I'm not planning on doing a lot of running in these, as I have other shoes I like for running. These are mainly for walking, and feel great. I usually stick to Nike Free, Adidas Climacool type shoes.. and these are a nice addition to that collection. They are just as light, if not lighter, than the Nike Freerun 3's that I have. They have a little more support on the sole, which I like. With the Nikes, I sometimes feel there's a little too much play with the way they designed their sole. These feel solid, light, and are VERY breathable... which is what I look for in an everyday shoe.
If you like the Nike Free or Adidas Climacool style of shoes, you won't be disappointed with these. They have that same minimalist feel, with better support, and much more roomy. If you have wide feet, you'll LOVE these shoes. I'm a size 11 1/2, but always need to go to size 12 for Nike. With these, 11 1/2 fit perfectly.
Another thing I like about these, and New Balance in general, is that they are made in the United States. The construction is top notch, whereas Nike is hit and miss with their quality. My Nikes last maybe 2 years with normal use. I still have a pair of New Balance from 6 years ago that are still holding up. I'm just glad New Balance is starting to make shoes that actually look good ;)

I ordered the Grey/Lime version size 8.5 2E of these New Balance MX797 shoes, and I think they were a fantastic value for the price I bought them at. 5 stars for the great fit and for being USA made. Here's the reason for the 4 stars:
A relative tried on my shoes and wanted a pair, so I bought the "Black/Silver" version of these shoes and was very disappointed when they came in. I ordered a size 8.5 2E like mine and the width looked and felt like a D instead of a 2E. Also when I looked at the tags of the "Black/Silver" version of the shoes, they were made in China and turned out to be a different model called MX797BK2. The "Grey/Lime" shoes were made in the USA and are the model MX797SL. In fact, I noticed before buying the second pair of shoes, that the pictures on Amazon were mildly different in shape and design than the first pair of shoes I ordered, but thought the fit would be the same anyway.
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT:
If you are ordering the [BLACK/SILVER], [BLUE], or [DARK GREY/YELLOW] colored versions of this MX797 shoe, be aware they are MADE IN CHINA and are [MODEL# MX797BK2] according to the pictures posted on Amazon. The fit is TIGHTER (size 8.5 2E feels like 8.5 D), and the treading underneath and overall design is actually different than the other colors. In essence it is a completely different shoe and should not necessarily be grouped together without some sort of description giving the differences. The colors and design look great, but the fit is something to be weary of if you have wide feet. Also it is not made in the USA if that's not your cup of English Breakfast.
If you order the [GREY/LIME], [BLACK/BLUE], [GREY/ORANGE], [WHITE/BLUE], or [GREY/RED] colored versions of this MX797 shoe, they are MADE IN THE USA, and are [MODEL# MX797SL] according to the pictures posted on Amazon. The fit is accurate as the 8.5 2E feels like an 8.5 2E. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if your size is still available in any of these colors for wide footed people looking for a nice light shoe for walking/jogging/running from an axe murderer/using ATP in general.

I have been looking for a pair of lightweight cross-trainers for some time. The rest of my family rave about the Nike Free Runs that they have, but since I am cursed with wide feet those shoes are not an option for me. I have always liked New Balance runners so when I saw these available I decided to give them a try. Happy to say these are great!I am using these shoes exclusively for indoor training and they felt super comfortable right out of the box. They had no hot spots right from the start, but admittedly they feel a little better after a few days of "breaking in". These shoes are very lightweight and the mesh allows for great air circulation to keep my feet cool. The sole is flat with good grip which suits my needs fine, but seem softer than other cross-trainers I've had so only time will tell how durable the bottom is. The construction is excellent, as is the case with all of my New Balance shoes.
I would recommend this to anyone with wide feet looking for a minimalist-style shoe!

**Before I get started, a quick guide that could really help you decide what shoes are a perfect fit**1stDo you overpronate? (the inner part of the foot goes inward and hits the ground first when you jog)
2ndDo you underpronate? (the outer part of the foot hits the ground first)
3rdAre you neutral? (The left and right side of the foot hit the ground at the same time)
4thNow you have to determine from back to front what part of your foot hits the ground first.
5thIf your heel hits first when running you have a (heel-strike)
6thIf the middle of your foot lands evenly on the ground you have a (mid-strike)
7thIf you lead with the front of your foot when running you have a (fore-strike)
1. Generally speaking a (heel strike) could potentially have the most problems due to way the foot hits the ground, especially when coupled with other factors like overpronation, and being overweight (This type of runner should be the most cautious about choosing the right shoe. Generally you need specific support types ie. under or overpronation support and maximum cushion specifically in the heal) Side note: If you only heel strike when (walking) NOT (running) you do not need to be as concerned as its common for people to lean further back when at slower speeds vs leaning further forward when jogging or running.
2. A (mid strike) wants a shoe with more mid support and generally speaking has mid to high arches. This running style is very biomechanically efficient so you dont need to worry as much about support or cushion allowing the shoes you get to generally be lighter and more geared for speed and flexability, this does not mean the shoe wont be as comfortable as one with more cushion it just means you wont need to rely on the cushion at key points of your foot to over correct an unsound foot strike.
3. A (Fore strike) an efficient strike for very long distance running. this type of foot strike is best fitted for support more focused on mid to forefoot, and is the perfect candidate for a minimalist type shoe.
Obviously every person has their own preferances this was just a guideline to help with specific terms and references to all the confusion that often surrounds shoes.
Actually the majority of people I know and work out with generally like the heavily cushioned ride. Also you can always add or remove the inserts that come with the shoe and upgrade them for better cushion or support, or another trick ive learned is to add cheap dr scholls inserts under the origional inserts giving you two layers, just make sure you go up a half size to accommodate the extra insert.

NOW FOR THE REVIEW.... about 1 year ago I decided I needed to get into shape for a recent cruise to the carribean so I bought the p90x program and then realized I badly needed new shoes to keep pace with this high intensity workout. So I educated myself on shoes with alot of time and research and bought several different shoes on amazon and at the local sport Chalet, slowly adding to my collection of shoes over the year. Im 6 foot 185 lbs I have a neutral foot with mid to high arcs, here are the shoes from best to worst that I found work really well for me.
1. NB Mx797 Version 1 (5 star)Best shoe for 60 bucks! Its almost like a glove for my foot, perfect fit!
2. NB 890 Version 2 (5 star)My favorite shoe in the 80 dollar range, great all around shoe.
3. Saucony Kinvara 3 (5 star)Great stability and durability at around 7 oz my favorite minimalist shoe.
4. Asics gel blurr33 (4.5 star)The foot is a tiny bit restricted for my purposes but very comfortable
5. Asics Noosa tri 8 (4 star)My favorite looking shoe with the most compliments(Storm/lightning/black/color) but the tongue moves around a bit too much to be a perfect 5.
6. New Balance 750 V1 (3.5 star)The tongue is flimsy and the shoe tends to roll outward, but its still light.
7. Reebok Realflex (2 star)Bottom line my feet hurt when im done wearing them.
These mx797 Version 1 are the best shoes Ive ever owned for under 60 bucks! NOT the newer and cheaper made Version 2! Not sure why they are sold together??? In the picture the V1's are the last 5 shoes and you can tell there is a clear difference in design.
The Version 1's are extreamly well balanced, well made, fairly light at 9.1 oz and comfortable. The heel is lower to the ground and offers plenty of support making them perfect for side to side movement. The toe box mesh lets the foot breath and has plenty of room for all size feet, yet it hugs the top of your foot preventing any sliding around. They have the perfect balance of support where you need it and flex where you want it making them ideal for crossfit workouts. My foot is more on the narrow side and has high arches and most shoes I own become worn very quick at the pressure points of my foot, but these finely crafted shoes have been reinforced in all the right spots with quality materials. The shoes fit exactly as expected so no need to worry about going a half size up or down and they offer 2E for people with wider feet.
Ive been working out in these shoes since early Jan 2013 and they have held up really well to my rigorous 5 day a week workouts, they look almost as new as the day I recieved them.
Now keep in mind these are designed as a lightweight neutral shoe with a little extra support mostly for crossfit type training where your moving your feet up and down and side to side, these are not specifically geared for running, although I do some light jogging around 3k distances and they sustain me quite well, but the cushioning is not heavy on these so to add a little extra cushion for my joggs I went to the local wal-mart and picked up some gel inserts and wow these puppies went from comfortable to extreamly comfortable. These shoes are a steal for $60.
But for those looking for a ton of cushion right out the box or a maximum amount of support meant for running, you might want to look into Asics nimbus, or cumulus, and the noosa tri 8 is great choice if you like a solid running shoe with some flare. New Balance makes one of the most popular all around does everything running shoe which is the 890 v1,v2 or v3. Yet another one of my favorites is the Saucony kinvara 3 its my top pick for a minimalist type ultra lightweight running shoe. All these shoes are best in there class and in the 100 dollar price range but are more geared for neutral runners who like to rack in some serious shoe mileage.

Seams are glued on shoe and top layer on outer edge came unglued after 2 months. I only use these shoes for cross training at the gym, nothing else...Simply, don't buy, and spend a little more quality as this is junk 'made in china' !
