They are an open fabric, so let in a ton of sand if you are walking or running on the beach or sandy trails. I walk a lot in arroyos in New Mexico and will have to buy something else that is not hot but sealed better.

Fabulous! I bought four pair--two blue and two green. I have plantar fasciitis and am able to comfortably wear my orthodics in these shoes. The shoe is very comfortable and lightweight. It has room in the toe box and doesn't pinch my toes. I wear the shoe everyday even though it's considered a hiking shoe--it's that comfortable. I bought these shoes for hiking and haven't gone yet, so I can't really comment on that but I have walked in them a few times and like them a lot. They are lighter than other Adidas hiking shoes I tried. I would say that these run true to size (some Adidas run big). I am between a 7.5 and 8 and ordered a 7.5 knowing Adidas run large and these are almost too small for me. They will be find to walk/hike in but I don't think I could run in them. I have been looking for this particular shoe for some months. My original search, a few months ago, found it to be sold out, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found it in stock at Amazon another surprise was the reduced price tag. Needless to say, I jumped on it!I already have Adidas Sambas (and have worn them for years), and another pair of Adidas hiking boots. I have found the fit and comfort of Adidas to be consistent from shoe to shoe. I love the striking half-green color, and there is ample arch support in this shoe to make it comfortable on the trails, as well as knocking about town. It provides both function and style. Great job, Adidas! Give it a try, you will be highly satisfied.
