Even during times when there were no heel problem, I used them in my walking shoes, or even my motorcycle boots (since you have to walk when you get off the bike). I think the problems come back when I get over confident and use shoes without them.
I was overjoyed to find these available on Amazon at the same price as a couple decades ago. Well, the structure is slightly different: almost imperceptibly thinner, and a bit longer. Like the originals, once inserted in the shoe they never slide around, and help ease the pain. Staying totally off my feet at work is not an option. And did you ever try walking all the time without letting your heel on one side touch the ground? It can't be done. So I've bought a few pairs of these for different shoes.
I did see the similar seeming pads in green with a tan fabric top for a dollar less per pair. RxSorbo Sorbothane SorboGel Heel Pad I bought a pair for comparison. Why the color difference I have no idea since you can't see the heel pad inside a shoe. The green less costly version is a very very slight amount thinner. They seem to fit a bit better in my Chuck Taylor All Stars, and maybe you won't notice the difference. Considering how the original black version worked for me, has worked for me, and continues to work, I consider it worth the added dollar per pair. Dr. Scholl's or other brands found in most stores don't stay in place in my shoes, and don't give the protection these do.
They worked for me for a couple decades, and continue to do so.

These have some good things going for them sorbothane is a cool material, and does cushion well. And the shape is symmetrical, so they can be used in either show (I wanted them as lift just for my left heel, so one pair takes care of two pairs of shoes). When they are fresh from the package, the bottom side is fairly sticky/grippy, but in a dusty shoe, has a tendency to slide around. It's probably a good idea to clean, and possibly rough up the surface they will stick to, just to try and prevent that.
