Purchased these shoes for day hikes and couldn't be happier. I had purchased these and the XA Pros 3D to see which I preferred. The XA Pros were nice, and might be a good fit for a real committed trail runner, but for hiking, as soon as I tried on the Synapse I was sold. These shoes were instantly comfortable and I was amazed at the lack of stiffness that normal hiking shoes can have, yet they are still completely supportive for my feet. I would hight recommend these shoes.
I wear an 8.5 in normal shoes and a 9 in running shoes. Knowing that sometimes Salomons can run a bit large I ordered the 8.5 and it worked out perfect for me.

I admit I have a Salomon fetish. I love Salomons. Did I say I love Salomons? I have the Synapse in both the gray and the blue. Salomons are my preferred hiking shoe and these are now my favorite. The Salomon Synapse was worn when the thru hiking record for the Appalachian trail was broken. The toe box is a little wider than the Salomon crossmax trail runners since they are made for fast hiking (or leisurely hiking) and this prevents my toes from feeling squashed. My significant other has the men's Synapse in the greenish color and the men's crossmax neutral in blue gray he loves both of them. He tried other low hiking shoes at both REI and our local outdoor store and none were as comfortable as his old Salomons so he ordered the Synapse as well. Many people have given up both compliments on our shoes since they are generally not sold locally they are unique and stylish.
I also have the Salomon crossmax neutral in every color they make for women and other Salomons. I can color coordinate my Salomons to my outfit. I use the Synapse typically only for hiking and the crossmax neutrals as my everyday shoes.

It took some getting used to the feeling of this shoe... but now I love it. The special sole allows for a natural rolling motion of the foot. The support for heel and toes are great, with the heel giving a little boost and forward thrust. The lacing system also takes some getting used to but it is very efficient for fast on and off once you get the hang of it. I feel like I upgraded to a 21st century shoe for the first time.

I purchased these in the mid and normal (low) rise versions. I have a low volume foot and often have trouble keeping my heel seated in shoes. Unfortunately that was the case with this version of the shoe, but the mid works great for me. I would highly recommend these shoes as the perfect cross between hiking shoe durability and traction, and the featherweight of trail runners.
