I dread getting new hiking boots.

Just thinking about breaking in new boots gives my feet blisters.

But, earlier this spring it was time to retire the worn out pair of boots that I'd purchased when the Spice Girls were awesome.

After much research, and walking miles around the store in random pairs of boots I ended up purchasing a nifty pair of `Asolo TPS 520 GV's`.

My husband has owned and loved a pair of Asolo TPS 520 GV's for a while but my love affair with these snappy leather beauty's is relatively new. I hope it lasts.

Here's what we like:

-For being a pretty hardcore leather hiking/backpacking boot they are surprisingly lightweight.

-They were easy to break in, we've hiked a lot of miles and no blisters.

-They are super comfortable.

-If we're packing a lot of weight or a little weight we still get the same good results from the boot.

-They are awesome on snowy, wet, muddy, steep trails.

Here's what we don't like about them:

-On the first few miles of my first hike the tongue of the boot awkwardly rubbed against the front of my foot. Not a big deal and hardly worth mentioning, just one of those new boot quirks.

We like these boots, we'd recommend them, and we'd buy them again.

I wore these right out of the box, onto the very rocky, 10 mile, trail. My feet have never, let me repeat, NEVER, felt this good. In spite of having sore toenails, from a previous hike (and long descent) in other boots, my feet did not have a sore spot. I did a long 6 mile descent and my toes tips never touched the boot. I only wish they were a little stickier and lighter.

Asolo hiking boots have changed my life.

I used to wear $40 to $60 hiking boots, whatever was on sale, and they would be okay, would last 2 or 3 years from wearing only on weekends. Eventually the hook hardwear would break or the nylon fabric would get scuzzy.

Then came Asolo. I decided to splurge, a mid life indulgence. I wanted to look good and proud and feel good when I put on my boots, which I wear for ankle stability.

These are such a pleasure to wear in, whether on city sidewalks or Alaska mud hikes or rocky beaches or woodsy trails. I never worry about my weak ankles spraining. I have never sprained my ankles in these.

They fit really well, too. I have hard to fit wide feet, and the regular B width fits me just fine. I think sizing is accurate: an 8 is a true 8.

When I do sprain my ankle while wearing sneakers, then I just wear my Asolos every day for a couple of weeks, and I am healed.

The shoes also look fine even when beat up. I do maintain them regularly with saddle soap and Lexol or Leather Honey.

The quality is just amazing. Not made in Italy though Asolo is an Italian company. Made in Romania but apparently under great training and supervision.

I would never wear Merrell, Vasque, Keen or Kamik again. They just feel junky now. Pay the extra $60 dollars, Asolo is worth it.

I believe they last longer. I am on year two of conversion so we'll see.

Honest reviews on Asolo TPS 520 GV Boot - Women's

So far I like my boots. They are heavy, I haven't weighed them, but they feel like at least 2 lbs. Very good ankle support. Mine need breaking in though, I haven't gotten any blisters or anything but they are really stiff and need to be loosened, which will happen with wear. I bought these because they were highly recommended by the people I work with who are all biologist and wear these boots at least 5 days a week, all year round. I have had trouble with the boots I have bought in the past 10 years as falling apart after 1 year of wear so I am hoping these wont do that. I have tried many, many different kinds so this will be another test. I was told they will last at least 2 years of constant wear. Will let you know if I remember in years.

I live in Alaska, so I'm rough on my stuff. These boots have been taking everything I can dish out--with enthusiasm! They are easily the most durable, best-crafted, most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever owned! Great for hiking or outdoorsy stuff in general, yet still look good enough to wear to dinner.
