As an under-pronator with high arches, I had high expectations for this shoe. I read the reviews and ignored some early reviews saying that the shoe felt firmer than prior models. That was a mistake.

The shoe is way too stable and not flexible enough. I feel they made the shoe more stable to market to "slight overpronators", which is a bigger market than the true cushioned shoe market for under-pronators. I'm disappointed in this shoe and feel it should be classified as "structured cushioning" by Asics instead of being placed in their cushioning category. Hopefully they will realize their mistake and make it more flexible in later versions.

I'll revisit this review later if the shoe breaks in better over time. For now, I'm not sure if this is the shoe for under-pronators. Asics makes great shoes. I love their Hyperspeed, Speedstars and Piranhas. Less cushioning, but at least they are flexible for my high arches. I bought the Cumulus for long runs but didn't expect this amount of rigidigity. It's a really firm shoe.

The outer dimensions on this shoe have changed and gotten smaller. I've run with these for many years. Will switch to a competitor brand. I'm very disappointed that ASIC chose to do this.

If you are used to the previous models of this shoe, bring a tape measure along to check the dimensions for yourself.

I loved the Cumulus 13 and the Kayano 17 models. Absolutely loved them. Super cushiony and nice wide toe box. So, everything the other reviewers are saying is true--Asics took the shoe from pillowy and cushioned to rigid and firm. The toe box is noticeably narrower. I'm stuck with mine since I wore them for a full day, but don't waste your money on these if, like me, you really enjoyed the cushioned, cloudy feel of the cumulus 13.

Honest reviews on ASICS Men's GEL-Cumulus 14 Running Shoe

I know that shoe fit is a pretty individual thing, so here is my experience. I am a male 150 lbs / 6'. I run about 30 miles per week year-round (gotta love the weather in San Diego). I am currently training for my fifth full marathon. I finished my last full at 3:38. I have bought many running shoes, but I think the Cumulus has got the perfect amount of cushion for long distance running. The Nimbus just feels too "gummy" and not springy enough. I definitely want some of that elastic conservation of energy so I don't feel like I am spending a lot of energy in every step. The Nimbus is very good on your joints though, but I don't have a problem with that. I do start to feel some knee impact in ASCIS shoes with less gel than the Cumulus. Also, even though "they" say you're supposed to have more springy shoes for the race day, I like my cartilage tissue too much so I have always run my marathons with the Cumulus. One very important thing though: I normally wear shoes size 10-10.5. For running long distances, I buy these at 11.5 otherwise, I have injured my toes before. I hope this helps.

As a gal with very wide feet who works as a nurse, the men's Asics Cumulus 12 has been my work shoe for the past 2 years. I love these shoes, especially at the end of the day when my feet swell a bit. I find men's Cumulus 14 to also be a great shoe, although be aware that they do run more narrow in the forefoot compared to the Cumulus 12. I wore a 7.5 EE in the men's Cumulus 12 but had to move up to a 7.5 4E in the Cumulus 14. Luckily I ordered both widths when a web review noted the more narrow design and will be sending the 2E's back free of charge.
