This is a nice addition to the Merrell barefoot line. I had been using their Pace Glove and suffered my very first stress fracture in my foot so I decided I needed a little more cushioning. I bought the Arc in the hopes that it would be what I was looking for, still in the barefoot/minimalist line but with a bit more padding.
There is padding but it's not for those who need a more neutral shoe. I so wish Merrell had stated that on their website. It has a raised arch, which if your arch is already raised and you're tilting to the outside of your foot, only causes more supination and therefore, problems (with me, it's my IT band at my knee that never likes that).
Good shoe overall but just make sure you can use it.

I have been on my feet a lot more for the last year because of a job change and it has caused a lot of foot pain for me. I have tried several different sneakers/shoes, but this one is the best for me. It helps me enter the minimalist world without throwing me into a complete minimalist shoe because it offers a bit more support than say the FiveFingers. It offers more arch support and a less restricting toe-box than any of the other comparable shoes I have tried and this helps me a lot. The shoe naturally makes me strike more mid and front foot instead of with my heal and it aligns my body better, improving my posture. I definitely recommend this shoe!

I ordered these after getting a pair my normal size, which was a half size smaller than these. Merrells have become my shoe of choice over the past year. I was a confirmed Clark fan. I now live in Merrell barefoot. As a teacher I don't sit down much and my feet are still happy by the end of the day.
Honest reviews on Merrell Women's Barefoot Bare Access Arc
I love the comfort and look of these running shoes. They're perfect for pavement and smooth flat trails, but be careful on rough terrain. I had a small sharp rock enter the bottom of the heel, where the sole material is soft, and right into my foot. Merrell was very responsive and replaced the shoes immediately. I also have a problem with the minimal tread. They slip easily on damp rocks or tree roots, which has resulted in a twisted ankle a couple of times. I have finally given up running with the Bare Access Arc on trails, and use the Merrell Pace Glove instead.

These are super light weight, have great arch support, and have not left me with any type of blisters. In FL going sockless is great! Buying my second pair :)
