This is a decent shoe but a poor replacement for the 1012 as New Balance claims that it is. This shoe has nowhere near the support that the 1012 had. I have an ankle that is held together with a plate and screws and need as much support from a shoe as I can get. The 1012 was the best I ever had. I am very disappointed that New Balance stopped production of that shoe and replaced it with this one. Unfortunately I am going to have to start trying other brands now.

I am a heavy runner and these shoes are perfect for me. I am about 250 lbs and they offer stability and support.

I have been an exclusive NB runner for more than 30 years. Loved every pair I had until about 5 years ago. The 1012's were the last good NB I owned. From then on the quality and durability has steadily declined and the price has gone up. The 1013's seem to be the latest motion control shoe. I find that it wears out at about 150-200 miles. Shoes in the past lasted a lot more miles and were better quality. I am afraid NB has gone the corporate route of selling inferior quality product for a higher profit. After more than 30 years of a avid customer for the first time I am looking for another shoe.
Honest reviews on New Balance Men's M1340 Optimal Control Running Shoe
I have purchased NEW BALANCE shoes for over fifteen years and had been VERY satisfied with my purchases until about 5 years ago. Then, I purchased shoes with the model numbers in the 700's and 800's and recently a MX1012 that I found to be rather stiff at first but is now breaking-in nicely. However this M1340 was super-comfortable and supportive right from the start. Highly recommended. The only thing I would now seek is some of those segmented shoe laces that don't untie on their own

Not the 1012 I loved for so long! Not as supportive in my opinion either with a weaker toe box than the 1012.
