This shoe is great for trail running, but work up to it if you're used to wearing a cushy shoe. You'll definitely feel the ground and have to pick your path a little more carefully but the shoe grips like nobody's business, wet or dry. This is my second pair, though, since the rubber wears down pretty quickly but that's the price you pay for sticky rubber. (Climbing shoes have the same issue.) I wasn't sure, initially, about the tread but the rounded format sheds stones and mud well. I wear thin socks with these shoes to keep my feet dry and comfy (except in muddy conditions...then they just get soaked like with any other shoe except a full-on gusseted-tongue hiking boot). Some folks said the shoes made their feet sweat but I haven't noticed any more sweat than with my old Nike clunkers. The toe box is really wide which is so much healthier for the feet. These are the first minimalist shoes I've had and I really didn't think Skechers would have anything decent in that department, but after trying these on the first time I was grudgingly hooked! Love these shoes!!!

My foot rolls a bit to the outside, and most shoes are not comfortable and do not hold my foot steady. I had tried various other types of shoes, which were not really comfortable or stable. Long ago I had a pair of New Balance shoes which was also wonderful, so I tried these, which have more traction on the bottom good for where I live in the mountains. I wore them to work all day on a cement floor, and another day on a hike, and they are great. I am going to buy 2 more pair.

I'm on my feet most of the day. Last time I wore a pedometer all day I clocked in at seven miles, and most of it on concrete. So I need a sneaker that can hold up to a lot of stress! My feet are a hard fit, for some reason I rarely find shoes that don't rub or chafe somewhere.

These shoes are incredible. They absorb impact, they breathe well enough to dry out fast when my feet get soaked, they actually look pretty decent and not like clunky orthotics. If I were to hike a long distance, these are the shoes I'd wear.

I am a serious runner (1200 miles a year), run in minimalist running shoes (no arch support or cushioning), and have flat feet. As a result, periodically I get pain in one of my arches. Over the years I have collected an assortment of products to deal with this problem, and am always interested in trying new products. I recognize that everyone's feet and needs are different, but for me the Mueller Arch Support relieves my pain immediately and works just fine. Here is what I like:

1. This is more compact and less bulky than products that support both the ankle and the arch. While those products come in handy when my ankle is also bothering me, I like to wear the smallest support possible when I run to deal with whatever problem I have. The Mueller Arch Support takes up very little room in my running shoes, and also is comfortable to wear in regular shoes.

2. This is very simple to use. Just place the small blue pad under the center of your arch, wrap the strap on the inside of your foot (not shown in the picture on Amazon) around the top of your foot, and while holding it in place, wrap the strap on the outside of your foot (which is shown in the picture and has the word "Mueller" on it) over the top of your foot and secure it to the neoprene. Doing that will also keep the first strap in place. While another review notes that there is a "lump" where the two straps cross, for me it is neglible and no different than other products that I own. It certainly has no effect on my comfort in wearing this, whether barefoot, in running shoes, or in street shoes.

3. While the picture shows this support being worn over a sock, you can also wear it directly on your foot. This means that you can wear it while walking barefoot in your house (which I like to do), or under a sock when you go to the office, so nobody will know that you have it on.

4. For me the blue pad is comfortable and provides the right amount of pressure (which is listed as "moderate" on the package), and the two straps are well secured. This also stays in place without slipping when I run, walk around the house, or go to the office. And most important, it relieves the pain. I have read the negative reviews, and can only say that I have not had the experience that they describe.

5. As another review notes, only one comes in a package, which is fine with me because I usually have only one arch that bothers me. Also, the straps are definitely long enough so that one size fits all. On the other hand, I have relatively small feet (size 8 street shoe), but the straps are not excessively long for me.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT returnable. After I ordered it, I saw something else, and decided to return this. But when I clicked on a link to return this, I got a message that it was not returnable, which I confirmed with Amazon customer service. I am glad that I kept it, but just keep the no return policy in mind, which is nowhere mentioned on the Amazon site.

Bottom line: This is relatively inexpensive, and certainly worth a try if you have arch pain. While it may not work for everyone, it does work just fine for me.

I bought this product about a month back and really liked it. I have worn all kinds of arch support and have had surgery on both feet. I wanted something I could plod about the house with. I hate wearing shoes (live in FL)

The only problem I found was in the design. one strap curls around the other to fasten on the opposite side, leaving a lump at the crossover. I fixed this by cutting a small slit in the opposing side and I feed it through the center. Now in sits perfectly flat under my sandals too.

Beware. I figured they were a pack of two (I have two feet) Nope, just the one came..but! I am back for more! Easy wear, easy wash..I have one happy foot :)

These shoes are very comfortable right out of the box.

I had worn-out a pair of Puma Fast Cat's and didn't like the way the fabric heel area separated from the foot bed. These are both more comfortable than the Fast Cat's and the leather-like inner heal area shouldn't have the same issue (I hope).

The color seemed darker on Puma's website, but I think it's accurately reflected in the picture here. These are borderline "old man" shoes (no offense to old men), but the nu-buck inserts break-up the monotone enough to give them some style. I work in a place that is traditionally business formal, but I will use these to dress down suits on casual days. They look good with jeans, as well.

The size does run small (as with most Puma's). I normally wear between a 10.5 11.5 and I ended up getting 11.5 in these shoes, and they are jsut ever so small. A 12 would have been better for me.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase!

If you liked the Gel-Nimbus 13's (as so many people do!), then I think you'll love the 15's. I searched and searched for a replacement pair for my 13's and couldn't find any in my size. I tried the 14's and they felt terrible on my feet. I was so excited when the 15's came out because I read a review that they were similar to the older, more cushy, models. I bought them without even trying them on, and I am ecstatic with how they fit :) I have tendonitis in one of my feet and after wearing these on 10 runs now, I have no pain whatsoever.

I have high arch's & a normal width foot & am a distance runner. I had stocked up on the 12's years ago because they were the best shoe ever. I finally wore through my stash training for 4 half marathons & my first full marathon. I never had an injury aside from normal muscle aches. I credit that fully to wearing the proper footwear for my foot & turning them in when they hit their prime. I heard the 13's had a narrow footbed & when I tried on the 14's I felt like there was no side support. I waited until my local sporting good store got the 15's & couldn't wait to try then on!

I was beyond thrilled with the new Nimbus 15's! I feel like they went back to the basics on this one & restored the shoe to it's awesomeness. It is supportive, cushioned, & attractive. I feel like I'm running on clouds again! I really love the normal lacing that they brought back too! I've taken my 15's on 3 runs so far, & as always with my Nimbus', have not had a single blister. My husband even commented that I should stock up on them & that they were his favorite (as far as looks) of all my running shoes in the past. I got the pink color which is a very neon pinkish coral, which looks great with my red, pink & orange colors that I usually wear. I also tried on a few other recommendations at my local running store (Brooks, Asics Cumulus), but knew from the first try that these were my soul mate shoes again. If you have high arch's I would recommend these all the way! I'm in love with them!

I was so excited to get my new pair of Asics, but alas, it's not for my foot. I wore it one hour around the house and my feet felt like they're burning. I have:

I thought this shoe with its plentiful cushioning would be right, but I wouldn't take a chance on something that hurts after a half hour, so I sent them back. Let me preface this review by saying: running shoe fit is a very personal thing. This is my first running shoe, and after spending some time trying on various pairs at the store, I strongly agree with others who've told me this. If you're not familiar with the fit of this shoe, in this version or prior versions, I recommend comparing it, on your feet, to to other shoes before you take it outside the house.

Every online wizard I tried said I needed a neutral shoe, mostly because I am an underpronator (i.e., I tend to run on the outside of my feet). Because I run less than 20 miles per week and am not a heavy person, the wizards were mostly steering me toward neutral shoes with lighter cushion. Every single online wizard I tried suggested the Brooks Ghost and the Asics Gel-Cumulus for me. I tried both of these shoes in the store, and neither kept me from running on the sides of my feet.

So then I tried the Brooks Glycerin and the Asics Gel-Nimbus (along with some other shoes that I liked less than both of these). For both shoes, the salesman was most pleased with the pairs that were a full size (not just a half size) up from my normal shoe size. Feet swell when you run, so you need the extra room. Plus, I suspect this shoe tends to run a tad small to begin with.

Once we went a size up, I found the Glycerin too wide for me. Although the toe was the right distance from the front of the shoe, the toe box felt too big. And even with a runner's knot, my heel didn't feel secure. Maybe it was because the shoe wasn't quite snug enough, but I wasn't truly feeling the cushion the Glycerin was known for. It could be I needed a narrow fit in this shoe, but I never got around to trying that.

I found the Asics Gel-Nimbus to be a slightly narrower shoe than the Brooks Glycerin. Despite being a size larger than I normally wear, I still feel the soft pressure of the cushion against my feet. When I run, I feel the cushion under my arches--which means I'm running over my arches and not on the sides of my feet! My feet feel so much more comfortable and lighter than they did in my prior shoe. Every time I slip my foot in, I'm once again amazed at how soft they are.

Summary

Hoka One One (pronounced Oh-nay, Oh-nay) has come out with an oversized shoe with little heel to toe drop. If you can get over others giving you a hard time about the shoe, it is a great shoe with maximum cushioning. While it is a little heavier than most shoes, it is surprisingly light for the size. If you are a midfoot striker, can handle a little bit of good natured ribbing from friends, and can handle the price, then this is a great shoe. Actually, one of my favorite.

Specs

Sizing. I would suggest buying a half (to almost a full) size bigger than your normal shoes. I wear a 9 ½ to 10 in dress shoes, and the 10 1/2 fits perfectly in the Hoka.

Heel to Toe drop is 4 mm.

Weight is 11.5 oz. for a size 9. This compares closely to the Asics Kayano at 10.9 oz. for a size 9.

Pronation Control is neutral to stability.

The review

This shoe is pricey, hard to find, wears down quickly and will attract some good natured ribbing since it looks so different (Moon boot running shoes, Platform running shoes, etc.). Why am I even bothering to review it then? Simply put, it is my favorite running shoe.

I have been told that originally it was designed as a trail shoe. Personally, I don't like it as such. While it did give a great cushioning for when those sticks and rocks, it didn't give me a great feel for the trail floor. So it seems I stumbled, a lot. Perhaps I would get used to it, provided I didn't break anything in the meantime.

As a road running shoe, and especially on concrete, when you can't help it, it is my favorite. Period. It is like carrying the soft track with you in a heavier than most, but surprisingly light shoe. The size 9 weighs in at 11.5 oz. This is close to the Asics Kayano which weighs in at 10.9 oz. for a size 9.

Where to Find

This is a tough shoe to find but Amazon has it!

Toe Box is very nice and roomy. If you like to splay your toes a little while running, then you'll love it.

Running Hills. The Bondi B is an amazing ride going downhill. You truly would have to experience it to fully appreciate it, you seem to fly effortlessly, an incredible feeling. Although the website suggests the same going uphill, I found them feeling a touch clumsy.

The Upside

5.) Easy on your ankles, knees and hips

6.) Will encourage your friends to give you a hard time since it looks different, especially if you're short . . . "oh wow, elevator shoes for runners!"

Product Improvement Recommendations

The two items I would suggest are the leather strap that goes around the top of the foot at the bottom of the laces could be a touch looser. I have purchased two and both are tight and uncomfortable at first. This loosens up, but we shouldn't have to do so.

The other would be to make it wear longer. At that price it should last 500 miles, at least. The current model may make 300.

It perform perfectly between 50 mile and 250 mile, but after that, the cushion in the fore feet area is down, which hurts my feet. Easy five stars here. I broke these in on six miles of muddy trail straight out of the box and I couldn't be happier. I wear a 10 1/2 D and have neutral pronation. I ordered these in 10 1/2 and they fit perfectly. I really like that there is plenty of room in the toe box but the sole is still firm. The traction on these is great and really stick to the trail. The shoes also feel really light as far as weight goes. On paved ground, you can feel that you are running on thicker tread, but it is still a smooth ride on pavement while trying to get to the trail. I think the color does look good on these. The last 2 pairs of trail shoes i tried were Pearl Izumi and these Mizuno shoes are much better, a nicer fit, and much more comfortable. If these become anything less than awesome while I am running on them, I will update this review.

I ordered this shoe hoping to get a more sturdy barefoot running shoe that would also be easier on my feet and back while working. My Saucony Hattoris are not so appropriate for a hospital setting and have also shown signs of wear and dirt (tho' I find them great for running and was hoping that the Evo's would be even better).

I was prepared to be blown away, given the high price of the shoe. Instead, the first disappointment came with the yellowish discoloration around the area of the laces. I assume that some heat is applied to the shoe to stick it together and that this might be the cause, but I ordered a white shoe, not a stained white shoe.

With my Saucony barefoot shoe, I tend not to wear socks, but with this shoe, the inside tongue area had too many stiff, hard ridges. I ran two miles and came away with painful sores at the base of the big toes. The hard areas are just at the point where the toes flexthat is, in the wrong spot (at least for my feet). The toe box runs narrow, and loosening the laces quite a bit did improve comfort, but really -I don't see why this couldn't have been addressed by the designers. I will try these again with socks after everything is healed.

Overall, I like the look of the shoe, and I supposed that I'll eventually get good use out of these at work, provided the socks are thick enough. As for running, I may just stick with the Hattori's. The soles are more flexible and the top of the Hattori -comprised mostly of a woven fabric -is both durable and comfortable. The Evo top is made of some kind of plastic honeycomb mesh, reminiscent of crocs. It's appropriate for a hospital unit, and -as I said -should probably work fine there eventually.

There are serious design flaws here for barefoot runners. I mean, concern over skin integrity is the whole point of going "barefoot" in shoes as opposed to barefoot. And the yellowing around the laces is unacceptable! I'd be curious to know if this happens with all of the white ones. If so, Vivobarefoot, fix this!!

I have the Evo II in blue and love it. This shoe, the Evo III in white, arrived with a yellowish discolored tongue on both sneakers. For the price, this is unacceptable. It also seems to run quite a bit larger and wider than my Evo II. I am a 10M 42 in the Evo II, and the 42 was too big in this Evo III. The plastic eyelet hole for the laces ripped out on my latest pair within a few days. I'm sticking with the Evo II and sent these back immediately. Amazon has a great return policy and is continuously quick to respond to emails and give fast processing of my returns.

Disclaimer: I usually run 30-50 miles per week either barefoot or in Vibram FiveFingers.

Though they're racing flats, these are great all-around running shoes for forefoot-strikers when the need for something over the bare minimum is needed. So far, I've done a couple of five mile runs in these and one half-marathon distance. They've accrued about 40-50 miles, some on asphalt (without the spikes in), some on trails.

They are fantastic. I have average-to-slightly-wide feet. I sized up by about half a size and that give me plenty of room in the toe box. With the (included) spikes in, they give killer trail traction. They definitely allow a solid fore-to-midfoot stroke without encouraging (the biomechanically more strenuous) heel striking. I bought these shoes for my son for his cross country meets and he loves them. Super lightweight the arches are a bit low but with inserts they're perfect. I've been buying ASICS running shoes exclusively for more than 10 years and swear by them.

They do run a bit small. I had to return them so I can exchange for one size bigger. I like that it brings the spikes seperate for you to put on if you want to run on terrain. They can be used with or without the spikes.

This is a very comfortable, lightweight shoe.

I purchased the red and silver.

It also appears to be the same base shoe used for the new Spiderman costume (2011). Modify at your own risk!

They fit perfect if you purchase these running shoes. You should get them a bigger size. im 9.5 but i got them in 10.

I actually bought these shoes for my daughter because her previous GEL shoes hurt her feet. She put these on right out of the box and has not had a single complaint (and she complains about EVERYTHING) about them and she wears them EVERY DAY!

I can't think of a better endorsement at least as a walking shoe. She doesn't run because of a weight problem but she walks all of the time and she really gives these shoes a workout.

I have always been an ASICS fan, however this particular model seems to wear down fast. I purchased these just over a month ago. I walk 1 to 3 miles every day, and the tread is almost worn already. I opted to purchase the Brooks Ghost 5 shoe since the treads are reported to not wear easily. For daily use though, these are comfortable and a true, good fit.

I got the galaxy 5 to train a half marathon... I love the stability and gel cushion.. Slope back to front is moderate and I appreciate that too..

Overall a very good price for a training shoes.. If you're more serious and you want to go up 26 or more miles, you need to go with mizuno, saucony or puma..But if you're willing to replace every 200/300 miles max, it's a good option...

I ran 4 miles, just to do review. These will go in my closet until my Cumulus 12 pair wears out. I wish I could've found my size in that same sneaker, but everywhere seemed to be out of my size. This shoe seemed alike in fit and when I was walking. When I ran, it seemed alittle tighter in the heel, but not too big of a deal. I also bought the Gel Frantic 6 with this Galaxy 5, I liked that one more. I have a neutral fit, size 11. Overall a good shoe for the price, around $40.
