I LOVE my N1s. I have already run a pair into the ground (they lasted about 500 miles over the shale rocks of western mass I was impressed). Onto my second pair.

I had been running in Vibram Five Fingers but every time I hit 12-15 miles my feet hurt, so I began the long search for a pair of shoes with a little more cushioning but could satisfy my lust for forefoot running and ground-feel. I tried a couple other brands with similar models, but both ultimately allowed my feet to feel fatigued around the same distance, and were uncomfortable compared to the N1s. The N1s allowed me to keep my proper form that I learned using the Vibrams, while the other brands I wore made my strike feel uncomfortable.

Anyways, onto the experience. I love this shoe, I can't say it enough. It's tough at first. Stiff, and not too responsive. It made me feel like I was wearing hard plastic the first couple runs. I noticed also that my calves got extremely sore and tired the first 2-3 runs. This happened for BOTH pairs the first couple runs, so I am inclined to believe these shoes have a fairly significant break-in period. HOWEVER, once these shoes were broken in, they will propel you forward effortlessly on flats, grip the most slippery hills on climbs, and provide proper support and cushioning to bomb downhills without worrying about rocks.

I recently ran the Pine Mountain 50 mile trail race in Georgia in my N1s. The next day my legs were sore, but my feet felt absolutely great! Ready to go again. I thank the N1s for this. This is one truly spectacular shoe. If you are looking for a transition shoe from minimalism back to a middle ground to scale back up your runs, OR if you like a minimal drop shoe for a mid-forefoot strike, look no further.

I normally wear a size nine for running shoes, this shoe felt a half size too small. Buy a size up

Great shoe, good quality exactly what I expected. the shoe is a shade small but that probably lies with my decision between 10 or 9.5. cheers.

Honest reviews on Pearl iZUMi Men's E:Motion Trail N 1 Running Shoe

other than getting torn to pieces by some scree running i did at badly last week these have been very good to me on the trails. I've had them two weeks and i love the fit (keep in mind you should probably find somewhere to try these on before ordering as they size a bit small) I am an 11.5 and had to buy a 12.5. I like the fit. I like the tread. I like the look. and I'm loving running in an almost neutral shoe (6mm drop, i believe). but yea, i did run some scree and came home with chunky sides and bottom. oh well, shouldnt have been running through jagged rocks anyhow.

I used the 3D fitting tools on http://www.runningwarehouse.com/ to help me decide on what size to order, and things worked out well. I ordered a size 9, the shoe size I normally (most often) wear, expecting to have little extra room for my toes. Primarily used as an aggressive trail shoe, I wanted the shoe to be snug, but comfortable (it is).

Out of the box, I took these shoes on a fast-paced ~3 mile trail run in the morning, and in the afternoon I ordered the Pearl iZUMi Men's EM Road N 2 Running Shoe (which are also phenomenal) in a size 9.5. I went up a half-size on the road version to allow for my feet to swell a bit, and I got the second pair because the 9.5 was marked down to $70 (Awesome!). I got the Road N2 instead of the N1 to give myself a bit more cushioning. When I go for road runs, they are typically quite long (1-3 hours).

As runningwarehouse.com will tell you, the Trail N1 is a semi-firm ride, and the Road N2 is a semi-soft ride. I'm finding this to be accurate, and I'm quite happy with both shoes!

Especially if they happen to be on a special reduced price, I will buy these shoes again, but I may check out the M (as compared to N or H) series, as I am a neutral/midfoot striker that prefers a less "chunky" heel.

I should add that I ran in Vibrams (just the plain old KSO's) for two years, and I switched to these two new pairs of shoes for comfort and versatility. Also, it's nice to not have to slowly prance on the downhills now ;)
