It's a toss up between 4 or 5 stars, but I think "love" is a strong word for these shoes. I like them a lot though, as they suit all my needs satisfactorily.

I'm a fairly experienced runner, and my races of choice are full and half marathons. When I was starting out, I wore Gel Nimbus 13s, and they are bar-none the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. However, they're a little too heavy for long distances, and I tended to get muscle fatigue in my legs around 10+ miles. I bought the DS Trainer 18 because I read the reviews saying they were lighter than most of the other shoes, but more stable and supportive than a racing flat (DS Racer). I'd say that's a fair assessment. They're definitely lighter than the Gel Nimbus, but not as comfortable. The outer sole is narrower, which requires a truer gait. The inside toe box, however, is no more narrow.

Basically, buy these shoes if:

You are an experienced runner looking for something light-weight and durable to train and run long distance races.

Do not buy if:

You are a beginning runner get the Gel Nimbus or Gel Kayano instead.

I've been running in DS Trainer for 10 years. Last year's version, DS Trainer 17 was disappointing with a sloppy fit and ride.

The DS Trainer 18 has returned to the lean strong tradition and has regained its position as my favorite performance shoe.

Im a Marathon Walker. Love these shoes. Light, cool with plenty of flex from heel to toe. Im buying two more pair. I went up a half size. Glad I did. For me they would have been too short at my regular size.

I think i choose the wrong size for me but it was just by 0.5 so im still very happy with this shoes they are really strong and you dont even feel the street thanks to his special design and gel DS

I use this shoe for both training and racing. Recently I ran the Disney Double Dare Races at Disneyland. 10K race on Saturday and a 1/2 Marathon on Sunday and the shoes were great. Very comfortable and just the right amount of cushioning and stability.

The next step is test the high mileage training and racing performance of a full marathon.
