I previously wore the Spira Trail Runner but Spria no longer makes it the Spira representative suggested I try the Odyssey in its place. It's a great shoe very stable but still comfortable It does run small get 1/2 size up.

I normally wear ordinary cushioning/neutral running shoes (I don't need/have never worn stability shoes). I've worn several different styles/brands without problem. I thought I would try these as they were on sale. I ordered 1/2 size larger than my normal size (10 vs. 9.5) and the fit is a little too roomy. They are comfortable walking, but after less than 20 minutes of running in them I developed a horrible searing pain in my left heel of the sort you associated with plantar fasciitis. The shoes feel somewhat like they collapse to the inside and they flex more than the Saucony Ride's that I was hoping to retire. I'm not sure what the exact problem is--maybe the mechanism is not adequate for the type of forces generated at running speeds by a 185-lb person.

I purchased these shoes for pain relief. The product is described as having 3 springs within the sole which provide cushioning and pain relief. My experience is that the shoes do not perform at all as described. The soles are very thin, so I don't see how there can be much of a spring embedded in there, and they certainly don't provide much cushioning. They don't feel like they have any more cushioning than any other running shoe, and perhaps even less than many other brands that are not especially designed for pain relief. In addition the soles do not provide much traction. Bottom line, these are inferior running shoes and they did not do anything to provide pain relief. I wore them for 2 weeks and ended up in so much pain I could barely walk. I have now ordered Z-Coil shoes which I know do provide the cushioning that I need, even if they are ugly.

I visited a local runners specialty store and tried on a few options. These were the ones that fit just right for my overpronating, flat foot. I ran down the street with them and chose them. I paid a lot for them and felt unsure about the price, but knew that the right shoe wouldn't come cheap.

I came home and did an online search for the shoe and found the cheapest price here (well, via another vendor). I ordered the shoe which matched the shoe I initially bought, and waited for it. It came in a week. It was the EXACT shoe but I found it here for $15 less. To a beginning runner, who might run into a lot of "the right" pairs on my journey, this is paramount to me. (Luckily, I was able to return the other shoes to my local retailer without an issue).

Now, I use this shoe strictly for my daily runs/jogs and my neck no longer hurts the next day. My feet don't pinch at every step anymore and I feel BALANCED with each step. This shoe feels like it was made specifically for my foot. I have wide feet, no arch, and I am a severe overpronator. I will be buying another pair soon. I feel so bad for those who are still wearing the wrong shoe. Mine has worked wonders for me. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

Specifics: the laces are fantastic! They don't come undone and I don't have to double tie them. They may appear a bit large and somewhat bulky but when you walk and run with them, all of that slips away. Having a wide foot, I thought I'd need the wide size but this shoe is spacious enough that I don't need it. The style is fine too, nothing too flashy nor too demure. All around a GREAT shoe!

These were suggested to me at a podiatrist owned shoe store. I went in thinking my custom orthotics needed some tweaking but came out wearing these shoes without orthotics. I was told to "give them 10 days" and I could return them if I didn't feel better. Being pessimistic I tried to find things wrong with them, but I couldn't. The support is so good and so comfortable I put them on as early as I can in the day and wear them straight til bedtime. My back pain is gone as is my heel pain from plantar fascitis. There's enough stability in the shoe itself I no longer have to wear the custom orthotic. I can't recommend them enough. Now, if NB could just come up with a dressy brown shoe, I'd be set. Sneakers don't exactly go with every outfit.

I LOVED my NB WR1011 shoes for my step aerobics class. They kept me from rolling/twisting my ankles when moving from side to side. When I went looking for new ones, I was disappointed to find that the WR1011 was discontinued and replaced with WR1012. I went ahead and bought these anyway, hoping they'd fit and feel the same. I don't think they fit as nicely as the 1011 did, but they do keep me from rolling/twisting my ankles. I don't think the arch support is as nice as the 1011 either, but it's adequate. I like more support in my arches. Overall, I feel it's not as true to the New Balance "SL-2" fit as the 1011 was. This shoe has adequate support and still works for me, though.

I am an overpronator who has owned several pairs of the New Balance 1011 women's running shoes. In other brands of running shoes I have had to wear a wide width, but the 1011's had a wider toe box and were a good fit in the regular width. I run road races in distances from 5k to 1/2 marathons. I train on various running surfaces from trails, to 400m rubberized tracks, to asphalt.

The women's New Balance 1011 was the perfect shoe for me. I would get a new pair, take them out of the box and run any surface, any distance, and finish my run with happy, blister-free feet. It was only when the shoes began to wear down from all of the miles I put on them, that I would get a black and blue toe nail on the second smallest toe of my left foot, and a blister on the tip of the middle toe on the same foot. This is when I knew the shoes needed to be replaced even if the shoes still looked "pretty." (A closer look at the heels of the shoes would reveal the outside edges of the shoe had worn down.)

When the 1011's were discontinued I bought the 1012 without hesitation thinking it was an improved version of what I had been running in. I bought the 1012's, put them on, and went out for a 7 mile run on a fairly flat road course. Halfway through the run I knew these were not the same shoes I was accustom to. By the time I finished my run I had a large, painful blood blister on the bottom and side edge of my left foot at the "big toe joint" and the blister on the end of my middle toe was so large it made the toe look significantly longer than my other toes. I have since tried adjusting the laces, pairing them with three different types of "blister-free" socks, and using topical lubricants such as Aquophor. Nothing I have tried has alleviated the problem.

Then I started having quick, painful spasms in my left quad during my runs. I took a couple of days off, ran again, same issue. Yesterday, I took out my 1011's with the slightly worn heels and ran a 5k. No spasm in the quad and no fresh blood in my heavily calloused and peeling blood blister. I came to the conclusion that the 1012's are just not right for me. We are parting company. Whatever New Balance did to "tweak" and improve the shoe was detrimental to our running relationship.

he made sure the package was delivered personally and the product was what he described but they were listed as size 13 and are size 13 but the box and label inside the shoes list them as 11.5 and I do not know if they were made like this accidentally because they seem real and I collect jordans but I am a little aggravated because I overpaid for screwed up shoes so that is my only complaint

Overall, I thought this shoe wasn't that bad. But it's a heavy shoe (13.1 ounces). If you are running with 9-11 ounces shoe, then this is not a good choice. Probably, you might want to try Odyssey if you want to use it for competitive marathon or long distance training.

I love this shoe! I've had it for a few months, and the cushion is exactly the same as it was from day 1. I've never had a running shoe where the cushion maintains itself past a month or so, especially one I ran hard in. I'd strongly recommend the Spira brand if you get sore feet!

I tried lots of different casual hiking boots for everyday as well as work wear over the years. Most of them looked great, and were comfortable at first . . . but they all wore out quickly. I bought K2 when they were making boots, Nike and others. The Timberland boots are awesome. Very waterproof, very comfortable, and last quite a while. I usually wear them out in 2 or 3 seasons of wear. I use them for carpentry, yard work, daily wear in the fall and winter. I like to keep a "dress" pair that I wear for going out. Great boots. In constant rotation in my closet. Excellent value!

I have a pair of Timberland boots model Dusty Trails that I've used for five years. I've put them through a lot of work and abuse, mostly working around my homestead that is mostly steep fields and forest. They no longer look pretty but are still intact with plenty of tread. These have been extremely comfortable and durable boots so I thought I would get another pair. Well, the Dusty Trails is no longer available and after six months watching ebay I saw only two pair show up (but not my size). So I decided to look for an alternative. I checked out several Timberland boots that have good ratings but I didn't want to spend $80+ so I went with the Trail Seeker.

The Trail Seeker has tread that is identical to the Dusty Trails, which is good. The Trail Seeker appears similar to the Dusty Trails but looks to be somewhat lesser quality. The eye hooks are solid vs the flexible eye rings on my older boots and I suspect more likely to break (of course I hope I've judged that wrong).

They are comfortable and haven't even been fully broken in yet. They do feel very much like my old boots and have the same excellent traction. Time will tell if they are as durable as my older boots but my guess is they will take the abuse I dish out for at least a few years.

I LOVE running in the Reebok Zigtech shoes. I've bought several models over the last several years and have been more than happy with all of them. Until these. :-( They are not nearly as cushioned as the previous models I've owned. The heel is not more cushioned as expected. As a matter of fact, my heels HURT running in these shoes. My son wears orthotics and we have a hard time finding a shoe for little boys that actually offers some support and isn't a fashion shoe. These shoes are great! They are cute enough, offer great support, and have held up to my very rough 4 year old. He never complains about his feet hurting. The only thing I don't like, and I didn't reduce the rating for this, is the laces don't stay tied very well. They are round and seem to come lose often.

These shoes are twenty five dollars more in the store than on Amazon, so you are getting a great shoe for an excellent price.

We received these shoes on a friday, by monday morning the tread pieces on the bottom of one shoe was coming off.

Exchanged them for a different style of New Balance that we had good luck with before. It was probably just a fluke, but it was still disappointing.

I liked the Syncro Float III a little better, but since they no longer sell those, these are a pretty good replacement.

First, what I like:

Weight: These shoes are a good weight for the running I do. I usually run 5-10 miles at a time (sometimes more). They are sturdy enough to hold out in the long run, without being too bulky and adding too much weight to my run.

Thickness of the shoe: They are thick enough to protect my feet from the elements, but more importunately, they are thin enough that my feet do not suffocate while I am running.

Flexibility: These shoes are flexible enough while I run that I can maintain a natural step, without being too flexible, and causing my feet to feel every rock and obstacle.

What I don't like:

They are too low around my ankle. As I said at the start, I used to wear the Syncro Float III. These shoes do not cover as much of my ankles as the Syncro Float III. I would prefer if they went a little higher up, as I feel I need a bit more support on my ankle.

Other than that, this is a great pair of shoes. If you liked the Syncro Float, I think this is the logical next shoe.

Best Altra Women's The Torin Running Shoe Deals

After 20 years of jogging, I never thought I would become a "real" runner, and I always ran just for the exercise. Since switching to zero rise shoes, though, I have new wind in my sails!! My whole body feels more engaged and less strained with fore/mid-foot running, thanks to getting rid of those awful heels. The ALTRA shoes in particular are fabulous because they still provide cushioning and support on hard roads, but the cushioning is evenly distributed over the footbed. By way of comparison, I started this change with minimalist ("barefoot") shoes, which have no cushioning at all...and while the shock absorption really should come mostly from your natural bending of joints, I just felt that for running on pavement I still prefer some cush in the shoe itself. These are a really nice middle ground, providing absorption without forcing a crash landing on a big thick stacked heel. I never understood why running shoes were made that way for so long, and I hope they all go the way of the dinosaurs. These shoes also have plenty of room for toes to spread out and wiggle around, so there is no crammed in claustrophobic feeling.

Keep in mind that, if you've been running in "high heels" for many years, you'll have to re-train at lower mileage and build up your calves and ankle strength with the zero rise. It took me a few months of concerted, conscious effort to stop crashing on my heels, but I'm so glad I did it. No more IT band issues and my legs are more balanced looking -not just all quads! A year after making the change, I feel I'm still on the way UP in my running performance.

I have never written a review before but these are so comfortable that I had to spread the word. I run about 20-30 miles a week and I've been looking for a zero-drop shoe with a decent amount of cushioning to them. These fit the bill perfectly and I love the roomy toebox.

I was nervous bc i have foot issues (wide and high arched) and require cushioning. I bought these bc my BFF raved about them. While it is a totally different experience that requires a gradual acclimation, i love them.

This past weekend i ran 9 miles in my brooks glycerin (which are also good!!) then stopped by the car and put on the altras. Toes never felt so good... Like slippers!!!

Buy Vivobarefoot Men's Achilles Running Shoe

I've been running completely barefoot for 7 years. I've generally tried to keep most of my running completely barefoot although I do have a pair of FiveFingers for cold or just when I need a break. I run on lots of gravel though and finally have decided that to run fast where I run I need to where shoes more. I started just wearing the FF more, but they were too hot in the summer and I like the open feeling of being barefoot. So, I decided to get a running sandal.

Overall, these have been exactly what I was looking for. I spent a couple weeks easing into them as the toe-separator does rub the inside of your toes. However, after a week or so it seemed like no big deal for my lunch runs (5-8 miles). They seem like high quality and that they will probably last a long time. They are a bit heavier feeling than expected though. Also, although I normally wear a 43; the 41/42 size fit perfectly...the 43/44 was way too big for running as you need a snugger fit so you're foot doesn't move around in the shoe (I bought both sizes and returned the 43/44). If I were wearing it to the beach or just walking around the 43/44 probably would have been fine though (the 43/44 fit similarly to other flip-flops I have).

Really, the only complaint I have is that if I run through sandy places some times a few grains get stuck in between the toe separator and rub uncomfortably against the inside of my toe for a while. However, it seems like that is part of the deal with a running sandal. If I didn't want that, I'd just wear a more shoe-like running shoe ;) I do like the toe-separator from a stability perspective, but if they could redesign it to be less abrasive against the foot this shoe would be perfect.

The Vivobarefoot Achilles sandals are about as close as is possible to actual barefoot, while still having something between my feet and the rocks. Arizona has lots of these, so a minimal shield is good. They look cool, too. Don't expect cushioning, though. Recommended.

I've run in Vibram FFs, Merrell Bare Access 2, trail and road gloves, Nike Free Runs, Saucony Kinvaras and these bad boys over the past few years. And all of them have their place; that can't be denied. The Merrells are the best (imho) in terms of quality, looks, all-day comfort and most importantly customer service and feedback. I've loved every pair I've ever bought.

But these I bought on a whim...I had some amazon credit and figured I'd round out my collection of minimalist shoes with something pretty extreme. However I was surprised at what I got; a no-nonsense pure-awesome distance running shoe.

If you've been doing the barefoot 'thing' for a while and your feet/legs are built up to handle it, you'll never run on anything more comfortable. Your feet will breathe well, land on the ball like they're supposed to and feel every bump without getting cut or hurt. You might get a pebble stuck once in them once in a while but it doesn't last long; in a few steps it usually flies right back out.

I use my Merrells in the gym when I'm lifting or using a cardio machine, but when I'm out on the path putting down some mileage these are the only shoes I'll run in. The only con is that yes, they're pretty ugly. The camel toe is a bit offputting to look at.

The workaround is to get the ones that are semi-translucent with the yellow soles...that way you look like you're running with nothing on your feet at all. :)

After sojourning with Merrel, New Balance, Vibram Five Fingers, etc...I've finally found a home with Vivobarefoot in general. In particular, the Achilles works great for me.

I live in Miami, Fl. These breath even better than the Vivo Ultra Pure running shoe.

I run, sprint, practice joint mobility, train with kettlebells, and do Capoeira in these shoes.

Of course I prefer being actually barefoot...but these are the next best thing...especially when you need the protection in hot climate.
