I'm an avid trail runner who runs trails weekly and has completed many trail events from 5K to 50 miles. For reference, I'm a light weight (5'8", 140 lbs) and biomechanically efficient (don't need a lot of structure/support features). I liked the TR3 version of this shoe, but of course the shoe companies can't leave a good shoe alone for more than a year. Initially I didn't like the looks of the tread on the TR5 as much as the TR3 (see my earlier review on those) because it's not quite as aggressive. It does have slightly less traction on damp/wet surfaces than the TR3, but overall it is still a good shoe for groomed trails. I run mostly single-track trails and I'm happy with this shoe unless its particularly slick, muddy or snowy. This shoe is not as good in those conditions as other more aggressively treaded trail shoes (like Adidas Kanadia). I recently ran 45 miles across the Grand Canyon and back and these shoes were an excellent choice as those are predominantly dry, well-used trails. I find if I wear too aggressively treaded trail shoes on smooth, well-used trails like the Grand Canyon's, I end up catching the aggressive lugs more and have a few more scrapes and stumbles, especially towards the end of a long day. I also like the roomy toe-box because I don't get banged up toes/toenails. I generally wear a size 9 street shoe, but have moved all the way up to 10.5 for these shoes to protect my toes a bit better. I have literally hundreds and hundreds of trail miles on these shoes and they have held up very well.

Bottom line: These are great shoes for relatively smooth trails or trail runs that have some road sections.

Anyone in the market for new running or walking shoes look not further than Saucony. If they made golf shoes I may switch from Ecco. I have a rather wide foot(no Sasquatch) but the Uniform brand shoes(you know, the name on college & Pro sports team)are ALL two narrow, unless I order or travel to a speciality running shoe shop and pay top dollar. Saucony, out of the box makes a wider than normal and 10 of 10 comfort shoe. The TR5 running shoe, has superb stablility, an agressive tread for hard trail, track and running the steps. When I'm finished running, my feet are tired, but no stress.

Saucony IS the rough diomand, over looked by slick marketing from Evil big shoe. I still have my other Saucony's and there still comfortable even though the tread had darn near been warn off.......

Try them, you won't be disappointed

These are my second pair of the same shoe. The hug my feet nicely. I don't like when my toes swim at the end of a shoe. The arch support is nice and the soles are comfortable. I used them as hanging out shoes shopping, walking downtown, light workouts, etc. These shoes run 1/2 size small. The colors are nice and neutral. So far the quality has been great.
