Used for Marathon Training (recently completed the Chicago Marathon in Oct 2012).

Purchased purely out of peer pressure from a running buddy and the price. Not really a NB fan but, wanted to give them a try. During my 20 week marathon training, any long run longer than 9 miles in the shoes would result in a blister on my left foot (only my left foot, and only with the 890s...none of my other shoes). So, I would only wear the 890s for runs less than 9 miles and I was fine. Upon completion of the Marathon, I started wearing the 890s on my weekly long run, and no blisters....so, I dunno. It is a lighter, long-mileage shoe (it looks heavier than it is). The shoe is now in my rotation for long runs.

I am two and a half weeks into these shoes. They felt great, good cushion and extremely lite. Please note that the 890 are design for the mid/fore foot strikers in mind. The heel drop will force you to use your calf more when compare to traditional running shoes. After my first 12 mile run, my calf did feel a little tight, almost to the point of low grade calf pull. May be is just my form, but the pain went away after the 2nd week. I hope they can last for more than 400 miles.

I had transitioned from the NB 993 about a year ago to the NB 890V2. After a short transition period, I grew to love the 890. It was much lighter than the 993 and more stylish as well. I only run about 20 miles a week during training periods, and these shoes are perfect for my pace, gait, and running style.

The 890s I bought were made in the USA, like the 993s. When it was time to replace, I bought another pair of 890V2s off Amazon. Imagine my surprise when they showed up with a made in China label. NB says "To stay competitive and afloat in today's market some key changes in certain shoes were necessary in order to provide the best pair possible to serve it's specific purpose. We do appreciate the feed back, and you can be assured I have passed along your thoughts on our Made in the USA shoes." They still make about 25% or so of their shoes in the US, just not the 890s any longer.

All of that to say, I like the shoe and will likely look for another NB neutral that is made in the USA after this pair wears out.

I run approximately 6-10 miles per week. And I have always enjoyed the fit of New Balances. This shoe is no different. It's light, comfortable, and if it's like any of my previous New Balance shoes it will be durable. Not to mention it looks great! This shoe makes you feel like you're running on your toes, but that's exactly what I like. It may not be for everyone, but it's the feel I enjoy.

I visited a local runners specialty store and tried on a few options. These were the ones that fit just right for my overpronating, flat foot. I ran down the street with them and chose them. I paid a lot for them and felt unsure about the price, but knew that the right shoe wouldn't come cheap.

I came home and did an online search for the shoe and found the cheapest price here (well, via another vendor). I ordered the shoe which matched the shoe I initially bought, and waited for it. It came in a week. It was the EXACT shoe but I found it here for $15 less. To a beginning runner, who might run into a lot of "the right" pairs on my journey, this is paramount to me. (Luckily, I was able to return the other shoes to my local retailer without an issue).

Now, I use this shoe strictly for my daily runs/jogs and my neck no longer hurts the next day. My feet don't pinch at every step anymore and I feel BALANCED with each step. This shoe feels like it was made specifically for my foot. I have wide feet, no arch, and I am a severe overpronator. I will be buying another pair soon. I feel so bad for those who are still wearing the wrong shoe. Mine has worked wonders for me. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

Specifics: the laces are fantastic! They don't come undone and I don't have to double tie them. They may appear a bit large and somewhat bulky but when you walk and run with them, all of that slips away. Having a wide foot, I thought I'd need the wide size but this shoe is spacious enough that I don't need it. The style is fine too, nothing too flashy nor too demure. All around a GREAT shoe!

These were suggested to me at a podiatrist owned shoe store. I went in thinking my custom orthotics needed some tweaking but came out wearing these shoes without orthotics. I was told to "give them 10 days" and I could return them if I didn't feel better. Being pessimistic I tried to find things wrong with them, but I couldn't. The support is so good and so comfortable I put them on as early as I can in the day and wear them straight til bedtime. My back pain is gone as is my heel pain from plantar fascitis. There's enough stability in the shoe itself I no longer have to wear the custom orthotic. I can't recommend them enough. Now, if NB could just come up with a dressy brown shoe, I'd be set. Sneakers don't exactly go with every outfit.

Was having problems with plantar fasciitis and bunion. Wearing this shoe I am able to be pain free while on the treadmill. Durable.

Honest reviews on New Balance Women's WR1012 Nbx Motion Control Running Shoe

I LOVED my NB WR1011 shoes for my step aerobics class. They kept me from rolling/twisting my ankles when moving from side to side. When I went looking for new ones, I was disappointed to find that the WR1011 was discontinued and replaced with WR1012. I went ahead and bought these anyway, hoping they'd fit and feel the same. I don't think they fit as nicely as the 1011 did, but they do keep me from rolling/twisting my ankles. I don't think the arch support is as nice as the 1011 either, but it's adequate. I like more support in my arches. Overall, I feel it's not as true to the New Balance "SL-2" fit as the 1011 was. This shoe has adequate support and still works for me, though.

I am an overpronator who has owned several pairs of the New Balance 1011 women's running shoes. In other brands of running shoes I have had to wear a wide width, but the 1011's had a wider toe box and were a good fit in the regular width. I run road races in distances from 5k to 1/2 marathons. I train on various running surfaces from trails, to 400m rubberized tracks, to asphalt.

The women's New Balance 1011 was the perfect shoe for me. I would get a new pair, take them out of the box and run any surface, any distance, and finish my run with happy, blister-free feet. It was only when the shoes began to wear down from all of the miles I put on them, that I would get a black and blue toe nail on the second smallest toe of my left foot, and a blister on the tip of the middle toe on the same foot. This is when I knew the shoes needed to be replaced even if the shoes still looked "pretty." (A closer look at the heels of the shoes would reveal the outside edges of the shoe had worn down.)

When the 1011's were discontinued I bought the 1012 without hesitation thinking it was an improved version of what I had been running in. I bought the 1012's, put them on, and went out for a 7 mile run on a fairly flat road course. Halfway through the run I knew these were not the same shoes I was accustom to. By the time I finished my run I had a large, painful blood blister on the bottom and side edge of my left foot at the "big toe joint" and the blister on the end of my middle toe was so large it made the toe look significantly longer than my other toes. I have since tried adjusting the laces, pairing them with three different types of "blister-free" socks, and using topical lubricants such as Aquophor. Nothing I have tried has alleviated the problem.

Then I started having quick, painful spasms in my left quad during my runs. I took a couple of days off, ran again, same issue. Yesterday, I took out my 1011's with the slightly worn heels and ran a 5k. No spasm in the quad and no fresh blood in my heavily calloused and peeling blood blister. I came to the conclusion that the 1012's are just not right for me. We are parting company. Whatever New Balance did to "tweak" and improve the shoe was detrimental to our running relationship.

Here is the story. I am a big guy. I am 6'3" (1.9m) tall, and when I started running I was about 245 lbs (111 kg). Every time in the recent past when I had started running it caused me knee problems, particularly in my left knee. I would usually get a couple of weeks into running and then stop from the pain. This even happened on a heavily padded treadmill that had a lot of give. I then read Born To Run, which discusses (amongst other things) the scientific research that supports the notion that we humans evolved to run up on the front of our feet, not bouncing down and landing on our heels on top of gel padding. To demonstrate this, go run up and down a sidewalk with gel padded running shoes. Now take the shoes and socks off and see how our ancient ancestors would have run. You will quickly get the idea that our bodies simply are not built for running on our heels. And this can cause injuries. I spoke with a couple of friends that run, and with their suggestions and opinions on this subject I went into a local sports shop to get "looked at". There I walked and ran for a shoe expert, and she told me that I was just very slightly over-pronating with my right foot. It was so small that I could probably do with or without adjusted shoes. After looking at a few pairs of shoes and discussing the minimalistic trend, she suggested the Kinvara 2. She warned me against going into the minimalist trend too aggressively, as my legs were not used to running with such foot wear. This was recommended as a middle-ground shoe.

It has been about 3 months and I am down to 230, just got up to 10k on my weekday run, and have only had mild pain in my knee. I have pushed myself much further than I ever did running before when I had horrible knee pain. When I first got going my calves and ankles really got a work out. Take it slow if you aren't used to this type of running. But I am really cruising now, and putting a lot of wear on these shoes. In fact I can proudly say I am here on Amazon shopping for a second pair as mine are starting to wear out from all my running!

I really recommend these light little shoes. They seem to have just enough heel padding to get one into the minimalistic style of running, yet offer enough support for those of use that haven't been running for years to enjoy the experience. I can see myself maybe moving up to an even more minimalistic shoe in the future, or I might just stay with these!

I've worn these shoes for Ultra races (Headlands Hundred, Brazen Dirty Dozen 12 Hour), road marathons (Rome, San Francisco) and shorter events (legs of the Hood to Coast Relay) -these shoes have never let me down. For the 100 mile event I did switch to a second pair 1/2 way through. Anyway, each pair was worn for just under 12 hours of running on fairly harsh terrain. For the 12 hour fixed time event I kept one pair on the whole time (over 100 k distance). The shoes are remarkable. I can train in the same shoes I race in. My only complaint is that the material used to make the Upper becomes brittle and then cracks and tears. This doesn't seem to effect the shoes performance but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence either. The upper cracks in the same place every time -the crease just behind the toe box right under the point of the logo. Without the tears this would have been a 5 star review.

4mm heel toe drop. Not quite zero, but about a million times better than most running shoes. Light, durable I only use mine for running, have about 300+ miles, and while the lugs up front have all started to wear flat, the shoe is definitely still usable. Besides this wear, the shoe is in great shape (as all shoes should be) big part of that is simply keeping the running shoe for running.

The new Kinvara 3 is out same heel toe drop, I would have been happy if they brought it down to say 2mm...but if I want zero drop the best options out there seem to be good old five fingers kso's or new balance's new mr00 road shoes. The saucony hattori has a goofy strap and while it is on sale, there have been mixed reviews.

Anyways the Kinvara 3 has updated a few things, made the shoe a hair lighter, split the lugs in the back lateral part of the shoe and strengthened the rubber at the front tip of the shoe. None of this is really worth paying an extra 40 bucks for the new shoe.

I used to have a blue Nike Free Run+ pair of shoes, but those got to small for my feet, and I was sick of the color. While at my local sports shop, the manager, a great friend of mine, said he wasn't getting any Frees anymore other than the TR version. I still wanted a lightweight shoe like the Frees, so he recomended the Kinvara. I bought the black/white version, and I am totally in love.

I've put ~50 miles on them already, and I can tell I love them a lot better than my Frees. I run with my local high school cross country team. They are just as light, but they have more cushioning and support in the mid-sole region. On one review I read, the author calls these a "gateway" shoe, meaning that they are the "gateway" to true minimalistic shoe, like the Five Fingers, EVO, or even barefoot. They are neutral, but fit really good for underpronaters like me. These are also a lot more durable than the Frees, and I am in love with the mesh-like fabric.

I highly recommend these if you are looking for a lightweight running shoe.

I bought the Vibram Fivefingers SeeYa LS with the shoelace. Unfortunately I have wide feet (DD) and this shoe is much too narrow for my feet. I have the proper size for my feet, but the width in the center of the shoe does not give for a wide foot. Otherwise this is a great shoe! I am almost always barefoot and these shoes are like heaven for me.

I miss plain old running shoes. Nowadays it seems like whenever I go to buy a pair, all I can find are "minimalist" shoes which offer little to no arch support. Maybe I'm in the minority but I really have no desire to wear neon colored foot gloves. I liked my basic, neutral running shoes the way they always were solid and supportive. As a person with "difficult feet" I have to spend entirely too much time hunting to find something that works and it's frustrating.

So here we have this new model from Asics, which offers a more traditional design with some modern updates. Like a minimalist shoe this one is lightweight and snug. However, like my favorite running shoes of old, this model also has a firm arch (check that silver arch plug that keeps it from bending in the wrong places) as well as solid springy cushioning. It's also got a removable insole which allows my medical orthotic device to slide in neatly. The material breathes well too. Plus for those of us in the over-35 category the colors are subtle and basic. No neon!

For the price and these are very reasonably priced I haven't found a better buy. If you are looking for a basic neutral running shoe that supports your feet and looks like something an adult would wear, look no further. Good job, Asics.

If you run or walk more than a couple of miles per week, do yourself a favor and do not buy there shoes! Their soles are too thin and they do not offer proper support for running. If you only use the shoes for driving and an occasional visit to the mall, then they are fine. The shoes are well made and they look good. They are just not for running or long walks.

I purchased Spenco gel heel inserts because I wanted additional cushioning under my heel, because of Achilles' tendon issues and some plantar fasciitis.

The inserts helped on both counts.

They are easy to install (I inserted them under the insole, and they worked well. They also stayed put better than some other heel cushions I've tried. They also retain more spring than I'd expect after lots of hard use.

I rated them four stars because they do what they are supposed to do nothing stellar, but clearly a good, solid product.

At the same time, I'd note, though, that I haven't found any five-star heel cushions yet, although I've tried some twos. I'm not sure what a five-star heel cushion would do.

TAKE THE INSOLE OUT OF YOUR SHOE .PLACE THE SPENCO HEEL CUSHION IN THE HEEL AREA OF THE SHOE. THEN, REPLACE THE INSOLE IN THE SHOE...THE INSOLE KEEPS THE SPENCO HEEL CUSHION IN PLACE AND YOU CAN START WALKING AGAIN....BUT, IF YOU STILL HAVE PAIN,SEE A PODIATRIST .DON'T TRY TO LIVE WITH IT,IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE THE LONGER YOU WAIT.

I run 4 miles every day and developed plantar fasciitis in my left heel. Began using the heel insert (on left heel only) over a year ago and the problem has just about disappeared. They seem to last a long time I transfer them from old to new running shoes.

The other day, I ran in new shoes without the cushion I realized it about 1/2 mile into my run when I felt some left heel discomfort. Today I ran in the same shoes with the insert felt great. They make a big difference for me at minimal cost.

Honest reviews on Spenco Gel Heel Cushion

I have horrible pain in one hip because the opposite leg is a little shorter. I used two stacked together as a riser on my short leg side and one on the bad hip side and it does help considerably. They stay in place well and cushion very well alleviating heel pain and hip pain.

These insoles worked great. I was only having pain in 1 heel. I tried the complete shoe insole, but it made all of my shoes fit too tight. I then tried the heel insoles, which is what was recommended by a podiatrist friend. After several weeks of wearing them, all of my heel pain is gone.

I really liked these shoes when I got them. But after 2-3 days started regretting my choice.

The sole is dangerously slippery on wet smooth surfaces. I am not talking about water on marble, but mildly wet surfaces with decent inherent traction like boardwalks. I wore them to the local trail and had to hold on to the railing to stop myself from falling on dew covered board walk.

Also the design shows poor orthopedic adaptability. I have been having intermittent shooting pain on my dorsal foot ever since I started using them. I have never refrained from using any product I purchased. These shoes are the first to deserve the honour.

I have loved north face, having owned their jackets and backpacks including the awesome hyvent alpha jacket. Unbelievable that north face would make such a bad product. Even worse was that my review in their site was not published and the customer support was pathetic.

Pson a positive note, they look descent, durable and have excellent traction on dry ground.

Actually I bought it for my father. At first he thought that the color of the shoes is too fashion for him (complained to the orange color on the shoes). But when we receive the shoes, the color of the total shoes was not that bad, conversely they are pretty fit for many dark color pants like jeans. So my father loves them now

Honest reviews on The North Face Mens 'Ultra Guide' Trail Running Shoe

OK, so I have a couple of pair of North Face shoes for hiking, one a bit light for when the hiking is easy and the other more rugged and supportive pair for when the hiking is difficult. I had also been using the light pair for mountain biking as I use toe clips and not clipless pedals but then I found using them was wearing them out a bit quickly because the pedals also have screws sticking up into the shoe tread to hold the shoe to the pedal.

I decided to get a dedicated pair for biking and since that was the use for them I got a rather light pair, these Ultra Guides.

Well, they came mail order and I put them on to break them in a bit and after about an hour of wearing them around the house and in the garage for light work and through the yard I realized these have to be the most comfortable shoes I have ever bought. And for me they work for mountain biking too! I'm considering converting to toe clips on the road bike so I can be comfortable riding that too. I'm not a balls to the wall rider so the clipless pedals are a little overkill for me anyway.

OK, I realize everyone's foot is different, but mine is very average although just a bit small for athletic men at a size 8. But I don't have a high arch or a low one, bunions or any funny looking things. The other thing I can tell you about my foot is that Salomon ski boots (the very high performance ones) fit me right out of the box, no need to mold them to my foot.

OK, another thing. These were the first shoes I've had in about 6 years that weren't hiking shoes and they are less stable than what I was used to. I do make a point to buy very stable hiking shoes. That was kinda weird for the first hour and then I was used to it. Then, maybe the next ten times I put them on, the first few steps were weird but now I'm used to it and all I can say (again) is that these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had of any kind.

OK, so are there any drawbacks to them? Well, one maybe, if you have the same problem I do. My feet are cold most of the time except in summer. That's just me I guess, poor circulation maybe. I'm 60 now and this has been a problem back to when I was 20. Maybe even earlier but who notices anything except girls when they're a teenager. So, when the weather was cool I couldn't wear them when I wasn't doing much, I had to be exercising to keep my feet warm. Now that the lows are in the low 70s no problem for me regardless.

One last thing. I liked these so much, and now that I've had them for a couple of months, I decided to get a second pair now and put them aside so that I can get maybe 4 years or more out of both pairs. I just didn't want to risk them not being available when these wore out.

And speaking of wear, I don't see any yet but then it has not been long since they were bought.

I've often wondered why shoes, by and large, are not shaped like feet. These shoes are shaped like feet, which makes the wearer look slightly, well, ducky. But they are comfortable, not least because they have really wide toe boxes.

They are also light and flexible, which is nice because they don't have enough rigidity to fight the quirks of my feet. I am no foot expert so I can't comment on shoe minimalism or whether the traditional elevated heel (which these shoes lack) is evil or whatever else shoe hipsters ramble on about. You also get a lot of ground feel. Chalk it up to ignorance but I'm not sure why this is a good thing I wear shoes so I don't have to worry so much about the ground anyway, it's also not a bad thing.

Overall, recommended.

I took these out for some light hiking on both paved and dirt trails this past weekend and had a few observations:

The sole is great for absorbing shock but since it has such big gaps in it, rocks tend to collect in those spaces and must be removed periodically.

After a two-hour hike, my little toes on both feet were in moderate pain as the toe box on these shoes is fairly narrow and there was a lot of rubbing even with medium thickness socks.

Overall, I do like these and will take them out on my next hike or trail run; I will update if there is anything significant to report.

After years of running in Brooks, I decided to try the K-swiss Kwicky Blade-Light running shoes. "Light" is a very apt description. My Brooks Adrenaline GTS' feel like bricks in comparison. I don't usually go for bold color, but these shoes are beautiful (definitely "eye catching!") One of my favorite things about them is that even though they're light, airy, and very breathable, they're also somehow water resistant (and dirt resistant!!!!) My 199 mile relay is rapidly approaching and I'll definitely be sporting these super comfy shoes. These fit true to size.

I had a pair of these that lasted longer than the Brooks Ghost I have trained in the past. I ordered a new pair just in time for the Ironman Coeur d'Alene. These never need breaking in. I wore them once before the race for a 20 minute run. The only blister I had was on the side on my big toe but after 26.2 miles and hot weather you can't complain about that.

These shoes are awesome. I'm getting ready to buy my third pair! I had tried many other running shoe brands, but many of those gave me blisters. I went to a running store in my city and the employee had me try these on. I was initially hesitant because I'd never heard of a runner who wore K-Swiss, but I was soon sold. These are extremely light, flexible, and soft. They are seamless and easy on my feet. And they are very resistant to dirt and water. I like running shoes that keep my feel close to the ground, without a high heel, and these are just what I like.

I went through about 4 pairs of the Foundation 8s and loved them. I didn't like the 9s as much, so I was really looking forward to the Foundation 10.

Turns out they are a completely different shoe, way overcushioned and feel sloppy. More like the Brooks Beast, which I did not care for at all.

The 8 was great, the 9 barely OK, and the 10 sucks. I think Asics went in the wrong direction with this model they should take a page from NB's book with the classic 992 and just keep making the Foundation 8.

I returned them and found a pair of Foundation 8s on the interweb. Will buy all I can get my hands on, then probably switch to a different brand, maybe back to NB.

This is a great shoe. I was recurring shin splints with my old asics that I later found out weren't meant for the foot type. I recommend it to anyone with flat feet.

Best Deals on ASICS Men's GEL-Foundation 10 Running Shoe

I've tried many makes and models of shoes including other Asics. These by far are the best to reduce knee pain and fix how I walk with extreme overpronation. I'm tall and skinny, 5-11 145lbs very fit. The 11 1/2 in medium fit my average sized feet perfect. Even after 2 weeks they still have that new feel and not a broken in one. I'm also 27 and don't want to wear shows that make me look like an idiot which many stability shoes try to do. You know the ones that are like 2 inches tall and very plain/ugly? Well these look good and you can't even tell how thick the sole actually is without really looking closely. They designed the colors and cuts well to hide that fact and keep them sporty. The price is also very fair at around $80. Great purchase.

Honest reviews on ASICS Men's GEL-Foundation 10 Running Shoe

I have owned the Gel Foundation 6, 7, 8, and now the 10. I think the 10 may be a tad heavier, but I have flat feet ans slight pronation. They really work for me, and these shoes have lessened the wear I fell in my knees when on a run. They come in different widths so if they feel like they are "biting" your toes you may have purchased a size that is too narrow. I would buy these again.

My husband went to an expensive running store to get fitted for shoes and these were what was recommended. They cost much less through Amazon than in the stores. He has been buying this same model for a couple of years and they really help him. Prior to finding these, he had terrible pains in his knees when ran. These do the trick and he knows when he needs a new pair because his knees start hurting again. They seem to last him about nine months and he runs about 3 times a week.
