My girlfriend and I took a cruise to Bermuda and were looking for water shoes that were comfortable and functional. These shoes far exceeded our expectations. As a previous owner of Merrell shoes, I know how comfortable they can be. We each had a pair of these shoes and we went from the ocean to a pool to swim with dolphins right on to our moped. The never chaffed or blistered our feet. I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone who is thinking about getting these. My advice is GET THEM.

I bought a pair of the older version of these, specially for a 10 day ultralight trek on the argentinean coast, in summer. It involved hot weather, river crossings and walking on water on high tide.Teamed with some nike dryfit socks, they worked flawlessly. Really comfortable on the march, keeps your feet cool. the drainage mesh starts right on the footbed so it drains almost completely. The footbed has small drainage squares that absorb the remaining water, so it`s not a problem, and you don't need to take off your shoes. The inside is composed of mesh and a neoprene style material. Very comfortable and quick drying. Interfaces perfecty with sock, no hot spots or friction points
It was a strange elastic cord that holds a webbing system, that in turn acts as speedlace. I don`t understand the need for the elastic. You`ll get pebbles and gravel inside every so often. After getting out of the water, they`d dry to a comfortable point in about 4 km, at 30ÂșC with soft wind.
The vibram sole somehow lacks traction on wet surfaces. This is very noticeable, being a waterborne shoe
After the march, I could notice some loose stitches and damane in the neoprene fabric where the achilles tendon stands. The footbed compressed at the heel and the arch, no longer providing cushioning. All this after a 310km, 10 day march.
Overall, if you need ventilation, quick drying, and you don`t mind the durability issue, and you need a great shoe for a specific task, this one is good to go.

I took these shoes on a 12 day hike intensive raft trip through the Grand Canyon. They were outstanding. Why I liked them alot:
Orthotics: I use Smartfeet orthotics in my shoes to give me arch support. The Smartfeet slipped right into these shoes
Protection: I don't like to get cuts or scrapes on my feet. I hiked through rocky river beds and even did some free climbing in these with excellent protection.
Drainage: I was in and out of the water all day long. These shoes drained out water exceptionally well even with light wool socks and the smartfeet.
Comfort: I found these shoes to be very comfortable for all day wearing both on the river and hiking side canyons with a day pack and lots of rock scrambling.
Traction: These shoes stuck to rocks just fine whether wet or dry.
A couple of other things to note.
I have narrow heels and this shoe fit great because of the heel cup and lacing system.
If you tend to drag or bury your toes when walking in deep, dry sand the shoe will fill with sand due to the mesh panels in the top of the toe box.
I highly recommend these if you want a water shoe that feels and fits like a good running shoe and drains water like a sandal.
