I love Vibram shoes, this is my fourth pair. I've never been a big fan of Velcro for clothing or shoes (except for my toddler's shoes), so I was very keen to try a style with laces.Here's the back-story. I have size 9.5 feet, triple-wide, so fitting has always been an issue. My first pair, KSO's, I opted for a snug fit and after a bit of a break in period they worked well...for a year, then the seams gave out. I've stitched them up a couple times and still have them, but they're shot. My next two pairs, Sprints and KSOs (again), I went one size larger. That's worked for longevity, but the heels don't fit right so much so that I put a heel pad into the (new) KSO's to help them fit better. (I suppose I didn't need to go a size larger for the Sprints, but I wasn't thinking about it at the time.)
The Bikilas....
I got a $100 Amazon gift certificate for my birthday, and settled on the Bikila style, the same (snug) size as my original KSOs.
My toes aren't quite the same profile as the shoes. The big toe is right, and the heal to big-toe-tip distance is right. The curve of the sole is right, really exact in fact, but my second and middle toes were a little squished the first day. After wearing them a bit that seems to be stretching, breaking in. The real issue, though, is the laces! They're too short for my arch and foot width, even fully loosened, and the ends are sewn into a tab. I'm contemplating cutting them off and replacing them, and if they don't stretch a bit over the next few days I'll have to do so.
Pro: Hey, they're Vibrams! Laces, not Velcro.
Con: The laces! They're too tight over my high arch, are pulling the whole shoe tight, and making the shoes uncomfortable.
Update: I cut the laces off and replaced them with regular laces. It worked! They fit perfectly now. Yeay!
