They are the perfect shoe for those seeking a lighter, more minimal shoe with a 4mm drop. It's perfect for distance over tough terrain. I normally run extremely minimalist on trails, but for longer distances or technical Appalachian Trails sections (rocky rocky rocky) this shoe is beast. The rock plate has protected my foot from numerous direct hits with no damage to my foot or the shoe.
The fit and weight are perfect and as expected. This is my new favorite shoe. The old version I had for a year and just could not get behind because it made me run at an awkward angle. These are now my primary shoe.
They hold well in loose stuff as well as going uphill on rocky cliff faces. The lil lugs do wear but I still have good grip and anticipate being able to put 500 miles on these.
I hesitate to say it, but it seems these might be the perfect shoe now. I have no complaints. For reference, I have/currently own the mt-00, mt10, mt10v2, and the original mt110 from new balance, as well as the merrell trail glove and vibram flow. I found that after transitioning from pure barefoot to shod running (moved from the beach to the trails) that I do desire more protection for longer distances. These offer that protection.
Great shoe. Fits true to size. "Run as the water flows"

If you understand the value of minimalism (low stack height, low heel-to-toe drop, low weight, wide toe box) you will appreciate these shoes. I've been running trails in these exclusively for over a year and can't think of any negatives. Weight, breathability, grip, durability, protection, comfort, sockless if you so desire, drainage everything is there and very good. The way I like to think of it if it's good enough for Tony Krupicka it's good enough for me.To be clear these are niche shoes they are not a fashion statement like Nike Free, they are not your typical morning joggers, they would suck at cross fit or the gym or as a road shoe. But if trail running with water crossings, roots, scree and mud is your thing these shoes are it.
Finally, my hat goes to New Balance for being one of the very few companies who makes so many of their models in 2E so you don't have up-size in order to get roomy enough toe box for natural splay. And also for being significantly cheaper than competition AND managing to make some of their shoes (albeit not these) in the U.S.A.
