These are amazing. I'm not the type to jump on a bandwagon but I have to admit the minimalist running phenomenon just makes sense.I suppose I was slow coming to minimalist shoes because I've gotten the majority of my conditioning through team sports, so I've always been used to being up on the front of my feet to move anyway, and basketball/soccer shoes very have little drop compared to most running shoes. I was puzzled at how hard I found jogging compared to other activities because despite being in shape I always felt like my stride was forced and my postural muscles fatigued prematurely when I jogged, and I always wondered how ultra-long distance runners did it.
Not with these shoes. With these shoes I can run with my natural stride and strike without having an extra inch of heel ruining how my weight likes to come down on my foot, I don't get the tightness in my lower back like I used to, and overall I find these amazing. I'm considering ordering a second pair just so I can wear these for more daily activities and not worry about the wear on my runners.
Couple of notes, however:
I find the Levitas to run over half a size big. I've worn Mizuno for years now and always a 10.5 (US) and they always fit well, maybe even a little tight. I bought the Levitas in 10.5 first and had to return them (which Amazon was amazing with the speed of doing that, I had them the next day, before I could even send the original pair back) and the 10s I got instead still have just slightly more room than I would like.
The problem with this extra room is that the sole of the Levitas is slightly squared at the very toe end, and since the sole of your shoe is hanging straight out beyond your toes almost half an inch, I find myself catching the toe of the shoe on the ground sometimes, causing me to stumble. Seeing the very toe of the sole contoured more in future models would be nice so and if I happen to drag the toe of the shoe on the ground it doesn't catch quite as severely.
The overall quality is good, although there is one rough spot of stitching in the mesh upper of the left shoe on my pair, which seems to have worn smoother, not a major issue. These shoes being so light I was worried about the density of the soles and durability there is some noticeable wear (and a few tears) after only two weeks but the route I run has some especially rough pavement, so I guess that's to be expected. The only other thing I would change about these is maybe broaden the tongue/laces so the upper conforms better to the foot, I suspect it's not an issue for most people but my route has a lot of dips and twists and I change direction often, and I notice the mesh upper gives a little more than I would like when I have to move laterally it's not an issue of support but an issue of the sole of the shoe and the sole of my foot moving in relation to one another when I have to run laterally.
Overall, amazing shoe and I can't fault it just because my use of the shoe is a bit different from most 'real' runners. I have yet to try the Cursoris, but I could see a market for a minimalist shoe that stays firmly in place on your foot even if you have a lot of lateral movement so you can use them for other types of training as well.
I would gladly buy the Levitas again and again though, it really has made me enjoy running as much as sprints and other conditioning.
Best Deals on Mizuno Men's Wave EVO Levitas Running Shoe
If you have made the transition to zero drop or are currently running in a low ratio shoe this Mizuno race/trainer is for you.The upper is supremely comfortable. It is just like wearing a sock.
My only issue is the lace arrangement but it is a minor quibble.
I found them a little on the large side, maybe half a size, that being said I'm still comfortable in these @ a US 9.5 they are 177grams (6.24oz)
If you are fairly efficient with a sub 3 pace you will enjoy these.
The alternative is the Cursoris although I haven't tried them I would be fairly sure they would have similar qualities.
Honest reviews on Mizuno Men's Wave EVO Levitas Running Shoe
The is a brief list of minimal shoes I've worn previously:NB Minimus Road
NB Minimus Trail
Merrell Barefoot
Saucony Kinvara
Vibram Five-Fingers
The Mizuno Wave EVO Levitas is better than any of these by far! WAVE technology makes this low profile shoe feel like I'm running on a treadmill when I'm actually on an outside run. Feels like a sock around your foot with chafing lotion, even though there isn't any. I developed a blister on my first run, but after that, nothing. I've run 15 miles comfortably in these shoes. Highly recommended!
