I have been wearing Montrail shoes for many years and have always had great experiences with them. Unfortunately with these shoes, the soles are just not living up to the demands the trails put on them. After just 3 medium hikes, the lugs on the bottom of the shoe are delaminating from the sole. They fit well on my feet and are keeping them dry. Too bad the soles just are not as tough as the rest of the shoe.

Nice shoes except for the lugs delaminating. I glued them back on with some auto body trim adhesive several weeks ago. Seems to be holding. Great fit and are water proof.

I gave the 5-star rating for quality, price, design and fast delivery. They seemed to do very well what they were intended to do, but not so well what I intended. I don't run on "aggressive terrain" (the term used by Montrail on their website.) But I did start hiking on aggressive terrain, the AT in Maine and NH, where experienced backpackers thought that "mountain trail running shoes" are a viable alternative to hiking boots or shoes. I found this not to be entirely the case, at least for sections of the trail considered by veterans to be the most challenging. (My bad.) What did work out well was the ultra light weight compared to my other shoes and boots. They felt great! Also, the mid height collar saved me from losing a shoe when I slipped off a boardwalk into a quicksand-like bog above the kneecap. (I probably would have lost, irretrievably, my other hiking shoe in that situation . . . and then have to finish the mountain trek on a sandal.) Sadly though, the tread design was not as well suited as others for walking up and down large smooth dry flat rocks on a steep incline, or wet slippery muddy boardwalks. They did not feel "grabby" enough. And if the rocks or boards were wet or moss-covered, then I felt like I was on ice skates. The treads and sole did not work well for me scaling and scrambling around 3-6 ft boulders. But then again, I am pretty sure that was not what they were designed to do well (in hindsight)hence the 5 stars.

I was skeptical at first. Could they REALLY be waterproof? They REALLY are. I sprayed then down with a water bottle to test them out before wearing them outside. They are also light and super supportive/stable and comfortable. I could easily wear them all day. I will definitely buy again!
