I had a similar experience switching from the PureFlow1 to the PureFlow2 as I did with the PureGrit1 to the PureGrit2. It is simply a different feeling shoe. It's narrower and it doesn't have the same comfort level as the original PG's, which I logged tons of miles in doing ultra distance trail/mountain runs and races. The original PureGrit outsole definitely needed an improvement because I found the cleats to not be sticky enough on deeper mud or slippery surfaces. With this in mind, it was still my favorite trail shoe because I could avoid problem areas and the comfort factor overshadowed the lack of traction in a minority of spots. Surprisingly, Brooks didn't really improve the outsole with all the style differences in this shoe. It is different, but I don't think it's improvement. I think the rubber is even less sticky than before.

I still trail run in these, but I often find myself using my Innov-8 F-light 195's and La Sportiva Anakondas (and to a lesser extent my NB Minimus) in favor of the PG2's. They are still a comfortable shoe, but they aren't as comfortable as the originals and still aren't grippy enough.

Love the feel of these shoes. Best shoes I've ever owned. Can run a lot longer through the trails with these while looking great! Love how there is room for the toes yet snug fit. I'm using these strictly for dirt trails only.
