I purchased these shoes to use for doing water sports in Hawaii. You can't go without some kind of foot protection here because of all the lava hidden here and there, and sometimes everywhere, at the beach. I found that I can also swim ocean laps in these and go without flippers for most snorkeling. They are very comfortable and are at home in the water, no water staying in the shoes because they drain so well. I have tried many other water shoes and these are the best! I would only give one warning to others, I can't keep the shoes tied in the water. This is because of the way I am tying the shoes, not because of the shoes. For me, this turned out to be a good thing, when I am snorkeling, fish love to come and check out my dangling shoe laces. Columbia also makes these same shoes with no laces to be tied if this is a problem for anyone.Discount Columbia Men's Drainmaker Water Shoe

These are not made for creeks or beachs. I assume these are made for people in water sports that just deal with docks, boat decks, skidoos, and open waters since they are definitely not made for sand or gravel. I used once in creek and regreted since. The holes in the bottom of the soles suck in particulates every time you walk and pull them up into the insoles where they get stuck under the fine mesh. It is impossible to get this stuff out! So, once you use in gravel, you have this layer of rocks directly under the insoles that you can see quite well but can never remove. Same way with sand, except sand tends to comes out over time. On the good side, they are well made and very comfortable, and would love to use in the right conditions. For the price, I'll just continue to use my old sneakers for creek shoes and use these as comfortable dry lightweight sneakers, and take it as lesson learned.
