I run long distances on trails. I'm a lightweight female that needed a little cushion,
some arch support, some protection without being heavy & clunky and some room for my
swollen toes to move & breath. I have found my perfect mate!! This Shoe will tackle
the flats, dirt, mud, water, hills & rocks with ease, comfort & protection!!

I picked up a pair of Masochist IIs for myself probably 5 months ago and have racked up close to 200 miles on them hiking and trail running. Many of the trails we do are well groomed single track, but recently we've been hitting less maintained trails with loose pack and more rugged terrain. These shoes are right at home on either. Her confidence has jumped dramatically as she has become considerably more sure footed and faster through sections that she use to take slowly.
She transitioned to the Montrails from a pair of department store New Balances, which I describe as fashion athletic shoes, they look formidable but when you push them they fail. The big toe box and much more efficient lace setup, mean she's not jamming her toes or sliding around developing blisters. She runs a size 7 in Nikes and these ran true to size.
If you're looking for a trail shoe that is rugged, lite, and grips like mad, buy these!

I have really wide feet and high arches, so tennis shoes for me are difficult to find. I usually wear a 7.5 in most shoes, but when I got fitted for these at a local running store last season, they put me in an 8. This has been a great adjustment. I did not realize it, but I've been wearing tennis shoes too small all these years. This really makes a difference when hiking on a downhill slope as my toes do not hit the end of my shoes. Hint: if you don't know your size, get fitted at a local running store, then order them online and save $15 or more. This is my second pair and I just love them. I added an extra heel/arch insert just b/c I like the extra support & heel cushion because I am not a runner, but a walker and a hiker. These have performed great on paved roads, trails and dirt roads (with lots of scree) and have good traction. I hope they continue to make these because I will buy a new pair every season. The toe box is nice and wide, but the heel hugs my foot without slipping up and down. I would say that the only negative is the stupid nylon laces. They never stay tied. I double tie them and even then, they tend to come loose. Nylon shoe strings just don't stay tied tightly. If they would come up with a model like this one but with bungee cord laces, THAT would be perfect!!!
Honest reviews on Montrail Women's Mountain Masochist II Trail Running Shoe
I bought these for outdoor activities with my kids, lots of trail hikes and street walking. They are very comfortable, much better than my Nike's and New Balance. The shoe laces come untied a lot though, which can be annoying. The mesh on the outside is great for hot weather and makes these soft and bendable, but not so great when the weather is cooler. My feet freeze in these, I can feel the wind going right through them. So all in all, I'd recommend these for warm weather hiking/walking. Get something else for the cooler months. True to size, I ordered my usual 7.5 and they are perfect, they stretched out quite a bit after the first few months of wearing them. I wish they came in more than 2 colors.

I hike or trail run almost every day, so comfort is key. The toe box is sufficiently roomy for downhill running and the support at the ankle is strong. I have high arches, and the arch support great. They are perfect for the job they were designed for, and they are attractive and comfortable to wear off the trail too. I wear a 7.5 and the fit is right on with that no sizing adjustment was necessary for me. I definitely recommend this shoe.
