After a bout with a serious heel problem, I was told by my doctor that it was most likely caused by my loafer-type shoes and lack of heel support they provide. He told me to buy some shoe inserts to raise and cushion my heels. After trying several different types from different manufactures I decided the best ones for me were these Dr. Scholl's gel cups. Their main benefit is that they stay put in the back of my shoes. The other brands kept moving around and I would have to take my shoes off to adjust the inserts every several hours. My only problem with them is they don't last as long as I would like (for me about 6 months of intermittent use) but I'll swap that minor issue any day for their much better ability to stay in place.

I have a standing desk and started to experience heel pain so I had high hopes for these heel cups when I read the reviews. However, when I put the inserts into my walking shoes, I felt...zero difference. So I tried it with a pair of pumps, thinking maybe my walking shoes are already doing everything to support my feet, but surely I'll feel a difference with the pumps. Well, it did cushion my heels a bit, but not enough to make up for the inconvenience of having to adjust the heel cups every time I step in and out of the heels because the sides of the heel cups would curl in. Another annoying thing is that when I wear socks, it picks up lint / fibers from the socks and when I'm bare feet (like in heels), the gel cups stick to my feet. I saw that Dr. Scholl's offer a satisfaction guarantee / refund so I will update this review after seeing how they handle my request for a refund. I also threw away the cardboard piece with the UPC label on it so I'm not sure if they'll honor the refund request. But I still have the other two (b/c amazon sells these in sets of 3), which are unopened, so we'll see.

8/13/12 Update: Received my rebate check for the full amount I paid. Bumped up a star for honoring the satisfaction guarantee.

I have used these gel inserts for a year now. They make it walking easier on your feet and knees. I wouldn't go without them or a similar type. They do wear out after a while but last about 6 months depending on how much you use them. They do have a left and right insert so they slip if you don't put them on right. You do have to adjust them before walking as even with the right side on the right foot they slip a little but usually stay in place if you adjust them when you first go out. I like Dr. Scholls products.
