I purchased my Aline inserts from my physical therapist. She added special wedges, made by Aline for this purpose, to the bottom of each. This encourages my foot to be arched in the right direction, and pushes my heels outward, so my leg ends up at the correct degree. It was a 20+/minute process to determine what wedge and where it should be placed. This made it customized for my feet and legs. We built them during one of my physical therapy sessions. I paid $70 for the inserts with the customization and wedges.

My chiropractor was also encouraging me to get custom inserts. He was going to charge over $200. I've had my Aline inserts for 2 months now. Yesterday my chiropractor told me that he is really happy with my progress, and the (Aline) inserts have been a good investment.

I was told to wear them slowly at first, so that my feet and legs would get used to them. I didn't need to, however; they felt "right" immediately.

My only "complaints":

1. My feet don't feel right if I don't have them on! (And this happened almost immediately, so I must have really needed them!)

a. I'm a big sandal fan -they won't work in my summer footwear. Not sure how I'll handle it in the summer. (My PT recommends sandals by Sole.)

b. I used to do a lot of ballroom dancing. They won't fit in my dance shoes. (It's been a while since I've danced -there might be a brand/style of dance shoe that will accept inserts.)

2. They can be used in any shoe, sneaker, slipper or boot that will accept inserts. However they are hard to remove, so I'm wearing my "regular" shoes most of the time -including with my PJ's! (If I had the extra cash, I'd buy a 2nd pair to move around, and leave the primary set in my most-used shoes.)

I cannot fault these inserts for my complaints. I suspect that my feet wouldn't feel right if I stopped wearing ANY properly fitting insert. I can't find fault with this brand for the fact that I need them! Nor can I fault them for not fitting in sandals or ballroom dance shoes; if they are to work, they won't fit in sandals, and the shoe needs to be big enough to accept any insert. And, any insert should fit in a shoe snuggly, which would make them hard to remove.

So, my Aline inserts -with the professionally added wedges -is 5 stars! I will add that my physical therapist said that about 90% of the people that they test do require the added wedges, so I'd be concerned about purchasing them without the wedges. (But I'd purchase these over other non-customizable inserts, because of the shock-absorbing feature that these have, and most other "generic" inserts lack.)

Last week, I was trying to ride a 78 mile ride and at mile 50 both my feet were in pain (some version of hotfoot). I went to a local bike store. I was hobbling around. I asked if there were better liners, and he said they carry Aline shoe liners, which are pretty high tech. I put them in my bike shoes, and I literally jumped up and down without any pain (2 hours earlier I couldn't clip-in without wincing). My feet still hurt today, 2 days later, when walking barefoot, but I was able to ride 20 miles today without pain, in fact at one of my fastest paces all year! I am thrilled to have found a solution to my painful foot problem!

I also like the fact that this "aligns" my leg and foot (hence the "aline" name) to better transfer power to the pedals.

I purchased these for my "walking shoes" prior to a vacation where we did a lot of walking. My feet never hurt and I was able to walk miles feeling like I had superior support.

I have a lot of knee pain from over-pronation. I immediately put these insoles into my running shoes and felt better. I did 4 marathons in them (plus training) and never had knee pain. So when it was time to get some new insoles, I wanted these. No one sold them locally, so I order them from Foot Smart via Amazon. They sent 2 right insoles. When I went to return them, their pre-printed return label was to me not them.

Foot "Smart" HA! What a joke.
