I am stuck with wearing.

First, we took a look at the Propet Stability Walker mentioned above. After about two weeks with the shoe, it is clear this is not a suitable replacement for me. It lacks a range of supporting features that assure longevity and stability, already becoming clear because it has started to break down on the sole. Propet may make a fine walkabout shoe for errands, but those with weight issues who also need a strong and stable shoe should probably look elsewhere.

We also agreed the New Balance 811 is a good comfortable soft shoe, but also not a great choice for a serious walking program if you pronate or supinate.

The good news is that I found a few more potential alternatives for those who simply find the 928 untenable:

New Balance 856 -A trainer shoe that seems more than workable for a walking program. The 856 has an enormously wide toe box, so the 6E fit is excellent -much more comfortable than the 928. It is also less stiff than the 928, which makes it less punishing. I am now walking in this shoe with a custom hard orthotic with padding. The 856 is not instant nirvana for me, however. I am still getting some knee pain, but that may be because the shoe is brand new.

New Balance 1140 -A running shoe that earns mixed reviews on Amazon. It is very pliable and roomy, but I found myself pronating a bit, and I am a major supinator. Longevity seems to be an issue with many reviewers and I was turned off by the price which can run to $130.

I went to my local shoe store ready to buy another (my third) pair of NB mw927's. I work in a home improvement center and I stand and walk on my feet all day on a contrete floor and I've measured as many as 19,000 steps with a pedometer in a day. At the store, they told me the 928's were a new updated version of the 927's so I bought them without hesitation or question as I've been so happy with the 927's. In fact, before I started using the 927's, I was suffering with severed heal pain--probably plantar fascitis (spelling?)- I used to limp all day at work and when I changed to the 927's (with an aetrex orthotic) it was like a miricle healing. So I slipped on the 928's and when to work never dreaming they wouldn't be everthing the older shoes were. To be fair, I did not have the aetrex orthotics in the new shoes, I wore them as they were right out of the box. After a few hours on my feet I could tell these didn't have near as good custioning especially to the heel as the old ones. I could definately tell a more jarring heel strike. By noon time my feet were hurting and I came home and and changed back into my old shoes. I can't believe the orthotics would contribute that much to the cusioning effect of the heel strike. So today I exchanged them for a pair of Merrell's which my brother swears by. I couldn't recommend these shoes as a replacement for the 927's.

My podiatrist recommended this sneaker to me because of my having neuropathy and it is the most comfortable footwear I have ever owned (sneaker or shoe) and I heartily recommend it.

Honest reviews on New Balance Men's MW928 Walking Shoe

I've long been a fan of New Balance walking shoes simply because they offer wide widths (EE for me) and the quality has always been excellent. About two weeks ago, I purchased this 928 in both the brown leather and the grey suede, thinking I would send one of them back to Amazon. But I'm keeping them both. The 928 has a wide toe box, so there's plenty of room there. New Balance Men's MW928 Walking Shoe Other NB shoes built on an SL-1 last have less room for toes. This 928 is made on the SL-2 last (which means wide toes). You can see lots more technical info by going to New Balance dot com. The soles of both shoes (the brown leather and the grey suede) are very cushiony and are quite suitable for anyone with knee problems. I can't understand why one other reviewer wrote that they were hard to walk in. Not sure what that means. Perhaps he has some severe leg problems. Regarding the brown leather, look carefully at the Amazon photos, and go to the New Balance web site and look at their photos. You'll see that the natural leather pieces vary slightly in color, which I think makes an attractive shoe. My brown 928s are almost black on the top of the toes, and the rest of the saddle and the heel are a slightly lighter brown, but still dark. So don't expect every piece of this natural leather to be perfectly matched with every other piece. The varying dark/light is very nicely done. Can't say enough about the comfort.

UPDATE: Wore both these shoes on a recent trip to Finland and Russia. Every day was spent visiting villages, churches, monastaries, Kremlins (yes, there's more than one), many on rough paths and cobblestone streets. Both my brown leather and my grey suede NB MW928s were VERY comfortable, and stylish enough for me to wear to the "captain's dinner" on our river cruise. This was the perfect choice for me, and I'm pleased that while they're "walking" shoes, they're stylish enough to wear almost anywhere. By the way, the "MW" in front of New Balance's style number means "Mens, Walking." The "Walking" part means this shoe has more comforting soles than their running or cross training shoes, whose soles are much more dense, and therefore, harder.

These shoes are exceptionally comfortable and well-made. I received them two days before an international trip in which I was walking extensively. These shoes have fantastic support especially for me, as I pronate and tend to walk on the outside of my soles. Even without orthotics, the shoes helped correct my gait and at the end of the day my back wasn't aching.

The fit in both length and width are spot-on. Get these shoes! You won't be disappointed.

I am writing this review for my son who is in high school track. He really likes the shoes. The form fitted shoe supports his foot. The spikes really grab the track for a quick start. They get the job done. He thinks the colors are great. He would recommend these spikes to friends.

Well I guess that I got a junk pair. They smelled weird right out of the box. I can't quite classify them "DOA" because they did what they were supposed to do.

Every runner is different. I liked these spike, but you might not. I got the black/lime green version. The price was right.

I rate them 3.5 stars.

got these shoes for track. i run just the 100 and 200 meter sprint. shoes are pretty light, i enjoy running in them. gave 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 because of shipping issues but that's probably from amazon rather than the shoe itself.

Vibram FiveFingers Men's Signa Water Shoes Review

Hello Amazon Community. I recently purchased a pair of Vibram FiveFingers Men's Signa Water Shoes, and wanted to add my take on how they fit...

First, A little about me:

Male, 6'4" (76 inches) (??? cm), 210 pounds (??? kg), wear a size 13 US shoe (Adidas 47 cm) (Nike 47.5 cm), and flat-footed (no arch)...

I bought these shoes on 2013/03/14, and have worn them on all 3 days. My experience overall has been much more positive than Nick's, but still not perfect! I got these Signas in a size 46, and they fit me perfectly (outside of a pain issue once an hour on the top of my left foot). I originally went into REI in with the expectation of picking up a size 47 since most of my athletic shoes are around 47.5 cm. Their online inventory checker said that my local store had them in stock, but they were not on the shoe wall. An associate didn't even know that they had them until looking around in the back (that's how new they were). The foot chart/measurement guide, as measured from the heel to the tip of the longest toe, had me measured somewhere around 45 centimeters actually. I tried on the 47s, but there was too much length between my toes and the tips of the shoes. The 46s fit fine, so I ran with those. Had I bought the 47s online, I would have had to return them...

Introductions aside, I'll now give my angle on some of Nick's problems:

1) Personally, I purchased these VFF Signa shoes as a pure water only shoe for aqua jogging/pool running. I don't have any expectations of excellent performance on land or in alternating wet/dry environments. I recently had a knee surgery (torn patellar tendon), and aquatic exercises will help speed up my 1 year recovery. I need shoes for running and lateral movements inside the pool, so the ultra-low profile of the VFFs will help get back my side stepping strength and quickness.

2) It can, but should not, take minutes to put FiveFingers on. Because we in 1st world countries have been wearing cushioned shoes our whole lives; we have weaker muscles, tendons & padding throughout our feet. Because of our pampered feet, it is not recommended doing lengthy or strenuous exercises in VFFs until you build up your strength! I've seen posts online from people that were impatient and got stress fractures or partially foot ligaments (plantar fasciitis). Therefore, if it takes minutes to put on your shoes, you have still weak toes and/or bad technique. Today, on my 3rd time putting these on, I employed 2 techniques (walking my toes into the shoe & spreading my toes into their respective slots). I put both shoes on in under 1 minute 30 seconds total.

3) The width of the shoe is a medium to a narrow (to promote a tight fit I presume since there are no laces). Anybody with wide feet or bunions, like my father, should look into a model with laces or a tying system. The use of vertical height may help alleviate some people's width issues.

4) The clearish straps on the bottom of the shoe (between the forefoot and heel rubber pods) are not meant to continually drag against rough surfaces like concrete! When using these VFFs mostly in water, this will not be an issue, and the lack of rubber in the middle of the foot helps with added flexibility while swimming! With my flat feet, these clear stretchy straps will fray within a couple months of city walking, but, that is not what these shoes are made for. There are other models better suited with full length rubber soles for that.

5) The side strap doesn't seem to get in the way for me when putting on the shoe, but fit is different for everybody. Personally, with my fit, I can't even tell if the strap works! I could do without it, but I do like the aesthetic look of it. Don't like the look of the top pull tag either, but it is very necessary.

6) I got these Signas mainly for their perforated/holey sole as well. The holes will allow for better water flow and while submerged, and quick drying when exiting the pool. Other models with more heel or insole padding worried me in regards to the shoe retaining too much liquid and getting water-logged.

7) These are my first pair of VFFs, so I can't talk about the long term durability of the rubber used for the sole, but in terms of thickness (from what I've seen on their website & felt in the store) these soles are thinner than other shoes. Signas have a 2mm sole, most other VFFs have a 3mm sole, and some trail running ones have a 4mm sole. For lateral movement and gripping the bottom of a pool floor, I enjoy the thin rubbery grip. Keep in mind that rubber thickness doesn't always directly correlate to long-term wear & tear.

8) There is no rubber bumper on the tips of the toes! For those worried about constantly stubbing their toes, a different water shoe with raised rubber would be better. I never anticipated it being an issue for me, so I didn't mind the rubber only being on the bottom.

9) Everyone that I've seen that teaches classes in water (especially in a pool) said that it is better to have protection on your foot than going barefoot. I read online about a person that walked into a local lake (without wearing their VFFs for fear of water logging) and cut their foot. I will be solely in a pool, and bought these Signas in part to guard against the rough surface of the pool floor! Even if these shoes aren't the answer, don't barefoot it if you can.

10) Visitor Nick has a supreme tightness and pain around the pinky knuckle/little toe on one or both of his feet in these VFF Signas. Since every person is different, I did not receive this issue at all! My one problem (that may occur on my other foot in the future) is the pressure on the top of the shoe on the top of my foot! As it turns out, my left foot is bigger than my right foot (its very slightly longer). Also, due to the leg cast and inability to walk for an entire month, I lost up to 80% if the muscle mass in my right leg, and maybe 30% of the muscle mass in my right foot! With these 2 issues combined, it means that for me, my left foot is longer AND taller (due to muscles on top of my foot) than my right foot! The pain from pressure of the stretchy neoprene only occurs once an hour for a few minutes, then my body possibly gets used to it for a little while. To alleviate this, I have pushed/inched my foot back to the heel of my left shoe, and that seems to make the pain go away. Once I build the muscle back in my right foot however, I may have this same issue a year from now :-/

11) The Vibram logo on the inner part of the outsole's heel is clean for Nick, but is dirty for me. This is because of differences of how he supinates (ankles move outward when he runs) and I pronate (ankle moves inward when we walk). Because his foot rolls outward, he puts more wear on the outside of his shoes. Because I am neutral & severely flat-footed, or possibly even rolling inward as well, I put more wear on the inside of my shoes! This is, like I said, different for every individual, and not a major design flaw in the shoe, but a flaw in our postures, stance and strides.

12) Excellent point that the fact that there is no "segmented" rubber in the midfoot region of the outsole can be changed! I like that there is no stiff rubber in the middle, which is good for flexibility when swimming, but there could be dots of durable rubber along the clear stabilizing straps to preserve the wear of the area and keep the midfoot off of the ground for people with flat-normal arched feet! The rubber could be dotted and strategically spread out to keep the shoes flexibility, while strengthening the midfoot from long-term abrasion. Excellent free tip from Nick, you are welcome Vibrams...

Novel, finished. If there is anything I left out that may be of concern, please let me know! I love the barefoot feel of this brand of shoes, and I only notice that I am wearing shoes when I curl my foot inward against the flexion of the rubber sole. Might even buy a second pair soon, or one for the g/f and Dad...

I absolutely loved these shoes! As a barefoot and minimalist runner I wanted a pair of vibrams that could be taken into the water. This pair drained perfectly and completely, didn't hold air after submerging and I was surprised at how little sand got inside. When we arrived back home I threw them in the wash and air dried them. They're ready for my next adventure!

Be warned, however. These fit VERY snuggly!

Great shoes for home or water! Bought them for diving and now I'm going to get some for running and work.

The shoe is a slight departure from regular VFFs due to a sole that only covers the contact areas. Good feeling and good fit. Try a pair.

Almost all of my shoes are AE and these make my shoes bulge and uncomfortable. Should be made in a lower profile design. I love superfeet (have several pairs for running) but these don't work for me.

We can land a man on the moon but modern science hasn't figured out a way to make affordable comfortable men's dress shoes. DESPAIR NO MORE! Superfeet did it! These 3/4 length insoles let you live the dream. You can look good AND be comfortable! They fit in nearly any dress shoe (although a little extra room helps), and allow you to go to a party and be on your feet without feeling like you are trapped in a torture chamber. These insoles actually kept my feet comfy and happy. Superfeet does have it's own sizing, but a quick google search for "superfeet sizes" will let you know which size to buy.

These insoles are worth their weight in gold. Do not hesitate to buy them.

Upon a recommendation from a friend, I bought the Superfeet Green due to severe knee pain. After reading the reviews of the Delux insoles for casual shoes, I decided to purchase a pair. Another great decision as my casual work shoes no longer cause knee pain. Yeah Superfeet! Keep up the good work...

If you like to have a pair of insoles around...these are good ones. Quite stiff but helps your arch. Not cheap...but very good for what they are.

Due to a back injury I've tried numerous pairs of pharmacy inserts and these blow them away. They are very high quality, far better and more durable than the pharmacy variety. They fit well inside my dress shoes (Church's and Allen Edmonds). They are firm and provide excellent support but they are not so stiff as to cause discomfort. Be aware they are very different from the various "cushion" type insoles and actually provide relief from foot and back pain and fatigue by providing support.

In short, stop going through the various cushion, memory foam, over the counter variety inserts and spend the extra money on these and you won't be sorry.
