I have had increasing difficulty with my legs and feet after years of avid running. Tried Avia and Nike and others and things just kept getting worse. Bought the Altra's after seeing reviews on the web and they are super! Have enjoyed running more than any time in the past few years; times are improving; and joints and feet are feeling great. Couldn't recommend them more highly.

I hesitated in buying these shoes because there was no local store where I could try them on.

I finally pulled the trigger and man am I glad I did. I wear a size 12, and these fit just right. The best part of these shoes is easily the wide toe box. I have only been running for a year and a half, and have experimented with lots of shoes. Now that I have tried this shoe on I'm not sure I can ever go back to another one without wishing it had the same last.

I am 6', 185, but my forefoot is pretty wide. Shoes like the Saucony Kinvara (which is a great shoe) are nice, but too narrow for my foot and cause hot spots/blisters on runs longer than 4-5 miles.

This shoe has a nice, semi-firm ride, which I personally like. It has cushioning and protects your feet/legs from excessive impact and I don't feel sore after long runs wearing this shoe. Be aware, though, that the ride is not a soft/squishy one so if that's what you're looking for this might not be the shoe for you.

If you have a wide forefoot like I do I don't think you'll find a better shoe than an altra.

Best running shoes I have ever had. I have done the minimalist thing for a few years now, and for the last year I have had the Instinct 1.0s. I put about 400 miles, and thousands of tons of olympic lifting on them until the materials just wore out. Love them, and if zero drop design isn't enough to convince you, I REALLY love the toebox design. It does make your toes spread out naturally. Some other companies are moving to that shape, but nothing as profound as the Altra style. You will need to take a good look at your running form, these are not designed to accommodate heel strike runners, but you should be progressing towards a chi-running/pose-running style anyways if you're serious about running.

I have been running in five fingers and minimums for years. These shoes are by far the best I have used! 1 mm of cushion makes a huge difference

As you probably know already, these are zero-drop pseudo-minimalist running shoes. They have far more cushion than a traditional minimalist running shoe (if you'll pardon the near oxymoron). But they have a foreshortened toe with extra width to allow for your toes to spread. Those features in combination with the zero drop give you a minimalist feel with enough cushion to go on longer runs. This is the idea, and so far I've found them to actualize it. I run 7-9 mi in them every day or two this summer, and I love them. They were comfortable from first trying them on. My feet feel infinitely better than they did after trying to take my NB minimi (pl?) on long runs, but the feeling of contact with the ground is also infinitely better than my pair of yesteryear Niki minimalists. I highly recommend.
