Honestly I can't believe there aren't any reviews on here for this shoe yet. Maybe people are waiting to put more miles in them, but I was hooked after my first run.

Let me just say these are my favorite running shoes I own or have ever tried on. New Balance, with their minimus line, keeps improving the comfort and quality of their shoes. I am a collegiate runner averaging about 50 miles a week. I go through shoes quite often and I try to mix up my shoes rather than sticking to one style whether I like it or not. When I heard about these shoes in August I couldn't wait for the release. I've never pre-ordered shoes before, but these were so intriguing I had to. Now that I've run about 50 miles, I think I'm ready to review them.

Fit: I have a relatively wide foot and sometimes need a 2E width. These shoes only come in D so I was contemplating getting a half size up. After a lot of thought, I ended up ordering my regular size 11. The fit is perfect, order the size you normally wear and feel confident.

Upper: This shoe has what they call FantomFit upper. You'll understand the name if you ever try them on. It's hard to tell it's even there. FantomFit is extremely lightweight and comfortable, and also form fit's to the foots natural curves.

Insole/Midsole: This shoe does not have an insert, or really any kind of support at all. To me, this is a good thing. Barefoot running strengthens the muscles in the foot and can help prevent injury. The New Balance Hi Rez is the closest to running barefoot, without actually running barefoot.

Outsole: The "outsole" of this shoe is really what separates it from any other shoe ever made. It is composed of 42 individual pods that send sensory information through the foot. It is the reason I love these shoes. They feel like nothing else, you really have to feel it to understand. The sensation felt underfoot is mind blowing. Runs are much more enjoyable feeling everything. Sometimes I feel like there is more feeling than actually being barefoot.

Durability: I was really scared for the durability after receiving these because of how lightweight the shoes are. So far they've held up great and show almost no signs of wear. The stitching of the shoes have held up great and I'm more than happy with them.

Overall these shoes are great and as I've said the best shoes I've ever had. I love wearing them everywhere, I'm not sure if I'll ever switch to another shoe. There are many reason to get these shoes, more than just running. I've gotten more compliments on these shoes than any other. They're stylish, lightweight, comfortable, and fun to wear. I wear them during my 8 hour shifts at work and I have a job requiring me to stand the whole time and they're comfortable the entire time. At 3.8 ounces it's hard to notice they're on.

My advice is to get these shoes if you're thinking about it, or even hesitating. Worst case scenario, return them.

UPDATE: A month and 4 days since these shoes got delivered, and they already have holes in the sole. As I suspected, the non-vibram soles just got chewed up.

If your running consists of, say, a treadmill, or a rubberised track, or reall really smooth sidewalks, these shoes might be just fine. Anything rougher than that and they WILL get destroyed. I run on fairly rough asphalt and some of the sole pads are COMPLETELY gone already, and as I mentioned the sole has SEVERAL holes in it.

I'm not a heavy runner. I've probably used these guys 25 times since I got them, and ran a total of 60 miles.

Back to the MT00 for me...

--original review ---

Background: I've been using the MT00 as my summer shoe for a while now, and the MT20v2 as my "winter" shoe. I'm comparing this guy to the MT00 unless otherwise noted.

This shoe feels, if anything, even MORE minimalist than the MT00. I'm hoping that does NOT mean that it will not last time will tell.

Unlike the MT00, this is NOT a trail shoe. I figured I don't run on trails THAT often. When I did, though, it seemed like it could become uncomfortable fairly fast. I could feel a lot more of the ground than before.

I need a little bit of padding when I run. Not all minimalist shoes provide this. This one seems OK so far for shorter distances. I don't think I could go a lot longer than 5 kilometers in them. without it becoming painful. If you are the kind of person who needs any padding at all, be aware of this.

Unlike many (most?) other minimalist shoes, these do NOT have vibram soles. Actually I don't know if it's just trail-running shoes that have them, but these guys certainly do not. At this point I don't know if that indicates they'll be better or worse.

These shoes definitely look even weirder than most minimalist shoes!

These are my first barefoot shoes and I love everything about them. Everything except the fact that some of the grip pads that are glued on to the hex pads on the soles are coming off after less than two weeks.
