Great shoes... just right. A lot of trail shoes are too bulky and there is a trend toward minimalist trail shoes (which is great for some) so these fall in the middle. There are lots of good trail shoes out there but what makes these special is the eride sole which is just a slight rocker shape. The whole rocker sole got kind of a bad rap due to "tone your butt" claims from some manufacturers which is too bad. Many of the top trail racers are using rocker soles (Scott, Hoka), as well as marathon (yes... Skechers), and triathlon (Scott). In my opinion this shape is more efficient for runners who are not natural midfoot strikers and is noticibly smoother and faster while reducing impact on the downhills. They are fairly light, I measured 9.88 oz vs 11.67 oz for the Scott Grip II (which they replace). The toe box is nice and roomy and the fit feels true to size. Great cushioning, not too soft or firm. Have not ran in conditions where grip is an issue but the outsole tread looks like it would provide good traction. The inside is pretty much seamless to minimize any hot spots. I guess the only complaint I have for these is the color, totally obnoxious. I can tolerate this for running but once their running life is done it's straight to the "to charity" box for them.
