These shoes seemed to stick well to clean rocks (no slime) when crossing streams; they also did well keeping me from slipping off a DRY metal roof (3/12 pitch) while helping build a pole barn. Note that metal roof was still slippy if wet with loose sand on shoes...Cheap Merrell Men's Barefoot Current Glove

I got these not from Amazon, but at a discount (under $70) at an outlet mall. While I am no "barefoot junkie", I do find many of the water-sport shoes are often well ventilated, have soles with good grips, and are extremely comfortable. This was no exception. I own a pair of Vivram 5-fingers, which were interesting although not my favorites (over time I have felt them become stiffer and they are harder to put on). By contrast, my Salomon quick-lace trail shoes are one of the most comfortable ones I own. I wanted a quick on-off shoe with the benefits of being light and water-ready. I had tried some Rip-Curl E-bombs (split toe) which were comfortable but the sole was not that thick for my taste (maybe good for the reef, but not for the road). I found these Merrell and having had great experience with my Merrell hiking boots, I decided to go for them. These fit on really comfortably. The sole is superb: non marking, rubber Vibram soles with an excellent grip. They have a partial mesh construction so I thought they would be relatively well vented: while they do seem well vented, in full honesty I they can get somewhat hot inside. Nonetheless, I am giving them 5 stars because of ease of fit and just plain comfort. I took the liberty of replacing the laces on mine for a set of Salomon's quick laces and am very happy with the upgrade. I believe these shoes would be good for nautic sports (even yatching/sailing, as the sole is marked as "non marking"), for running (if you like the close-to-barefoot feeling), maybe bouldering, trail running/light hiking, and watersports in general. They are stylish enough that they can even be worn as regular "sporty" streetwear. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.
