I bought these to wear on a vacation last month to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and they worked great. I wore them almost every day for 2 weeks, on Ocracoke and the beaches around Cape Hatteras. I have narrow feet, so I tend to sink into the sand, and shoes provide a broader base for walking on the sand, plus support and protection for the walk out to the beach (asphalt, sharp objects, etc.).

These shoes were great:

1) comfortable to wear with no socks--no rubbing, good support, on beach walks from one to two miles.

2) did not collect sand, even though the top is mesh--sand got in, of course, but it drained out again so that you did not end up with big lumps of sand building up. Wet or dry, the sand drained out through the open-mesh insoles and drain ports in the sole.

3) Worked great whether I stayed dry or walked in the surf, and they dried fairly fast on my feet after I got out of the surf. It was great not having to worry about whether I was going to wade or not--these shoes handled it all.

4) Slip on and off fairly easily, even when my feet were covered in sand. I could wear them down to the beach, take them off to do some bodysurfing, and slide them back on over my wet, sandy feet to walk back to the house.

They seem to run large--I am normally a 9 1/2 womens, and the 9 fits pretty well. 10 was huge on me (I usually get 10 for all my Nikes, which run a bit small, so my first order of these was a 10, but I had to exchange and the 10 was so big that I went down to a 9 and did not get 9 1/2).

I would give them 5 stars, but a couple of days before my vacation was up, on one shoe I noticed a small hole in the mesh where it meets the rubber toe-guard. Hopefully it will stay small, but I had worn the shoes less than 2 weeks, so that is an issue.

However, you might want to try these anyway. I have gone through many types of beach shoes, and these were the best so far. I am also planning to bring them the next time I go to Hawaii--they would handle rocky beaches very well, I think.

I already took my new water shoe for a trial to the beach. They made the walk on the sand easy on my feet. yes, the cost more than other, but in my opinion they are worth it. Amazon's price was the best when I purchased them. Bass Pro shop was like $20.00 more.

Honest reviews on Columbia Women's Drainsock Water Shoe

Being a bargain shopper, I was spending more than I wanted to for 'water shoes' but less than I could have had I bought a nice pair of Keen's or something similar.

I needed these for a cruise and a trip to Dunns River Falls in Jamaica. Trying to pack light, I planned to use these for running on the ship as well. I was worried they might stretch out or not work with and without socks.

These shoes were perfect! They worked for running, climbing the falls, traveling on the airplane, with and without socks. They seemed a little loose and I was concerned I should have gotten a half size smaller, but they never stretched out so I was very satisfied with them.

I loved these water shoes when they first arrived. Yesterday, (after three short months), I noticed a small slit by the toe, which today after water aerobics has doubled. I would not recommend these water shoes. I maybe wear them 3-4 hours per week.
