OK...with the disclaimer that on some hikes you REALLY should have covered toes...if you are a 'free-toe' lover like me...and like to hike...these are the sandals for you. I've had mine almost 4 months and I've hiked mountain trails to jagged seaside rocks. Wet or dry the grip is excellent and the sandals never slide around. No significant wear yet and they dry clean with no guck growing on them. The individual toe straps are fantastic at keeping the sandal tight to your foot...however...and this is probably my only prob...those individual straps also mean you can't put the shoes on in a hurry. You gotta make sure each toe goes into the right slot. Sure it only takes about 10-20secs...but these are NOT slip on sandals. Like a shoe you have to sit down and strap'em on. But believe me...with confidence you'll get from the solid grip on both your foot AND the ground more than makes up for it. And finally...they look cool. ;-)
