so we both agreed it makes sense to send it back.

I am not a runner. I bought these only as beach shoes---to wear going across the sand and to protect my feet into the water. First know, if you are researching this, that the "Ultra Trail" model (this one that you are looking at) has a removable 'sock' in the shoe. The "Ultra Pure" model does not. I couldn't find my usual 8 1/2 size as none of the 1/2 sizes are available. So I went up to a 9. I almost always need a wide size shoe so I figured the 9 would allow for a little extra width---it does. Oddly, removable sock is much too small for my foot, but the shoe runs just a bit large. My wide foot fits absolutely fine in the shoe, but the sock is so tight on my foot that it is difficult to get on and cuts the blood flow off. Overall, I'm absolutely thrilled with the shoes. I now wear them to go out, at times, to do work in the yard, and to/from soccer before changing into my cleats. They keep my feet cool and are extremely easy to clean. I definitely do recommend them, but I might suggest that if you are a runner who normally wears something in a 1/2 size that you may find them a little too big. Since the rubber is very 'sticky' you might end up stumbling a bit. Also, these do make quite a bit of noise when your feet are wet. I will almost definitely purchase another pair, though I would not purchase one with the sock again---which would save me about $10.
