Review of Superfeet Green Premium Insoles

OK, this will get pretty technical, so bare with me. Just so y'all know my background here, I used to work for a podiatrist as well as for one of the world's largest running stores.

The way the Green Superfeet works is by providing support for someone with a HIGH arch. During the run, a high arch collapses and the green superfeet will actually help hold up the arch during the collapse. If you have LOW arches, do NOT buy this use the blue superfeet. If you have low arches, this can actually cause plantar fasciitis by causing tension in the plantar facscia. I've seen many reviews saying it's great for low arches, so I wanted to give a heads up.

Now, the one real cool thing about the Superfeet is that they have the hard plastic bottom. This, contrary to what seems logical, is the most healthy shock absorption for your feet. Compare it to running on sand versus running on cement. if you run on sand, your joints work a lot harder, and your body is not able to absorb the shock as well, causing pain. If you run on cement, your subtalar joint won't splay outwards as much, causing the fatty tissue under your foot to take more of the shock. The Superfeet encourages this with a deep heel cup, so it supports your heel, forcing the fatty tissue to cup your heel, creating the best shock absorption ever.

My personal opinion on this? I have it in all my shoes! I own about ten pairs of green Superfeet they last forever, and the toe is perfectly flexible for a great toe-off during running. There is also a small layer of dense foam between the plastic and where your foot sits, allowing your foot to make it's own "custom mold" into the insole.

If you work on your feet or do a lot of walking these are the insoles for you! They are the most recommended insoles by podiatrists for mild roll-over problems and my chiropractor sells them in his office. Not only do they keep your feet in a neutral position (level and straight) but they reduce wear and tear on shoes by doing so (less weardown on outsides or insides of soles). I work 40+ hours a week on concrete and suffered from constant pain in my feet, ankles, knees and hips. After Superfeet were inserted into my work shoes, I noticed a dramatic difference after only 1 week (I started with new shoes so I wasn't fighting against existing wear). They also last months longer than cheaper insoles. I recommend these to my customers and friends without reservation.

I also have plantar fascitis from hopping around so much. I wear these in every single pair of shoes I have. They are also great for ski and snowboard boots if you have wide, flat feet the higher arch will raise your foot slightly and help prevent flattening where your toes just goosh out in all of the wrong sideways directions. If you are looking at cheaper gel or rubber type insoles to help cure some foot pain, don't try it. You're going to waste money like I did until you find your super feet.

I have worn these inserts for years at the recomendation of a doctor for Planter faciitis. They work exceptionally well for all types of activities such as hiking, running, working in the yard, etc. So far I haven't found any other product that even comes close to this one.

I LOVED these shoes and was very excited to get them. The shipping was exceptionally fast. My only complaint is the sizing. I am normally a size 7, and upon reading some reviews on another website that they run a tad large I got the smallest size down they had, a 6.5. They still ran very big, even with inserts. I think I would need a 5.5. My advice is if you are able to, try these shoes on in a store first. If they are a bit tight don't fret, the suede will stretch. I don't think I could wear them out without being worried about them constantly falling off. Being a Canadian resident it wouldn't be worth the shipping costs to send them back for a refund. I can't find these anywhere! Several sites won't even ship Minnetonka to Canada anymore. :(

These shoes are devilishly simple, and customizable in every way. Everyone may be wearing Chucks these days, but you can still make them your own. There are so many wayswhat color would you like? One of the core colorsblack and white? Monochrome black? White? Red? Green? Blue? Pink? How about the latest pattern or print? Every year Converse also pumps out new seasonal colors, and different styles such as double-tongued shoes, "tear-aways", faded looking ones, everything. You can buy different color laces or you can go crazy with a Sharpie and draw up some art all over your shoes. And for something seemingly so flimsy, they're pretty durable. My shoes have withstood countless running and hitting the asphalt, games of soccer, basketball, jumping from everywhere, the basic abuse a teen can dish out to his feet. Granted, they may not be too comfortable at first, but once your feet gets used to them, well, you don't even notice you're wearing them anymore. Nevertheless, it does have some setbacks, but if you look at modern shoes, you can see the differences in design. But for something from over 3/4 of a century ago, you've got to admit they're pretty darn impressive. The skinny:

PROS

-customizable in any waylaces can be easily replaced and be done up in any pattern you wish

-look great with anything and everything; the unisex casual sneaker that will even draw you the occasional compliment from coworkers or friends.

-lightweight compared to most shoes of today

-so many colorsfrom your basic core colors (black, red, green, blue, white, or pink) to different designs (60s tie dye, camo, skulls, flames, etc.)

-also different kinds of shoesfrom the classics to the newer double uppers, tear-aways (shoes with two layers of canvas, and some parts are already torn away to show the brighter underlayer), double-tongued, and also DIFFERENT MATERIALS like leather or suede.

CONS

-the color fades; especially in the harsh sun. My navy blue Taylors have been bleached to the color of very faded blue denim.

-the rubber parts of the shoe can get dirty rather quickly, but are easily cleanable.

-overall the shoe is pretty comfortable, but not recommended for prolonged running or a whole day on the boardwalk. It depends a lot on the shape of your footif your feet are flat, you'll find that these shoes are a match made in heaven. Otherwise you may have some issues, but not so bad they're unwearable.

-I don't know what it is about it, but they make your feet look bigger than they really are.

-NOT TO BE USED AS A SKATE SHOE. Converse shoes are made from canvas, which won't give you any mercy from runaway boards, and they do NOT have adequate cushioning on the top, bottom, or sides for such an activity.

NOTE: BUY A HALF-SIZE SMALLER THAN WHAT YOU'RE AIMING FOR. A Converse size 10 is, in reality, a 10 1/2.

ANOTHER NOTE: If this bothers you, then you should know. Chucks are no longer manufactured in the USA. They are now outsourced to other countries, mostly China. Your Chucks won't be falling apart on you or anything, but know that Converse is now a subsidiary of Nike, a company known to use sweatshop labor to make their shoes.

I hate wearing shoes! I live in flipflops in the summer and Ugg type boots in the winter. Not so great to go hiking in either one. These fit the bill perfectly. I have the protection, comfort and freedom in a breathable shoe! I love the coloring of the tusk/afterglow because it goes with everything. I typically wear an 8.5 in sneakers and a 9 in boots. The 9 fits me perfectly. They have a removable insole so you can put in your own insert. I have weird arches so I always need to put my own insoles in. However if it weren't for that they are very comfortable!

These soles are amazing. It feels like they are almost sticky. I have only had them for 3 months, but they haven't worn much at all despite riding with them about 10 hours a week. The flap that covers the laces is great for keeping out mud.

The shoes are heavier than the shoes that I was using, but I think that the great soles more than make up for it. They take a while to dry, but I find that because of the flap, it is better to just wipe down the outside of the shoe rather than completely wash and dry it.

Overall, these shoes are highly recommended for mountain bikers!

Liked this shoe at first, but when I got it on and walked around it was uncomfortable at points. The side piece is all molded plastic, which bends and presses into your foot when you walk. Seemed well-cushioned, but the side emblem made it too uncomfortable to keep.

I like high-tops. They are versatile and little pebbles or seed pods don't get stuck in my shoes if I run in a field with my dog. High-tops generally mean Basketball shoes. Basketball shoes are crazy. Crazy colors, materials, prices and they aren't ideal for what I wear sneakers for. I just wanted a sneaker that was comfortable, conservative and performs well. Most nikes are a little narrow for my foot, so I have to suffer for a week or two until they loosen up. These feel great day one. I will update the post on how they wear and perform. Saucony Men's Progrid Guide 5 Running Shoe Review

I run three times a week, totalling just over 25 miles, and am 65 years old, having run for 40 years.

I've loved running in my New Balance Minimus -the barefoot style running shoe. But when an irksome Achilles Tendinitis case just wouldn't go away. I decided I needed a bit of cushioning.

So, I read about these new Saucony's in Runners World -which rated them an Editor's Pick -and took a chance on 'em. Great look, great fit, stable in the ankles, extremely light (e.g. even down to a nice, short tongue) , nice cushion, and -most important for me -a relatively short drop from ball to heel, only 8MM. Makes running on your forefeet much easier. And, after a month, my Achilles tendinitis is finally starting to recede. (I credit the shoes and, strangely, a homeopathic cream also noted in Runner's World, Topricin, which one can also find on Amazon. I have absolutely no faith in homeopathy, but this stuff seems to work.)

The shoes ran "hot" the first time. Since then, though, they've been just fine. And now are easily the best, most comfortable running shoes I've ever used. If you can get 'em at the $89 price I got, they're about the best running buy you could ever make.

When I started running I used Progrid Guide 3 shoes. I made an easy transition to the update Guide 4 shoe the following year. Needing a new pair of shoes, I bought the latest in the series, the Guide 5. It is a great shoe, but I would caution those who have been using the Guide 4 shoe that you WILL notice the change in offset from 12 mm to 8 mm. I did almost immediately and initially it was uncomfortable. I got used to them after a few miles and I think in the long run I will be better off with them. However, I doubt I can use the 4's as a backup pair because I think it will be uncomfortable going back and forth between the two.

Update 9/27/2013: These shoes have been fantastic. I bought a 2nd pair without hesitation.

I'm a pretty serious runner that puts in roughly 35-40 miles a week consistently throughout the year. My go-to shoe the past 3-4 years has been the Asics 21xx series culminating in the 2160 shoes I just wore out. I wasn't very impressed with the design changes Asics made with the 2170 shoe, so I decided to give Saucony a try.

In my decision process, I wanted a shoe that was lighter than the Asics I had been wearing, and also wanted a smaller heel/toe drop so I could start the slow transition toward better mid-foot striking. The Progrid 5 shoe seemed to fit the bill in what I was looking for. My initial impressions were the following:

* This shoe is very light weight compared to my previous Asics 2160 shoe. It's really not even close. You will definitely feel the difference if you transitioning from a standard training shoe.

* I moderately pronate, so with the lighter weight I was worried that I was going to be sacrificing support. With over 200 miles on these shoes I have had no injuries or soreness usually associated with bad supporting shoes. In fact, my ankles (my normal problem spot) have felt better (perhaps due to better mid foot striking?)

* The toe box is a little tighter than my Asics, but not enough to chafe or cause any issues. Just something to note.

* Even with the lower heel/toe I didn't feel like I was getting beat up on the road due to less cushioning. If you are coming from a standard 12mm shoe you definitely get some feedback that you are heel striking, but not enough to make you uncomfortable like most minimalist shoes. During my 200 miles of running in these shoes I have definitely transitioned more to my midfoot and less on my heel.

The shoes have held up nicely and are wearing well. Will probably be able to get my standard 500 miles or so from these puppies. And, on the aesthetic front, I like the color selection as well. I went with the Vizipro/Citron/Blue shoe and I've definitely gotten some "nice shoes!" comments yelled my way.

Overall, I'm super pleased with these shoes. They provide great support for the moderate pronator, are a great transition shoe to mid foot striking without getting injured, are very light and comfortable, and are wearing well. Buy with confidence.

These shoes are wonderful for running and are very comfortable. I'm a distance runner myself, and these shoes have been flawless since I bought these a few weeks ago at my local Fleet Feet. It took about a few days of walking to break in the shoes. I have not had much of an issue when using these shoes for speed work as well. So far, I have walked and ran about 45 miles with these dandy looking shoes. Overall, these shoes have been the best pair I have ever owned!

Light as a feature and so comfortable from the minute I put them on. Never even knew they were on my feet yet plenty of room and support and very stylish. I use them at the gym on the eliptical and arc trainer and they provided plenty of cushion and support. I wear a 9(with a small sock) and I ordered a 9 and they fit perfect. this is my second pair and they are so light weight and comfortable. At first they felt wierd as the tie area is a bit higher on the shoe but after running for a week they are now the most comfy sneakers I have ever had. I honestly LOVED these shoes when I first got them. They are supper light and don't rub my skin in any way( like some shoes can on the back of the ankle) HOWEVER after only owning them for 2 months, they stared to fall apart. The front rubber part on the toe cam off and the right one ripped over my big toe. Mind you I only used them to walk outside in and run on the treadmill( never run outside) so needless to say they were not worth what I paid since now I have to buy new ones already. Running shoes even used daily should at least last 4-6 months. I have never had this problem with other brands.

internet says they run big. i got an 8 and its perfect (i mostly wear 8.5s, have a couple nike frees and theyre 9s).

i mostly use these for gym activities and a little running. i like them slightly better than anything ive worn b4 but dont love em.

pros:

-theyre light but not tooo light. weight is really good, mb just placebo effect but makes me feel like im not cheating myself when doing pullups and plyo stuff.

-the heel is fairly stiff but has just enough give (was using vans previously which is not as firm, side note is that im really sick of hearing chuck taylors etc. described as having 'a really firm sole w no give' lol)

-i have a slightly wider than average foot, maybe about average. shoe fits very very well in all dimensions but has a very low profile so orthotic type insoles would be impossible (ur heel would be slipping out the back).

cons:

-they arent v supportive laterally. i wouldnt be very comfortable playing bball in these (and i always wear low-top 'running shoes')

-the toe box is 'crinkly'. doesnt have much stuctural integrity, dont like the material they used. not a performance thing, just aesthetically the toe is not a very sweet sihouette. look kinda cheap.

I bought these couple months ago and I have been walking in them mostly, not running or similar. But they appear to be better then my last asics because top front of the shoe is different then most of the asics models. I is not connected with glue, it is sewed, so it has stitches. Very stabile shoe, good for fast changes in movement. I will start using them extensively during this month and I hope they will last as my asics before these. They are 4 yrs old and I still use them for sprints and running and jumping exercises. My recommendation for asics shoes!

Bought three pairs of these laces directly from welovecolors all three pairs have such fat tips that they wouldn't fit through the eyelets on ANY of the shoes (Nike, Reebok, etc) that I tried. Their customer service person told me that ALL of their laces have the same tips. So if you have normal eyelets on your normal shoes, it's pretty much guaranteed that these won't fit your shoes. I'm awaiting their return label so that I can send back these useless laces.

Love these laces & the material they're made of (nylon). Colored laces for some reason have become impossible to find in a retail store so I'm very thankful for finding these laces & the variety of colors available. It's just not possible to be cool without color coordinated laces for your sneakers.
