I've recently started kayaking and was looking for a good non-flip flop shoe to wear while paddling. I wanted something sporty and not "granola-looking" and these really seemed to fit the bill. I purchased the Ash/Aqua color in a 5.5. In regular sneakers I'm usually a size 6 with socks, and in heels or flats I'm a 5 or 5.5 so I decided to err on the smaller side since I planned to wear them sock-less. This was way too much thinking but I really wanted these exact shoes and no local stores carried them in stock.

The shoes came pretty promptly. The color is true to the photos online. If you didn't notice though, where the back strap is, the material is like a nude stretchy fabric that doesn't quite match the gray cutouts on the top. It doesn't bother me but just FYI. I was so disappointed when the tops of my toes hit the front end of the shoe. I had to basically keep my toes scrunched up the whole time.

So I tried to wear them in the river once to see if they'd stretch out or if I could learn to live with the tight toes, but it just wasn't going to work out. I purchased a size 6 to compare the two in fit and comfort. When the new shoes came, they were TOO BIG!!! The size difference between the 5.5 and the 6 looked to me like way more than half a size. I looked up a new shoelace pattern to tie them tighter and that helped enough to keep them on. I wish the back straps actually did more to that end, but they honestly seem to be mostly decorative.

I've worn my shoes on two kayak trips so far and they have worked out great. They don't dry miraculously fast or anything, but they are comfortable and stay on my feet. I'm looking forward to wearing them on a hiking + paddling trip, to see how they do then. But for now, they are definitely my go-to shoes for river field trips!

P.S. I also bought the Keens Venice H2 (in a size 6) and I love them. It remains to be seen which of the two I end up gravitating to over time.

Description of product completely leaves out the fact that the soles of the shoes come with drainage holes. This water shoes leaves out that it will keep water out of the sides/top but completely let water in through the sole. All Merrell barefoot shoes can be worn in water and machine washed. Upon reading the description for this product I figured it was meant to keep water out given the waterproof upper part of the shoe. I have another pair that I use daily in the spring/summer, especially for hiking where I have to cross streams and they're fantastic. Those have held up great to abuse and washing. I got these to use in fall/winter due to the description of having a waterproof upper figuring that the soles would also be like regular shoes and not have holes. It'd be nice to have a pair of shoes that I can use in colder temperatures that will keep water and mud out without being bulky like traditional hiking shoes. Had the description of these shoes been complete I would not have purchased them. Unfortunately I wore them before I realized the holes were in the soles and can no longer return them (the drainage holes are not incredibly noticable). Now I have two pairs of shoes for spring/summer and still without for winter. The shoes are very comfortable. However, product is not accurately represented in the description on amazon or Merrell's product website hence the three star rating.

These water shoes are super cute and super comfy. I wear them camping and to the river all summer long. With these shoes I can jump out of the boat into the water, and then take a hike on land. I have never experienced any blisters or sores from prolonged wear of these shoes and they do stay comfortable. The only drawback is that they are moist inside. So after wearing them for a while my feet get pruned up and sometimes peely. I would just recommend taking them off at frequent intervals to let your feet breath.

Honest reviews on Merrell Women's Barefoot Swift Glove

After reading lots of reviews of this shoe, I decided it may be a good shoe for me for workouts. The shoe has an odd fit at the heel. The strap in the back of the heel pushes your foot to go forward and your toes cram in the front leaving about a half in in the back of the shoe. Wish I could have returned them, but wore them one day. I guess they will sit in my closet!
